One time I was traveling MD > NJ on 95, when a Porsche 911 passed me and I noted a radar detector clipped to the visor. Right behind him was a Corvette and 1 other (capable) car. Clearly they were dodging the beams, and I fell in behind them. I was in a Super (Slant) Six Plymouth. No doubt it was a Sunday drive for them, for me the Plymouth was at 95% as we did 90-95 for a long while. The Plymouth was a super clean, bare-bones sedan with cop caps & big blackwalls; looked every bit the Gov't car.... and not being far from DC- they must've been wondering what was up. We passed everything for an hour +. Plymouth did pretty well for itself.

I've got a couple of reel mowers- I did restore a Clemson once- nice yellow jobber prolly from the '50s. Have another that's a real old timer- has steel wheels. Nothing with an engine that's vintage tho.

I've got one of these 1941's in black: ....ohh... cells. An LG flip of unknown model... wait- it's an Accolade. Nuttin fancy and that's how I like it. Makes & takes calls, does infrequent texting, has a calculator & alarm clock. Has other stuff I don't use & don't care about (I don't find staring at electronic devices productive, and I do more than enough of that here). Battery charge lasts me a full week. Done. I hope to hell come replacement time I'm not forced into a "smart" phone due to flips being priced out the wazoo to hasten their demise, 'cause you KNOW that's what's being engineered...

Well, if my addicted friend isn't interested, maybe we can work out a deal around Hershey in Oct, Camino. I may be transporting a front-loader rear from the P-60 there as it is...

Bought this for $15 from my wife's aunt. Her son used to drag race a '60s El Camino at the local strip. Having done numerous upgrades, motor swaps & other sundries in the backyard garage in the '70-80s, undoubtedly this vice came in handy. As the son hasn't lived in his mom's house for a few decades and no longer wrenches on cars, I thought I'd rescue it. Columbian 604-M2 machinist's vise. Disassembled, de-greased/de-rusted, stripped 5 coats of paint off (red, silver, blue, orange, black), deburred, painted 2 coats of Rustoleum (could maybe use another, but it's a vise), greased & reassembled. Works real nice, pretty heavy construction. Luckily for a guy trying to pare down his 'stuff' collection, I know a guy who collects vises & anvils- will have to see if he in interested at around $75, or will trade me straight up for one of his countless anvils. Hey Ocn- yer cute contractors show up? I ask as a matter of professional curiosity, as the contractor biz is notorious for people not showing up. I should know, I grab a chunk of work from those slackers.

Supposed to break tomm- next week highs are supposed to be below 90 all week. We'll see- weather.com tends to undershoot the highs by 2-5 degrees, tho.

Just a quick detail in Dwight's excellent overview: those early SOHC and DOHC engines were all inline designs, IE: one head. You obviously must feel the same way about the BMW inline 6. The entire world industry has abandoned the inline 6 in favor of a V6 decades ago. Therefore, by your logic, BMW is overdue to declare bankruptcy.

As dwight posted above, the LS3 is 183 kg, or 403 lbs, so it IS lighter than the 5.5 mercedees. And it makes 11 more hp, so it IS more powerful. So it's NOT a "flawed argument". More to the point, why doesn't the merse engine make way MORE power than the LS3??

OK, so an 800hp, 200-mph, 4 MPG plastic car with sticker headlights gains FI, and NOW I can relate??

B-but "no one" buys the genesis or LS, BMW sells 98.7 millions cars and are the bestest... and they are at 70-71 db with the mid-sized 5-series. Clearly, the sales charts show that buyers in this segment (that is: lexus, BMW, merse) like a bit more noise in their cabins... BTW: C&D CTS 3.6 sedan: 68 at '70 cruise'. 745 is only 65 at 70 cruise- why isn't it at 60 for the price it is... or better yet: 47 ??

C&D test of the '11 BMW 528 returned 71 db at "true 70", 68 at '70 cruise' w/ DOHC. "60" is a lofty goal- automakers are only going to achieve that with more & more sound deadening (= more weight).

6 years in the saab design timeline equates to about 6 hours for most everyone else.

I have to scrape/ paint/ glaze a double window that's right over a groundhog burrow, and I'm not liking the idea much. I ran the hose in it some today, but the water opened another burrow below the current one... and the A/C condenser is perched right at the hole. How deep do these things dig? I have to get them out of there somehow...

I too like room to move around in a car: change position, shift my legs around, turn & reach into the back seat, whatever. when you're encapsulated in an overstuffed car, all that is restricted.

I agree, but it points to the real world weight of having models in each & every segment in order to 'compete', when in so many instances --mercedees, BMW, audi (to a lesser extent), for EX-- your statement is the exact scenario. I personally like having unique, niche models, breaks up the monotony, but many believe every model has to be a volume tour de force.

Look no further than the supplementing of 'cubic feet' for actual interior measurements one can gauge vs. themselves and other cars for an EX of this. Oh- they still have most of the interior measurements, but the hip room statistic is defunct since everything has a console now and that number is going to look ridiculous if they publish it. But they need things to look as if they're progressing...

There are numerous subjectives involved in judging a given car's suitability to a person; it's seldom back & white. No one 'needs' a car that can exceed even 100 MPH, yet scores buy cars capable of half that again. Preference.
