  1. I think there are a good number of people that will buy a pickup, even in Europe and it has a 3 pointed star on the front so people will want it. I don’t expect it to be a top seller of theirs by any means but I am sure they will turn profit on it.
  2. Depends on what a buyer finds to be "better." The GLS is a unibody SUV, it is the Cadillac CT6 lightweight of the segment, yet it also has the most powerful engine in the segment. Escalade, Navigator, QX80, LX570 are all built on modified pick up truck chassis. So if tow rating is #1, then the pick up truck frame is important, if you don't tow, and I have never seen a trailer behind an Escalade, Navigator, GLS, QX80 or LX570, then maybe that doesn't matter.
  3. I don’t, I would take a GT S over a GT R but I would take an SL over a GT also. But that wing doesn’t look as tacky as the ZR1’s.
  4. X3e is rumored for 2020, Mercedes will have theirs out before that and with more horsepower. I hope BMW makes 10 electric cars, the more the merrier. The more EV's out there the better they will get, the cheaper they will get. The more companies pushing for the change, the faster it will happen.
  5. It is on the same platform and it seats 4 people. Lamborghini has already said it has a Lamborghini exclusive V8 with 650 hp, top speed is estimated at 205 mph, it had a sand dune mode, off road mode, and track mode, they say it will beat the Alfa Romeo Stelvio's Nurburgring record for an SUV. And it starts at just $200,000, and they think it will double Lamborghini sales volume.
  6. The Urus could have no room and ride like crap and people will pay $300k for it, because it says Lamborghini on the back. And that is my point, you don't have to have interior room or ride quality, there are people that want performance and will buy an SUV based on 0-60 time and Nurburgring time. Which is why I have said for a few years GM needs to be in the performance SUV game before it is too late.
  7. Amazing power, styling looks a bit too fast and furious or cartoony with the big wing. But the C7 overall isn't one of the better looking Corvettes.
  8. I am saying big money spenders in most cases aren’t looking for just a bigger vehicle. The old thinking is an SUV needs to haul 8 people and tow 10,000 lbs and the roominess or comfort is what makes it luxury. But then you have a Cayenne Turbo, Bentley Bentayga, forthcoming Lamborghini and Ferrari SUVs, etc. Then what is more “luxurious” a $90,000 full size Escalade ESV or a $300,000 Lamborghini Urus? And people say a Lamborghini or Ferrari SUV is crazy, I bet for both brands it is their #1 seller.
  9. Easy to do when you take a short cut. Mercedes isn’t making an EV version of any existing car but rather coming up with an all new platform for all new 10 EV’s. If the X3e has 250+ mile range and 400 hp then fantastic, if it is a compromised vehicle like the eGolf then pass on that. The i3 is a compromised vehicle, make that thing drive like a 335i and then they would be on to something.
  10. Lots of $100k and up sports cars that are tight. I doubt a Ferrari has any room in it yet people buy anyway. G-Wagon is smaller than a GLE but people fork over double GLE money for it. Sometimes luxury isn’t about size or even performance, it is about look at me, look at how much money I have.
  11. Oddly enough GLS sales are up 9% this year and 2018 is the final model year for this generation. Escalade and Navigator are both down this year. So I guess width isn't a big deal for buyers.
  12. That may be but the GLS is also a unibody compared to a body on frame so maybe that is why the feel is different. GLS’s dimensions inside and out are very close to Navigator, Escalade, LX570, QX80, etc. And as stated before, Mercedes has to sell the GLS in Europe and China so they have to factor that into the size and engine choices too. Plus more size doesn’t equal better. That is like arguing the Town Car is better than a CT6 because it is larger.
  13. Ford has a European footprint, they also have an international Ranger right now. I could see Ford selling a Ranger in Europe and doing well with it. They already have gas and diesel engines for the Euro market to use without having to come up with anything new to meet regulations.
  14. A 936 hp electric Bentley would be epic! Build that please.
  15. I posted the dimensions and the GLS has more head and leg room in all 3 rows except Escalade wins front leg room, GLS wins the other 5. Also funny that the GM fans say the CT6 is on par with an S-class even though the S-class is larger and has more room. Talk about bar moving.
  16. Right, the GL/GLS has outsold the Navigator every year in which the GL has been on sale in the USA. And you are 100% right, Mercedes designs cars for the whole world not just the USA, globally the GLS outsells Navigator and Escalade combined. And there is a new GLS next year, the Maybach version will blow these other guys away, ditto for the 600 hp AMG. The GLS and Escalade are with in 2 inches in every dimension of each other and the 2013 Escalade was actually shorter than the GLS, they made the Escalade bigger for the current generation. These two since 2006 have been very close in size.
  17. I don’t care about a Subaru race car time compared to a production car, a Formula 1 car could do the Nurburgring ring in about 5:30, compare the Subaru to that. 7 minutes for a production car is like cracking the 4 minute mile for a runner.
  18. The GLS has outsold the Escalade before in the USA, it could take it back over with a new model or if the Navigator cuts into Escalade sales. Escalade sales saw a spike when the the Navigator tanked a few years ago. Globally the GLS outsells all these big luxury SUVs.
  19. Gotta see it on the Nurburgring, the great equalizer.
  20. One feels smaller while driving because of superior ride, handling, acceleration and braking. But the Escalade's size must equal larger interior right? Uh Oh... Headroom 1st/2nd/3rd row Escalade 39.7 / 38.7 / 38.1 GLS 41.2 / 40.0 / 38.9 Legroom 1st/2nd/3rd row Escalade 45.3 / 39.0 / 24.8 GLS 40.3 / 40.0 / 38.5 Total cargo volume Escalade 94.2 cubic feet GLS 93.8 cubic feet
  21. GLS is 202 x 76 x 73 Escalade is 204 x 81 x 75 They are close
  22. I know, that is why I said GM makes 650 hp from theirs, Dodge 707 hp from the Hellcat. Plenty of power, putting on the ground is more the issue. DOHC isn't a requirement to make horsepower, it is just what the majority does. These brands use DOHC: Alfa Romeo, Acura, Audi, Aston Martin, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, Infiniti, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Maserati (Bentley has both, but phasing out pushrod with current Mulsanne) These brands have pushrod engines: Chevy, Cadillac, Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler
  23. All the non-DOHC performance engines, like the GM 6.2 liter V8 and the Hellcat V8 and, oh that's it. All the Asian and European sports cars and Ford use DOHC. You don't have to have DOHC, obviously GM makes 650 hp with a pushrod, but there are way more in the DOHC camp than there are in the pushrod camp. The AMG DOHC V8 hits peak torque at 900 lower rpm than the GM 6.2 supercharged V8, so it isn't like you have to wind out a DOHC to 9,000 rpm to get anything out of it.
