  1. The bolded part is exactly why I'm voting Cobalt. I don't want to be lumped into that crowd. I too anxiously await the backstory.
  2. Where will GM stick Buick under this scenario? Buick dealers can't stand alone if their Pontiac and GMC offerings are taken from them. What will they say to the customers who are looking for a truck/SUV/smaller car and yet have been conditioned for the last century that Chevy is the bottom rung of the GM herarchy and do not want to be associated with "bottom rung". There's a lot of people out there who think like that, so it makes sense not to ignore them. In order not to lose them, GM would have to do one of the following: 1) Move Buick in with Chevy or Caddy: Since both are full line brands, Buick isn't needed in either showroom. 2) Blow Buick out into a full line brand: Buick SUVs and minivans didn't go over well a couple of years ago, and they won't again. Also, if GM's going to expand Buick's lineup to compensate for the loss of Pontiac and GMC, why bother closing Pontiac and GMC. All of that just to say: BPG either needs to live as one or die as one. Killing part of it only assures the death of the remaining part.
  3. Kill one of BPG, and you have to dilute one or both of the remaining brands to keep the channel operating as a full-line brand - If you kill Pontiac, then Buick has to sell small affordable performance/economy cars that dilute its quest to be "premium" - Kill Buick, and Pontiac has to start selling larger cars/crossovers that don't lend themselves well to the "affordable performance" mantra - Kill GMC, and Pontiac and/or Buick will have to sell fullsized and midsized trucks and SUVs, and I don't need to mention that that'll go over like a fart in a spacesuit.
  4. The actual brand splitup between the two companies is at this point conjecture from Autoblog and therefore not complete. Obviously Chevy and Caddy are the "profitable" brands while Saturn, Saab, and Hummer are the "unprofitable" brands. All of BPG is in the air. I can't imagine them breaking it up since ihe brands are fairly consolidated. Either all of it will end up in "profitable" GM or all of it will end up in "unprofitable" GM. This is gonna hurt no matter what.
  5. Clicky. Use the music player on the left side for a preview. Sammy Hagar + Michael Anthony + Chad Smith + Joe Satriani = pretty darn good.
  6. Sorry DF. I know exactly how you feel. I just put my dog down a couple of weeks ago. I know it sucks not having her around anymore, but take heart in the fact that you gave her a good home while she was with you.
  7. Wow, could you sound any more ecstatic about owning it?
  8. I like it - actually better than the Equinox, which I've always felt looked too generic Japanese/Korean for my tastes. The grille is huge, but no worse than a Pilot, CRV, MDX, or any Ford truck these days.
  9. Yeah, really. Just paint that...thing Mary Kay pink and load the console with Hanna Montana CDs.
  10. So you've decided to finally give the ol' Win98 machine the boot. Based on my experiences with two HP laptops, the hardware is virtually indestructible and runs pretty fast. However, you'll probably need to do some tweaking when you get it. By tweaking I mean uninstalling a plethora of extra crap that HP loads onto the system from the factory. Samsung LCDs are great. Great picture quality at a pretty affordable price. Do you want/need a fax? If not, you can probably drop down to HP's PSC line of printers, which are much more affordable yet still give good quality. Canon inkjets are pretty good though their mechanicals don't seem to be as hearty as HP's. My main beef with Epsons over the years is the print cartridge design. If you don't use the printer for a while, the print heads get clogged up with dried in, and not only do you have to put in a new cartridge, you have to waste that cartridge doing several cleaning cycles. Thanks. I know there are numerous tech-savvy people here.
  11. Everything you wanted to know about transplanting mature trees but were afraid to ask
  12. Don't beat around the bush, Satty. Tell us how you really feel. What about a certified pre-owned base G6? You can probably get one for the money you'd spend on a new G3 or G5, and have a much bigger car that gets nearly the same fuel economy.
  13. The VQ is probably my favorite Japanese engine. Smooth, yet with a nice sound to it (except in the Infiniti G and the Z car). Other Asian makes have made it a point to mute the engine's sound.
  14. I've never seen an afremarket unit that looked like it belonged in the car it was installed in. It's the single reason why I stick with stock head units. DF, if fixing it yourself fails you may want to check out M&R Electronics. Free repair estimate, no charge if you don't do it. I bought a Delco CD player for my S10 blazer from them a few years ago. It went on the fritz and even brand new CDs would be unplayable. They warrantied it no prob.
  15. I don't know about that. It might be a little underpowered for a lawn tractor.
  16. Happy birthday, o'blu. Enjoy your special day.
  17. You're both right. But the Commodore is supposed to move to the North American Zeta in '13. Given that the livelihood of the Elizabeth plant is tied to export volume, there's noo incentive for GM not to make a G8.
  18. Rermember that guy who did the GTO/VY Ute conversion on eBay a couple of years ago? How much did that thing go for? I don't think it was anything out of reach.
  19. Well, they could have done a bit better in their consolidation efforts. There is no need for two, possibly three midsized FWD sedans (if the Regal does in fact come here) in the same showroom. Same goes for the need for two Deltas (G5 and Skylark/Excelle) and the two Lambdas.

  21. Good luck. And don't bother trying to smuggle the blueprints for Epsilon II over to your new job. Something tells me BMW won't be interested.
  22. There's a TSB on it, so I'd assume a defect in the rubber used. There should be two litte bumpers on the radiator support near each fender. Turn them counterclockwise one turn at a time to raise them up.
