First of all a great write up Mr. Blu. The only thing I noticed when I was at the Astra ride and drive event was that the first gear seemed to be long, and made it less fun. I talked to the PR lady and she said may be after people hammering it for about three months, it might have taken some beating. It is certainly among the best FWD shifters. Makes it real fun to drive. The clutch action is just right. The body is well balanced. Like reg said you should go for the HHR SS. Although the price difference is about $5K, which is roughly $100/month on a 5 year loan, or about $60/month on a 39 month lease. There should be a limit on what you spend, and I respect that. May be that would be a good vehicle to put the 4.9SIDI and the upcoming diesel to start with. They should not wait for the H4 till 2010 or beyond. You cannot ignore one brand and look for pushing the other in the integrated design and development scenario.

I agree that more than the concept vehicle it is the engine and drive train that GM is trying to focus on. With SIDI I am thinking more close to 340hp than 323 (est) that GM is telling us. The truck may not see light in this form, but we should have the engines in GMT 900s and may be in Lambdas soon.

I can see a family of diesels being utilized for the Zeta rather than only two engines. Is there a plan from GM to see a higher displacement diesel V-6 (3.6L or equivalent) any time soon?

A barge for Buick would be an ideal solution at that price range. But it will destine to alienate some customers from Caddy. CAFE and CO2 regs will definitely affect the race for HP. But over long term we will see more fuel efficient vehicles across the board. What is not good is these regulations no way support alternate fuels. Oil needs a competitor, which can compete a $1/gallon of gas, when the oil nations and companies go in the cut throat competition mode. If he did would he be ranting?
