Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz Introduces the A 35 Sedan
The GLE has that C pillar because the 1997 ML had it, and they have kept it ever since. The XT6 won't outsell the GLE, the GLE/ML has been a strong seller for a good while, probably the best selling SUV over $50k the past 10 years, although I don't care to tally up sales of it and the X5 to find out. It has track record, great interior, 3rd row seat now, and should do well in fuel economy with the new engines and the GLE has 4 engines to pick from vs the XT6's 1. What really matters is will the GLE63 take the SUV Nurburgring lap time from the GLC63. Which Audi and BMW do also. And Cadillac and Lincoln are trying to move towards. Even Lexus puts that predator mouth grille on everything. Mercedes does offer 3 grill options per model in most cases though.

But in an ATS you can't get a turbo 6 until the ATS-V. Now that may change on CT4. But you can get a V8 in a C-class, so you should be able to get the Blackwing V8 in a CT4. Unless the CT4 ends up Audi A3 size and smaller than the current ATS, then a beefed up ATS-V motor will work. This A-class will sell, the GLB will sell like hot cakes I bet when it arrives.

But the XT4 and XT5 don't have that. And that 335 hp V6 is way low on torque. A V6 should have at least 350 lb-ft or what is the point? The 3-series 6 cylinder is 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. There should be a 400 hp engine coming to the A-class, unless that make that CLA only, either way this 302 hp four is really the mid-level.

2020 Hyundai Venue to Debut in NY: Comments
I think the Kona looks good as does the Sonata. Whoever is doing their styling is hitting the mark. How many of these crossovers can they make though. Venue, Kona, Tucson, Sante Fe, Palliade, and maybe I missed one of there could be more coming.

I think this is a pretty bargain performance package, I imagine they price it in the low $40s (starting) and it is a fast car for that money. Glad to see they added some rigidity also, sounds similar to what they do with the underside of the SL and probably every concertible. Maybe GM can buy this engine off Mercedes for all those front drive Cadillacs. 302 hp and 295 lb-ft with a dual clutch sounds better than the 237 hp unit they have now.

Kia News: Kia Reveals Two SUV Concepts in Seoul
The Masterpiece looks pretty large and obnoxious and they should build it just like that and use that name also because it will sell well here. Americans like big obnoxious trucks, I think the Masterpiece would steal some Tahoe and Expedition sales for sure. As far as the SP goes, sure why not, we probably won’t saturate the crossover market until 20 brands have about 10 crossovers each to pick from. Then all the millennials will hate crossovers because that is what “mom” drives much like Gen X thinks minivans mom mobiles and their grandma had a Buick so those aren’t cool. Then we can get back to cars after this crossover craze burns out.

Industry News: Renault and Nissan want to Formally Merge; Make Bid for FCA
Renault and Nissan both would have to stay, they can share mechanicals on probably everything, Renalut seems better at small cars and Nissan more so on SUV but they can merge all that and rebage stuff. That covers main stream. Maybe Dodge stays as a performance brand but Renault has an F1 team maybe they do cheap person instead of Dodge and Dodge is killed too. Chrysler dies move the Pacifica to Nissan. Fiat and Lancia die as Renault has small cars. Ram and Jeep are safe, Alfa Romeo or Maserati need to stay as a luxury brand with Infiniti.

The ghost of Carlos Ghosn lives on. Sound like the super merger he always wanted will happen anyway. If they combine all 3 into one company they will have to kill some brands.

GM News: GM Inline-6 Diesel Rated
They should make an I-6 gas in a final death blow to the 3.6 V6. Anything front drive can get enough power from a 4-cylinder especially with electric boost as an option. So if 6 cylinder is only in rear drive then it should be inline. Side note, they should put the in-line 6 in the Tahoe also.

How often do you change your oil?
Moblie One (0W-40 I believe). Changed once a year, I have a 10,000 mile interval and don't drive that much a year generally. I have never had to add any oil in between changed either.

It's the 9-Speed Automatics
Detuning the 4 cylinder for fuel economy, in a luxury car that is $60k doesn't make any sense. Maybe it would make sense if there was some great NVH improvement, but 7.5 seconds is slow. Granted the old folks in Florida taking it to Cracker Barrel won't care, and there is a more powerful engine for people that do care. It just seems like more bizarre GM decision making, that isn't based on customer demand, but rather supplier issues, manufacturing costs, parts bin inventory, bean counters, etc.
