  1. I wondered what those numbers meant, but I have no idea (I just did a cut/paste). If you go to the website and pull up the Impala those are the possible engine choices that showed. You can compare other cars, previous model years, etc. I found it interesting that the flexfuel E85 capable motor got slightly better mileage when running on gasoline than the gas-only motor.
  2. I'll be curious how the pricing comes out. I looked at an RDX at the Acura dealer tonight...$34K for the "base" model and $39K with the "tech" package. Seemed a little steep to me... But, the expensive one already had a sold sign on it.
  3. The EPA fuel economy website (www.fueleconomy.gov) showed multiple listings for the 2007 Impala. 2007 Chevrolet Impala 6 cyl, 3.5 L, Auto(4), 400-425, Gasoline or E85 Gas 21 31 E85 16 23 6 cyl, 3.5 L, Auto(4), Regular 20 29 6 cyl, 3.9 L, Auto(4), Regular 20 29 8 cyl, 5.3 L, Auto(4), Premium 18 27

  5. Changing a Winning Ad Slogan for No Good Reason Some Marketers Learn Nothing From Others' Past Mistakes By Al Ries Published: August 06, 2006 Back in 1974, BMW sold 15,007 automobiles in the American market, which made the brand the 11th largest-selling European vehicle. Here are U.S. sales of the top ten that year: 1. Volkswagen 334,515 2. Capri 75,260 3. Fiat 72,029 4. Opel 59,279 5. Volvo 53,043 6. Audi 50,432 7. Mercedes-Benz 38,170 8. MG 25,015 9. Porsche 21,022 10. Triumph 18,396 The following year, BMW's new agency, Ammirati Puris AvRutick, launched an advertising campaign that would make both the agency and the brand famous: "The ultimate driving machine." 31 years It's been 31 years since the launch of the ultimate driving machine. So how is BMW doing? Not bad. Last year BMW was the largest-selling European brand in the American market. Here are U.S. sales of the top ten. 1. BMW 266,200 2. Mercedes-Benz 224,269 3. Volkswagen 224,195 4. Volvo 123,587 5. Audi 83,066 6. Land Rover 46,175 7. Mini 40,820 8. Porsche 31,933 9. Jaguar 30,424 10. Bentley 3,654 Owning a word One of the most important conceptual ideas in marketing is "owning a word in the mind." In almost every market, in almost every category, the leading brands are brands that can be identified by a single word or concept. BMW owns "driving." Mercedes-Benz owns "prestige." Volvo owns "safety." Three of the top four European automobile brands own a word in the mind, but what about the No. 3 brand, Volkswagen? Volkwagen is a fading star. Among today's European market leaders, it's the only brand that has actually lost sales in the U.S. market in the past two decades. Ironically, it's a brand that got to be the leader by owning a powerful concept in the mind. "Small, ugly, reliable." After its remarkable marketing victory, what do you suppose BMW is going to do next? It's the Curse of the New Generation. With a new executive vice president of operations at BMW of North America and a new advertising agency, the brand is about ready to launch a new advertising slogan, according to an article in the July 10 issue of Automotive News. The new slogan: "A Company of Ideas." Article continued Full URL: http://adage.com/article?article_id=110963
  6. Agreed, the 'Cuda was a better looking car. I loved the TV show Nash Bridges just for the car!
  7. I'd see it as more of a clone of the Challenger they did on Overhaulin' in season 2.
  8. Hey, that site shows the new "cargo management system" with an optional ladder rack that's finally compatible with a tonneau cover! Very cool!
  9. The Sierra looks good! And they even "fixed" the front bumper to be more like the original style. Can't wait to see one in person! Now lets see the back...
  10. Oooh, a 20th Anniversary T/A Indy pace car I've always liked those '89 Turbo T/As...the Grand National's motor finally found a chassis with that car. Actual festival car makes it that much more interesting!
  11. Well, if we're getting technical about it, the color is ACTUALLY Pewter Metallic (color code 11), not Light Pewter Metallic. Per the window sticker, my colors are Fire Red (74)/Pewter Metallic (11) with Graphite interior trim...
  12. Already a thread on this. here http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=10464
  13. I happen to like my "boring" silver birch two-tone.
  14. After looking at the x-cab picture again...there does not appear to be a latch for the window in the rear half-door (like in the current trucks)...so I am guessing that the windows in the back doors must go down. That could be a window switch on the armrest of the back door... I wonder if that is standard or optional? Optional I am guessing...
  15. Very nice! Are you buying the 4 speed trans from him too?
  16. The Chevy's styling looks better on the Extended cab than it did in the crew cab spy shots. I like that they stole the door design from Nissan for the X-cab, however the seatbelt mount on the x-cab is a major step backward from the GMT800. 4-speed auto for the first model year...I'll wait for the 6speed in the next year, thanks. I still want to see the non-Denali version of the Sierra. I like my 4wd with a low range option!
  17. Cadillac SRX? Mostly good reviews, award by Car and Driver, hasn't been that well received in the market...
  18. JULY 18, 2006 Insight By Ed Wallace Detroit Ignores Its Dealers At Its Peril Heavy discounting and added costs by U.S. automakers are bleeding its dealer bodies Most auto industry observers think they know what is wrong with Detroit. As General Motors weighs a possible alliance with Renault and Nissan, and Ford hands out the pink slips and slashes its dividends, the Greek chorus of critics has its favorite targets of what to fix first: expensive labor contracts, poor understanding of the market, mediocre designs and quality, resistance to hybrid technology and an ossified bureaucracy that is out of touch with reality. Yet, the sharp-eyed will have noticed that progress is being made in all these areas. Labor contracts are being renegotiated, Ford (F), General Motors (GM) and DaimlerChrysler's (DCX) Chrysler division are coming out with some of their best cars ever, hybrids and alternate fuel vehicles are being fast-tracked, and management is being shook up. But there is one fundamental problem that is largely ignored—and unaddressed: Detroit's manufacturers are slowly killing their dealer bodies. It's ominously like the way they managed to bankrupt so many of their automotive parts suppliers. Why is this so important? Well, if your parts supplier goes out of business, there are always others who want your business, usually from cheaper overseas manufacturers. But when you bleed the financial life out of your dealers, who's going to sell your automobiles? Article continued Full URL: http://yahoo.businessweek.com/autos/conten...0718_780276.htm
  19. POCI.org is the correct address...but you're right...it's dead. I sent an e-mail to the site technical contact asking WTF. The club contact info from the newsletter is as follows: Pontiac-Oakland Club P.O. Box 14057 Bradenton, FL 34280-4047 Phone: 941-792-4992 e-mail: [email protected] I also found a POCI Firebird specialty chapter listed too. Their (validated!) website is: www.pocifirebird.com and the chapter head is John Froehle, [email protected] And, of course, there's always the old fashion way of putting an ad in Hemmings...or even autotrader.com. eBay's been hit and miss for me trying to sell limited production cars. Hope this helps.
  20. You could try listing it on www.classicalpontiac.com or run an ad in the Pontiac Oakland Club International monthly magazine "Smoke Signals". www.poci.org
  21. Autoblog was speculating this could be the next Grand Prix pending a test drive by the GM board in Aug. $10mil for the "Pontiac conversion"... Article
  22. Will be interesting to see what he has to say on CNBC at 4pm today...
  23. I use products from CarBrite...they supply a lot of dealerships in my area. I just walk-in to one of the local distributors and pay cash...byproduct of a part-time detailing business many years ago... CarBrite's website for those who are curious.
