1. QUOTE(moltar @ Aug 7 2008, 11:02 AM) That I don't remember..I can't recall the last time I saw a Firenza or later Skyhawk. But I did see a late 1st gen ('87-88 or so) Sunbird convertible in decent shape recently.. First gen Sunbird-Cavalier were decent cars. GM should have killed them off before they brought out the second gen. Chris
2. QUOTE(Sixty8panther @ Aug 7 2008, 02:01 PM) For those of you weirdos that think there's something cool about that you'd probably love the burgundy '92? Buick Century 2dr that is for sale about 2 miles away from my huose... sitting there for a month now, no love I guess. Here's an interesting vehicle that I had not seen in ages untill one pulled up next to me the other day: '77 AMC Gremlin. I took a few pics... it was rush hour on the highway so we talked for a bit, this was a few weeks ago, I was driving the Banana Boat so it made for good conversation. The Gremlin is one of those odd cars that I happen to like just because it is strange. Guy that lives about four blocks from me just sold an 89 Z-28 T-top car and bought an old VW THING. I like those strange animals also. Call me nuts. Chris
3. QUOTE(balthazar @ Sep 10 2005, 06:49 AM) I swear I haven't seen a honda, toyota or datsun made earlier than the early '80s in forever. Did see a '72 Polara this past weekend. What I always wonder about is hugely popular cars like the Pinto; haven't seen one of those in years & years either. (>Insert quip about exploding here<) I used to kinda maintain a 'cut-off' year in my head: the year back-to that you'd still see infrequently running around. I remember when it inched up thru the later '60s, then it seemed to leapfrog over most of the '70s up to '77. Now it's seems to be at about '87 or thereabouts. The only exception is '70s Darts; I still them every once in a while. Dude, that exploding thing was sooo sad. We were on vaccation as a family when I was a boy and we drove right past where those four girls were killed in that flaming Pinto about 45 minutes after it happened. I still remember the big black marks on the pavement. But a lot of cars burned when they were hit in the ass end. I went to college with a guy named Joel Sonnenberg who was an infant in a Chevy Impala that was rear ended in a toll booth. He had MAJOR MAJOR burn injuries and lived the rest of his life with huge scars. Chris
4. Dude, like I said I totally support your right to own a hardtop fresh from Dee-Troit. Chris
5. Impressive, but not as impressive as the Volvo. Trying to teach my son Joel about driving...we were sitting at a light last night and it turned green and I shook my head "no." About a second after I shook my head "no" a semi blasted through the intersection at about 60 m.p.h...he must not have seen his red light at all. Made an impression on my son! Side impact wrecks are scary no matter what the car. And actually Scion and toyota build the cars that have the highest roof crush resistance. I think both the RX-8 and Scion TC were two of the best cars tested. But I'd still rather drive an early 60's hard top in some ways. Chris
6. CARBIZ, OC, enzl, and company for being reality addicts.... Chris
7. Can't get the link to work, maybe someone can fix it? Chris
8. www.wot.motortrend.com/6251397/miscellaneous/muscle-cars-destroyed-in-the-name-of-art/index.html Chris
9. The Camaro is hot, can we get the nude photos of the vollyball player next? Chris
10. Depends on the car...we don't really know where automotive design will take us over the next 15 years, and I could see an upscale 4 door hardtop go into production. Next CTS or 300, anyone? Chris
11. I know we don't always agree, but this is why I come here and this is why I love about 85% of your posts here. this is written by a man who loves automobiles. I am ALL FOR hardtops, I just don't want it to be the only criteria we use in evaluating a car. Alfa Romeo has built beautiful cars both with and without B-pillars, IMHO. And one of the coolest cars running around my old hometown in Indiana was a SS396 69 Chevelle 300, the base model with the post...just like there is a really cool Post W-30 (gold, white top) 70 442 running around Springfield Ohio. Also, as I've said before, I really like Tri-5 Chevy's as post cars, because that was what was drag raced and road raced and ran in NASCAR back in the day. All I want is to be able to love-get excited about-both hardtop and non-hardtop cars. Sometimes I feel like "B" pillar is almost the lone issue in deciding an automotive design... But not just yes but HELL YES, GM build us a hardtop Camaro NOW! And +1 to people falling in love with cars again. Chris Chris
12. They need to study other premium small cars harder perhaps. Chris
13. Actually I think the G8 would make a cool movie car. Chris
14. This is actually not a bad idea. Reg seems to like larger vehicles. Chris
15. Biggest problem is that even if you liked the car and did all of your own work, most of these cars aren't even worth $3500 in pristine shape. To me The only good 'rebuilder" cars of the last 20 years or so are Camaro's, Mustangs, and really mainstream Asian and European stuff. The rest can pretty much go to the crusher. Chris
16. You might try reading Grassroots Motorsports. Sounds like that sort of thing is up your alley. Chris
17. I like Fiero's but GM didn't really pull it together until the end on this one. Which is why I like the SKy/Solstice...GM got them pretty much right (yeah I know, storage space and top) from the get go. Chris
18. Keep the Sonoma and make the 944 a hobby vehicle. I would NOT want one as a daily driver. Chris
19. Actually I had a friend who bought one of those and it got over 20 MPG on rural roads...until he dropped in a Supercharged 454. Then it was more like 6. Chris
20. Lightly used (yeah, I know not new) Lucerne would def. be in range. Hell of a car. A friends brother bought one...and my friend keeps calling it the Cistern. But I digress. Hell of a nice looking car...but more your speed than mine. Chris
21. Interestingly, the Columbus, Ohio Dispatch mentioned the Avenger in a front page article. They are actually one of the cars in Central Ohio appreciating the fastest in value on the resale end. Probably not just the high price of gas...maybe Cerebus is doing something right? Chris
22. Actually I love VW interiors. Not great looking in the vintage car sense, but VERY comfortable IMHO and nicely done. Why not get a base GTI for about 23k? Chris
