Interactive Review: 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited 1.6T
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
Exactly. I said something positive about the Venue, which was largely off topic and could have been passed over, but someone had to go there. So the comment on 9/14/20 at 9:37 a.m. is what started the descent. A challenge like that deserves an answer. So my on topic comment is this: Everyone is going crazy, overstyling their sedans to try to grab a dwindling customer base. It is still worth it to develop sedans, but the base of buyers is shrinking by the day, so every sedan has to "stand out", and crazy styling (in the age of oppressive regulations) is the popular way to do so.- 77 replies

Interactive Review: 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited 1.6T

Saw a K5 at the local dealer over the weekend, I also like it better than the Sonata overall. The front end of the Sonata reminds me of a bottom dwelling catfish, but the rest of the car looks fine, imho. The K5 is not saddled with any excessively bizarre elements. Both have very nice interiors.- 77 replies

Well, the promised "sub $20k" starting price for the Maverick has me hopeful, but the spy shots have me worried... a regular cab with a minimum 6' bed is needed as one of the choices, but all I'm seeing is crewcab with 2' beds so far.

Save for the vapor, loss leader Trailblazer L that no one will be able to actually buy in quantity, the Trailblazer and Kona are way more closely matched in size and price than the Chevy is to the Venue. The Venue occupies a space a tick below the Trailblazer in size and price and tops out in the $23k range, where the Kona and Trailblazer each have top trims in the $31k range.- 77 replies

I'm told this one is a '78. The black bumper rub strips confirm it is a later model. Hard to believe in '79 they would go to the starkly designed, heritage-challenged Fox Body Mustang. They certainly wiped the slate clean with that one. My favorite Fox-Body Mustang was the late model LX 5.0 Notchback, simple and potent. In dark green, of course!

We've had plenty of Venue SE where I work, in various colors. I stand by my assertion that Trailblazer L, available only in white, is persona non grata when it comes to availability. If you had the power to infer, you'd know that price is of paramount concern. None of the "competitors" you list in base trim are ever put on dealer lots... they are price leaders for ad purposes only, where Hyundai makes the base car as accessible as the uplevel trims.- 77 replies

Trailblazer (bare bones $19,995, only available in white and basically vaporware on availability to the public) Ecosport ($21,240 with a 1.0L 3) and Renegade ($23,870 if you get white, the only no extra cost color) are also real-world priced WAY higher than a Venue SE iVT, with MSRP of $19,725 with freight... before incentives. I triple dog dare you to find a Trailblazer L anywhere but in a fleet or as a rental. Plus Hyundai throws in free maintenance. So no, they are not apples to apples comparable. Try again. Or not.- 77 replies

Link please. To a domestic 2020/2021 competitor to the Venue. Sweet baloney and American cheese with yellow mustard on white bread... makes a tasty sandwich.- 77 replies

Meh, stop with the baloney. It's a perfect car for my mom, for example, and there is no domestic alternative.- 77 replies
