    Impala

I went from a Impala to a new Malibu. Malibu is just a little small, I miss the extra space for haulin kids but I'm not into a CUV. The 3.6 gets slightly lower mpg than the Imp but the driving dynamics are improved. I would have got an Impala again but the Malibu was much more impressive. I think there's market for the Impala if it's done right. My old man is shopping for one so I've been checking them out lately. Had a few Avalons as rentals, they look nice put are put together very poorly. Not hard to improve on. It will be interesting to see how Taurus does.

    Impala

I'm sure it's on this site somewhere, but since RWD is killed does anyone know what the plan is for the Impala? LW EPII? Are they going to keep building the current one until no one buys it anymore? Ford has a good 1 - 2 punch with the Fusion and Taurus. Chevrolet's sales will continue to decline if they do nothing.
  3. Wow, that's original! Good work Honda! Or not. The door is open for GM/Ford to make cars that look interesting. Maybe people will buy them.
  4. I'm excited about the Volt and the technology it brings. However, how much will that 40 mile electric range be reduced when it's below 0? It was colder than -40 where I live this week, batteries get very weak. Anyone have hybrids that lives in a cold climate? How to they do?
  5. The interior on the RX...what were they thinking?
  6. I've seen people write that Saturn has never turned a profit. I'm not in know on this, but is it still true? Published somewhere recently? With their stronger lineup now, if the economy turns around I could see Saturn doing well. Probably too late.
  7. No mileage reports given on the 3.0 Any guesses? Maybe the 3.0 is the new base V6 on the Malibu and Lacrosse and a DI 3.6 goes to a sport version.
  8. No one realizes the VW van is a Chrysler. It's fun to fill people in. Toyota does an excellant job at PR and damage control. The biggest reason I don't like them is too many times when they screw up there's a 'Toyota spokes person' saying the defect or whatever is the result of an American supplier and that Toyota did nothing wrong, and sheeple eat it up.
  9. I agree 'Stang. Both parties are so busy looking out for their self interests, they're almost the same and just as corrupt. There are some good arguments on both sides, but then there are the completely uninformed, ignorant comments like the 'other' US industry building cars people want. It's frustrating. If they take over maybe toyota will start advertising their dull cars with asian ladies.
  10. Not at all a condervative thing. There are red states where domestic vehicles rule the road and people don't want these companies to go under. No one wants to pull a stock trailer full of cattle with a damn rusty Toyota. It's all about politics and self interests and getting re elected because foreign companies make jobs in their state or sticking with your buddies on your side of the aisle...and surely not patriotism
  11. Dodd is a crook, getting VIP treatment from failed Countrywide. Shelby's obvious motives, less jobs up north means more transplants in his state!
  12. I wonder how many people that are against the big 3 loan will go out an buy their next Toyota or Honda with a loan from a bank that got an even bigger bailout.

    Tires?

A lot has changed at Goodyear in recent years. Their latest car and light truck tires are top notch.
  14. What's interesting about Japan is it seems like they've put it all on the line for a piece of the American Pie. They have the highest debt to GDP ratio of any industrialized nation. I didn't realize this until recently, here's the link.

    GM stock

I can't believe how low GM's market cap is. With W and Paulson's blank checks and tax breaks to banks who will waste your tax dollars on CEO bonuses and dividends for stock holders it's easy to see where their priorities or shall I say 'buddies' are. The auto industry indirectly supports so much other industry in this country and they're doing nothing to fix the mess they've helped create. They don't care. Paulson's already scammed his millions from Wall St and myself and thousands of others are wondering if we have a job next month. Guess they don't have any buddies in the auto industry.

    Tires?

Goodyear triple treads or Cooper CS4. Can't get Cooper's every where but they're great tires and don't cost as much as GY's. Both made in USA.
  17. They could call the combined company American Motors Corporation. Has a nice ring to it huh? Does it seem odd that the government would support a merger which would cost thousands of jobs? Or in the end is it cheaper to pay the welfare of those losing their jobs and support 1 company? How about giving tax breaks to foreign companies so they can put domestic companies out of business who are paying for thousands of x-workers health care and benefits? Irony indeed.
  18. I never understood how GMAC got any business anyway. My credit score has always been 750+ and they've never been close to competitive on any of my auto loans. Anyone else have similar experience?
  19. I saw one in a parking lot so I stopped at the Dodge dealer and they had 4 on the lot. They're impressive. The Laramie package looks great. I resisted the temptation to drive it, the sales guy said it rides better than the Toyotas (Dodge/Toyota dealer) they have on the lot. (It's probably not already rusting either) Good job Dodge.
  20. Seems to me like they're over reacting to the ecomomy making everything smaller. My family isn't getting any smaller. We're not going to haul less stuff. I bought a new Malibu because it's a sweet car compared to the Impala, even though it's a little small for my needs. Competitive small cars are very important but do they really think people will abandon larger vehicles? I think the sting of $4/gallon gas will ease a bit. We'll see. I guess I'd be ok with a Tahoe getting 20mpg as long as I can haul and pull stuff.
  21. http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/8370...n-Toyota-motors 3% of 800HP is 24HP. That will make a difference.
  22. I had a Celebrity with a 2.8 for a bit. Bought it in college for $500 with 130k and put many more miles on it. Drove it all over the place, including a few long road trips. I'm not sure how GM got such a bad quality rep either, the celebrity was MUCH better than the corolla I drove later. Comfortable reliable car that could start at -30, mine was anyway.
  23. 1. 2 2. Just got a new one, so no.
  24. 1. 1 2. Probably. Current Sierra has been pretty good, but if the 09 Dodge has a 1/2 ton 6.5' box and crew cab, might be a tough choice.
  25. I was going off of epa ratings for 08. Last time I checked 36 is greater than 35....although that is only for one model. I thought the other Cobalts got at least 35...guess not.
