Matsushita unveils 150-inch plasma TV
Welcome to the latest edition of "My ____ is Bigger Than Your ____". There's just no need for a TV that big. And you just know some idiot is going to buy one, stuff it into his 12'x15' living room, and burn out his retinas in five years from sitting well within the proper viewing boundary.

Hello.
Dang, he found us. Drew, it's time for us to move the site again.

A silk purse from a sow's ear
Has Oldsmobile's death taught nothing? Offing any ONE of GM's North American brands is a recipe for disaster for this market. If one brand were to be killed the public will not perceive the event as anything but another example of GM's continued decline, all the more reason to stay away from the company. And of course there's the whole financial burden associated with the actual closing. But then again, GMNA doesn't matter anymore, does it?

A silk purse from a sow's ear
Anyone who believes that is off their rocker, plain and simple. Wagoner included. I don't GM can afford to deal with the consequences of upsetting its home market.

Grand Prix Phase Out
For 50 grand I'd order a G8 then take a vacation to Australia to watch it be built. The W-body GP is an OK car on its own merits, but considering what it replaced, and what will be replacing it, its death isn't exactly a sad occasion for many. That's about as nice as I can say it.

Oil Hits 100$/Barrel
If you're predicting falling prices and the eventual demise of big oil, I'll hire the DJ and the caterers. Someone else bring champagne and party favors.

Testing your Resolve
True enough. I should have said that I resolve to put more effort into the chase.

Here's a positive idea
I would definitely go for an E-85 kit for the Cobalt. Especially considering that I work for a place that will in the near future install an E-85 pump at the on-site gas station.

I'm so angry that I can't see straight
Solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal energy could easily replace petroleum as the energy sources that "make" ethanol, hydrogen fuel cells, etc. For example, the hydroelectric energy generated by the Hoover Dam provides electricity for a good portion of the state of Arizona. The big question is: Will big oil allow such a thing to happen?

I'm so angry that I can't see straight
More of us vote for American Idol than for the Presidential elections. That's just sad. Still, it's not like any of the candidates are ever worth throwing your support behind. I am convinced that sometime before I die, I will see the downfall of the current self-serving government. The former middle class will get tired of getting stepped on, and, with the help of outside inflences, obliterate Washington.

UTT OHH, Zeta Platform in question
You're close, BV. Think of a word that rhymes with tick, then you'll know the word that describes this wizard to which PCS refers.

The time is fast approaching. I hope you still have your popcorn ready. I personally prefer Jujyfruits or Dots to popcorn. It will be a great read. As the old saying goes: TICK-TOCK :AH-HA_wink:

UTT OHH, Zeta Platform in question
This is an old article and we've already moaned and groaned over it. Still, I don't doubt it's the case. I have some interesting thoughs on this subject, and you'll probably get to read them by the time the weekend's out. Oh, and

Are you ready for a stark new future?
Prohibition didn't stop alcohol consumption. Cigarette taxes did not stop people from smoking. The new CAFE regs won't stop people from driving what they want. All these things seem different, but they do prove that Americans will adjust however they have to in order to continue to live the way they want. Smokers are more than willing to pay the extra dough for a carton of cigarettes. Why? Because they want to smoke. People who wanted a drink after dinner had no problem shuffling down to the local pet store/speakeasy and risking getting in trouble with the law. So if an American feels that a large car, truck, or SUV is the vehicle that fits his needs best, the past shows us he'll continue to drive one and accept the consequences, financial or otherwise. Whether than means holding on to an older, less efficient car, or paying through the nose for a new one is immaterial. The point is that the CAFE regs will have no effect on the environment and will only serve to line the pockets of those who suggested them in the first place. The big push should be to get us off of oil and onto cleaner, more efficient, and renewable energy sources, as that will have a positive effect on the environment.

So, I'm Quasi-Screwed...
Of those cars, I cast my vote for the Regal followed by the '04 Century. Don't be afraid of the 3100. I think the only major thing to look out for is the intake manifold gaskets issue, which may or may not be fixed in the 3100 and 3800 of the model years you're looking at. Any of these cars will last you quite a long time with just periodic maintenance. So, is the fat lady singing for your Century? EDIT: I'd also see what I could do about that white '07 LaCrosse CXL for $14,995. It's what you want clearly, and not a terrible jump in price from the cars you're looking at. Maybe you can haggle a little.

Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
all of which will bring in zilch in terms of profits.

Are you ready for a stark new future?
Agreed 100% Drew. Ethanol is probably the best way to keep the V8 alive in its currrent form. We were able to design engines with that kind of compression in the 1960s, so it shouldn't be a big deal to do it today.
