  1. Ok, so a standard Tahoe is rated at 20, a whopping 1mpg difference between a much smaller less powerful 4 runner. I thought it was a funny thing to brag in the ad when it's really not that good. It's better than a trailblazer however. You can get 20mpg highway in a Tahoe...just depends on how you drive.
  2. I've had a V6 LTZ since January. There are more of them now, but people still look and comment on the car when I fill gas and go places. We really like this car. At 6500 miles, mileage is starting to get better. The 26mpg highway rating seems low. I get around 23mpg 40%highway 60%city.
  3. Actually, Malibu>Camry with 6 speed and I4, and Cobalt>=Corolla. I laughed at a 4 Runner add I saw yesterday. They said it got an efficient 21 mpg. You can get that with a Tahoe and have a whole lot more vehicle and capability.
  4. For me there are 2 reasons not to buy a Silverado. There's a lot less GMC's (and Dodges) sold so it's easier to make my ride unique. My GMC is pretty much stock but it sticks out in the crowd because of the 2-tone paint and the color scheme isn't common. The other, I think the 09 Dodge looks cooler than the Silverado. As long as I'm not giving up too much on mileage, comfort, and performance, I'd buy a Dodge.
  5. I see the business case for cutting GMC over Pontiac. Given the choice, I'll always pick GMC over a Chevrolet truck. I'd even drive other brands over some years of Chevy's. If they cut a division, not everyone is going switch to other GM products. If they'd cut GMC when i'm ready for another new pickup, I'd probably get a Dodge. Just not a fan of those buldging fenders.
  6. I've always thought that's like taking a shower and putting dirty underwear back on.
  7. I'm not going to touch your analogy. I'm saying some people still need gas guzzlers. Some one needs to provide them. The companies that gererally do it best are the big 3. We're penalizing our own industry because this regulation is a little short sighted. I'm still going to need a pickup even if gas is $10 a gallon. I won't drive it as much, but I'll still use it.
  8. Link So because US automakers make better large vehicles and therefore sell more they get penalized more? Was CAFE dreamed up by politicians that don't understand math? Seems like required mileage ratings should depend on the class of vehicle. I'm not opposed to gas mileage requirements but it's really not going to force construction companies to trade their 1-ton work truck for a Honda Civic. Trucks are still needed, and this penalizes companies who make good ones and therefore sell more. This is going to hurt US industry more in the process. Did I miss something?
  9. Isn't that about what they sold for new?
  10. I knew a girl in college that was changing a flat rear tire on her metro and it fell of the jack. So I lifted the car and she replaced the jack.... Never felt safe in that car again.
  11. Ya I know, I didn't have a sarcasm smiley. The 6 speed really stretches the legs on the highway and is geared down in town. Only has 5k on it tho, and keeps getting better.
  12. My parents had an '88 Olds delta 88 with a 3.8 that got 30-31 on the highway. I had a '03 Impala with a 3.8 that got ~24 city and 32 Highway (65mph and under) and 28-30 above 75. The Impala got better milage than my new Malibu with the 3.6. With CAFE, maybe GM will have to revive the 3.8... Neither of these motors ever had any trouble.
  13. I'm starting to see more and more of them....I'm not the only one anymore.
  14. So if I decifer these specs correctly, the 6.2 is only available in crew cab short box configuration??? WTF? Why not make it available on all configurations for people who actually use their pickups for WORK? Why is it not available in 3/4 ton models? C'mon GM, I was hoping for a crew cab standard box option, now I can't get a 6.2 in an extended cab standard box either.
  15. I've noticed the magazine ratings on the Tunrda are always pretty good, but folks I know that have them don't share the same opinion. OTOH, I know 3 guys with GMT900's 2 say their mileage is better than the GMT800's. The 900's aren't much heavier than the 800's but the 'yota is heavier than both. If they're really getting 18mpg consistently, they're doing pretty good.
  16. Have they really had good mileage? One if my friends was going to buy one but took it back after a few days because the mileage was terrible. Another person I know with a Tunrda likes it...except for the mileage. It will be interesting to see how the 6.2 gets rated and with the different gear ratios.
  17. Anyone have a guess on horsepower in the 6.2? The Tahoe has 380 and the Denali has 403. Will the new flex fuel be any different?
  18. They're not going to offer a 6.5' box with crew cab in a half ton are they? I've been waiting for a 6-speed and maybe the 6.2 and I'd like a crew cab, but I'm not getting the short box.
  19. I know of a guy that put 600000 miles on a '76 chevy pickup. Fenders were rotted to nothing. There were holes in the floorboards. Really nothing left...except the frame and drive train. It's crazy that a frame can rust out on such new models. Wonder what steel/treatment they're using? Frames don't shed dirt and debris? How such a big failure on something that's been done with success for so many years?
  20. I guess I still see celebritys old lesabres and such still on the road. The 80's GM cars in my family were great, put 300k on some of those cars. Corsicas and Luminas were mainly from the 90's and I think that's where they lost it for a while.
  21. I disagree. I can drive around the region an see lot's of old Buicks, Oldmobiles, and Chevrolets but few Toyotas. Not because people didn't buy them then, because they rust out and fall apart. Maybe toyotas have less trips to the shop in the first 100k, but they don't last longer. I would say most cars were pretty boring and dull tho in that era.
  22. Me too. Just need a 6 speed and I'll trade for one.
  23. I've seen 2 LTZ's in my town and I bought one of them. Haven't seen more than 2 or 3 in a dealer lot either. Where are they all going?
  24. The US company I work for just got purchased by Koreans. I hope these guys don't have the same philosophy. Being a proponent of buy american, I'm already struggling with it.
  25. I was going to reply and say it didn't exist and you saw a typo...but I found evidence this exists all over the internet. I'm embarassed too...
