The '25 Rolls Aero Coupe is a misnomer; the car was originally built as a convertible; it was completely rebodied by a coachbuilder in Belgium in 1934. So while it's bones are Rolls, it's really a customized car. It strikes me because if it WERE built by Rolls in '25, it would be well ahead of its time... and Rolls has NEVER been known to be a styling leader. As it is, (and it is striking, tho I hate the round Hobbit door), it's someone else's vision of a design that Rolls had nothing to do with, and it's 'merely' contemporary rather than leading edge. By rights, it should be called a '34. Always grooved on the Phantom Corsair. Thanks for the pics, dfelt- here's one more I think is worthy (the '69 prototype) :

I don't know for sure, but I would believe they could be used legally. They are not conceptually or operationally different that a regular trailer, just without the deck. And if a tow dolly is legal without brakes, why would these be different?

November 2013: Subaru of America, Inc.
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in 2013 Sales Archive
2013 MSRP: Equinox 2LT FWD : 27,740... 2LT AWD : 28,620. Difference : $880 - not a huge amount. Did a location inventory search to my zip : of 25 Equinox's, 10 were AWD, 15 were FWD. I don't see the above ATP numbers moving much. -

Legacy Average Transaction Price : 23,3xx Equinox ATP : 24,8xx Outback ATP : 26,5xx I don't see where one here is "CHEAP!!" and another is "NOT CHEAP!!". Regal is a higher price class than Chevy / Subaru - doesn't apply here. -

Massachusetts proposes taxing by miles driven
balthazar replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
They are not 'perhaps' high, they are indisputably high. Even cutting them in half would raise -for example- my fuel taxes around 700%. While I can see the point of mileage-based rather than gallon based, we have to come up with realistic, non-penalizing rates instead of hammering the populous at large. Big Gov't doesn't need another new, fat revenue stream to plunder & piss away. I realize (hope!!) you are primarily suggesting a tiered system, but to even put those numbers in there... you're just going to frighten off any support you might hope to garner. -
Massachusetts proposes taxing by miles driven
balthazar replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
whatwhatWHAT?? I pay about $110/yr in state & Fed fuel tax, I need that to jump to $1500 like I need a 4-ton meteorite to smash my truck flat. And Jersey spends more/mile in road maintenance than any other state IIRC- you would only find zero support for something like that here! Those amounts are insanely higher than even the highest state fuel tax. If I lived in Wash State, I'd pay around $310. You are just begging for abuse & corruption with that level of a revenue gusher. -
Mini is just tired; I wouldn't be surprised if sales were entering a prolonged slump. Only so long you can stretch the same song out. Anyone know if BMW intends to break out 3- and 4- sales? Should just kill off the 1-series & the Z4 and plug the funds back into the 3/4/5 cars and try to get them back up to the driver's cars they supposedly used to be.

I dunno about that. BTW- the above book sold on eBay (for $12.51), so it's no longer available. -

balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Ram
The focus for some may be that 'we're told' it doesn't cost any more money to make something aesthetically pleasing. Others likely take issue with increasing acreage of black plastics, again which 'we're told' is 'utter cheapness'...- 20 replies

Because its much cheaper than sheet metal? The entire nose of the van is plastic, unpainted, black, cobbled up plastic. Seriously, what's the logic? All these white refrigerator boxes, all intently cheaply made/looking.- 20 replies

No idea if this is a ridiculous attempt at a scam, as the pics are a good few years old, but : http://newhaven.craigslist.org/ctd/4220797840.html

Cadillac News: Rumorpile: Cadillac ATS Coupe To Debut At Detroit
balthazar replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
I am also in the camp that really appreciates the individuality & exclusivity of the CTS coupe. It's not meant to be a safe, fuzzy-warm, generic 2-dr : this is the Cadillac of yore that lead styling movements. Want something tame & predictable- go get a mercedes E 2-dr. Reg put it perfectly; jet black CTS-V coupe is about as dynamic & menacing as it gets this side of some sports/super cars. -
They look like they weigh 12,000 lbs tho. 230" is only 13" longer than my Buick, but that's a coupe. Good size neighborhood

One of those new, monstrous, hulking, bloated Rolls sedans. Actually, I like the look of 'em. Went by a backyard carport thingie where I believe I had earlier spotted a '56 Roadmaster (well; there was a Florentine Curve there...), but the homeowner had put sections of wooden-slat fencing up to obscure. Looked like a Fiero GT was peeking out from the other bay tho.

Lucra Cars the next industry Amercian Muscle Car Builder
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Industry News
I'll drive anything, but there are very very few vehicles in the 'super car' genre that I aspire to own. Agreed with the sentiment 'yes on a new American auto enterprise'. -

Maybe the enthusiast populous is now willing to 'get sloppy' with "muscle car", just like a small quantity has with "coupe". -

The only luxury brand currently with any originality in the styling department is Cadillac. The rest either regurgitate their own old cues or crib bits from everyone else. -
'69 Mustang Mach 1, grey w/ black stripes, very nice, 100% factory down to Wide Oval tires, on 'cars for films' flatbed.

That's pretty much EXACTLY how Daimler "fixed" the 'broken' Freightliner Sprinter's grille.
