  1. It might be worthwhile to look into a GM Protection Plan. Given what you've gone through in the past, you might enjoy the piece of mind of just driving it to hte dealer and saying "Fix it, please."
  2. Screw the Concorde I posted. I think you can get this 300M for $1000, possibly less.
  3. YJ, you sound like me when I drove a Dodge Colt. It's a shame this truck has been so bad to you when your old S10 served you pretty well. The good thing is, every complaint you mentioned can be fixed. Every inch of an S series pickup can be modified/improved either through OEM parts or the aftermarket. If you're game, get another daily driver on the cheap, decomission the Sonoma, tear it down, and build it up the way you want it.
  4. Well, it's more of a hike, and not a 300M, but this might be up your alley nonetheless.
  5. '93 Geo Metro?
  6. It might be the lower control arm bushings. There's a TSB for it. Mine had that issue and I got them fixed under warranty. As for the interior squeak, that might be the rear seat. As a test, go in the trunk and pull the levers that releases the seat backs and allows them to fold down. Drive the car around like this and see if the squeak goes away. If it does, that's another TSB, though if you're interested it's a fix you can probably do yourself, and I can dig up the article on how to fix it.
  7. Never, because the G8 sucks. Pontiac sucks. They should just kill it. All they sell are rebadged Chevies and Toyotas. EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!! There, did I sum up every response of every detractor? Now, in all seriousness, given no marketing and the state of the economy, the G8 isn't doing that badly. I'd be willing to wager that in a better economic climate the G8 would meet sales projections. I'm looking forward to the 2010 V6 model, which upgrades to the 3.6L DI. That should be a very interesting car.
  8. Without knowing any details on the car's condition, I would say that the salvage value of a '99 300M should be your absolute ceiling, ie what you offer him should be less. Doing some rough calculations using your ZIP code, I've estimated the salvage value to be roughly $3300. I'd keep $3000 in my head and work down from there. Since he's pulling out some parts for himself, that gives you leeway in negotiations as you're not getting a whole car. What is he planning on pulling? Once he's done stripping it, will it have the ALL the parts, mechanical and cosmetic, that you'd want to put in the Intrepid? If you have that info, that would help in shaping your offer.

    PC vs MAC

    A drag race between a 1987 Macintosh and a 2007 Toshiba: clicky
  10. Welcome to the family.
  11. or a Toyota, or a Nissan, or a Hyundai....
  12. Is anyone going to bother taking into account that the car market shrunk by 4 million in the last year? Most everything is down, so to condemn the G8 for not hitting its sales projections (which were set before the Great Recession) isn't entirely fair. Lots of cars aren't hitting sales projections, and not just at GM. The fact that the car is doing better than two small FWD cars the likes of which Pontiac will likely be stuck with in the near future, does mean something whether you like it or not.
  13. That's a Mongoose, isn't it? I recognize the frame. I fixed one up for my friend after he found it with a toasted bottom bracket. Look on Craigslist for a great starter road bike. I'd do that over buying one of the newer Made-in-China entry level bikes. Even a steel 10 speed from the 80s will fare better on the road than a mountain bike. If you try to take that Mogoose more than 5 miles on the road, the low gearing will burn your thighs out.
  14. Upgrade to FE5 (SS) struts all around for a 1" drop - I might actually do this if I can on the cheap GM lip kit body side molding removal possibly the GMPP intake/exhaust if it doesn't make the car sound ricey
  15. Good point. The Jetta's previous owner had better have been meticulous with maintenance for you to even consider it.
  16. Well, as someone who owns a vehicle very much like Car A, I think you know which way I vote. I have almost 35K on mine and have nothing major to report. I'll be doing brakes all around within the next couple of months, and I'll change both front struts since the R/F one started leaking after the accident. Is this the red one your grandma had? The auto isn't that bad in it - most of the time it is where it needs to be. There is a HUGE aftermarket for the Cobalt. You can make the car whatever you want.
  17. It's funny you say that, because I can see the Grim Reaper driving a blacked out GXP as his personal vehicle.
  18. We've lost our can-do innovative spirit. It's been replaced by a self-loathing, "can't someone else do it" attitude. We've destroyed everything we've built, pissed on the rubble, then built a Wal-Mart on top of it. I wouldn't mind joining you on that flight if things get much worse.
  19. Yep, it's like the SD455 Trans Am of the mid 70s all over again. GM would be really stupid not to give the car a reprieve.
  20. I don't see why Pontiac and Buick can't BOTH have one. Consider this recipe Alpha coupe: Sold as Holden in AU Sold as Pontiac in US Sold as Buick in CN Sold as Opel in EU Alpha Sedan: Sold as Buick in US and CN Sold as Holden in AU Sold as Opel in EU Sold as Chevy elsewhere note: I'm leaving out the "guaranteed" Chevy and Caddy Alphas
  21. What a well thought out, fact based article If you can't get the engine specs correct on the car you're reviewing, maybe you're in the wrong line of work. The GXP has 260 hp. And, coming from an Ecotec owner, their assessment of the Ecotec's NVH issues are unnecessarily harsh. Listen to a Corolla at idle or an Accent under hard acceleration, then get back to me.
  22. I believe this was the sexy beast I could've had for $2500.
  23. I believe the seller just needs to sign the title and hand it over. Not a big deal at all. Not sure if it's different because it's an out-of-state purchase. I'm assuming he signs the title over, you buy the car, and then have to jump through some hoops with the PADMV to get it retitled/registered in PA.
  24. That's a gorgeous bike. Lots of luck with it. My sister still loves her Ladies Maverick, though right now it's hooked up to a trainer. I've actualy been having bike envy the past week. I walked into a high-end bike shop over the weekend and saw a 2008 Cervelo something-or-other that could have been mine for $2500 (down from $3500). I came pretty close to caving, but didn't pull the trigger.
  25. But I thought Zeta was a fat heavy pig, a CAFE liability, and didn't deserve to live. Am I missing something? Great news. I don't know what this car has to do to please some of the doubters around here. Maybe a special catalytic converter that allows the Camaro to emit pheromones from its exhaust.
