  1. CT6 is also priced like a 5-Series. Compare sales of those two. CT6 should be outselling the Escalade based on its price point.
  2. I can’t believe they still sell the MKT. That thing needs to die. I am surprised they are still selling over 1,000 Continentals a month, unless 50% are fleet orders.
  3. They sold a ridiculous amount of Silverados, but GM’s car business is dead in the water especially at Cadillac and Buick. I for one dislike crossovers, I wouldn’t drive one if it was given to me for free so 80% of GM’s lineup is boring to me.
  4. Best sales month ever. They said sedan sales were dead but the E-class and S-class were on fire. Lexus sold 360 LS’s vs over 2,100 S-class and the Lexus IS $20,000 cheaper. Incredible! @dfelt they are cancelling the SLC at the end of its model run around 2019. Everything else lives on!
  5. A good month for BMW, Audi and Mercedes. Terrible month for Japanese and American luxury brands.
  6. I can’t believe they still make the Sequoia and Land Cruiser, I feel like the last major update to those was in 2005. Time to close up shop on the Lexus GS and LS, those 2 are in the tank and the LS is a new model and it is down 50%! I guess that predator grille is scaring people away.
  7. 80% of Buick sales and 78% of GM sales are crossovers/trucks, is that a good thing or bad thing?
  8. Audi needs this, their cars look super similar. I liked when Mercedes made the E-class look different than the S-class, and the C-class had those junior S-class styling cues, seemed to work well for them, but the C, E, S classes are all selling well so the current theme works too.
  9. The Jeep will be cheaper for sure, I imagine used Lincoln SUVs are dirt cheap too. Obviously a Mercedes or Porsche is going to be at the top end of the price spectrum, they cost the most new and have good resale.
  10. 2014 ML550 for $34k at North Coast Auto mall in Ohio, only 30,000 miles. 443 lb-ft of torque, 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. I was looking at Porsche Cayenne's, hard to find any under $50k that aren't over 5 years old, or 2014 with the base 300 hp V6. You'd have to really hunt for a Hybrid or V8 Cayenne under $50k.
  11. True, I haven't looked to see what GLE400s are out there. I have a friend with a GLE450 coupe that is pretty quick and has easy torque and the 9-speed. I have driven the GLE350 with the naturally aspirated V6, it is fine for daily driving, I imagine it is similar to a Pentastar Grand Cherokee. The downside to the GLE350 is you live in the 3-4,000 rpm range a lot when accelerating, where as with my car I can be at 2,000 rpm with the V8 torque. I bet there are ML550's out there getting cheap and all V8 Mercedes have Airmatic. I don't know anything about the Porsche Air suspension, Mercedes uses Bilstien air springs, same ones are used on the BMW 7-series and Range Rover. I had to have my air springs replaced last month, I have 97,000 miles on my car, 10 years old, it varies how long they last. One was totally shot, and the 2 rear were leaking, they replaced all 4 and it drives like it just rolled off the factory, it is unbelievable how good the ride is in that I have hit expansion joints on a bridge and heard it, but couldn't feel it. The dealer only charged for parts on just the front and took $200 off, charged labor on front and rear and then took 10% off the whole bill at the end.
  12. Maybe the new XJ will be a 7 seat SUV.
  13. Jeep is a perennial bottom dweller in every reliability study, only Fiat consistently ranks lower and Jeep is often worse than Land Rover and Mitsubishi, and Dodge and Chrysler are down there too every year since they share so many parts with Jeep. I would look at a Porsche Cayenne used also, Porsche is known for their quality and reliability and they have great resale value too.
  14. Hopefully it isn’t a 4-door coupe. Maybe it will light up with neon circles like a vehicle from Tron.
  15. So why not get a certified used GLE400 at the same money which has a 700 lb tongue weight, 7,000 lb tow rating, does 0-60 a full second faster than the Hemi Grand Cherokee and gets better gas mileage. And we know where Jeep ranks on all the reliability charts.
  16. What is the price limit for this vehicle? And is a V6 or V8 preferred? Because there are some big gas mileage differences between something like a Hylander Hybrid and a Tahoe.
  17. Ugly car but that is a lot of electric horsepower and nice to have 3 power levels. 2 speed transmission is interesting because Tesla only has one.
  18. They need a good V6, not some dinosaur V6 with 240 hp like what the Frontier has or had, not even sure what engine is in it now. What would be interesting is the 3.0 turbo V6 Infiniti has, that makes 400 hp which is probably pretty close to the V8 they have since the Nissan/Infiniti 5.6 liter V8 was born on the same day as dirt.
  19. A 2002 G500 was $72,000 new, $22,000 used. I was suggesting a 2007 G500 that would be about $39k. Because almost no car holds 50% value when it is 10 years old.
  20. Mercedes-AMG only has one V8 now, the 4.0 liter bi-turbo, makes anywhere from 479 hp to 603 hp and 627 lb-ft depending on the car. The Ferrari 488 has a 3.9 liter V8 with 660 hp and 560 lb-ft. The McLaren 720S has a 4.0 liter V8 with 710 hp and 568 lb-ft You have the Bentley with over 810 lb-ft of torque from their V8, who's to say what is best.
  21. I read the whole thread, my first thought was Kia Boreggo V8, because I knew they would be dirt cheap, and after looking on Auto Trader, they indeed are sub $10,000, but there are very few with the V8 and the V8 only made 337 hp, not the 375 hp the Genesis had, so that was a bust. Why not just get a G-class? They don't go down in value so it doesn't really cost anything other than gas to own it. 10 year old models go for about $38,000. I found a 2003 with 270,439 miles for $22,000, I can't think of any other car that old with that many miles that still holds nearly 1/3 of its original $72,000 sticker price.

    e39 M5 Vs Chevy SS

I'd imagine when the Chevy SS is 17 years old it will either be rusted out in a junk yard or also costing a fortune to maintain. I've driven the E39 540i, really good driving car, but it was years ago. I don't think the E39 would make a good daily driver being near 20 years old now, but if it could be somewhat of a collectible or weekend type car.
  23. So what if the A-class is small? There are lots of cars smaller than the A-class in the market and especially in Europe. Mercedes is looking to take care of this segment just as they have taken care of small-medium-large sedans.
  24. Fleet sales help profit margin? And the Mercedes website does say the CLA is front wheel drive, on the features section, under performance and handling which is the very first feature group listed it says it is front drive and has a whole paragraph about it.
  25. If the 2.0T costs the same to build, then why doesn't Chevy make a 2.0T standard in all Cruze, Malibu and Equinox and blow away the Ford, Toyota and Hyundai competition? If you want a 2.0T in a Malibu you have to spend $31,850 on the Premier model. And even if the 1.5T and 2.0T cost GM the same to make, once you go to the 250 hp engine you have to beef up the transmission, beef up the engine mounts and engine cradle, enhance the suspension, better differential to limit toque steer, etc. Cost, cost, cost. And as far as cost to build goes, I'd image the profit margin on a CLA is the worst of any Mercedes. They probably only make $1-2,000 per car on CLA/GLA's vs about $5-6,000 on every E-class sold.
