  1. Taking the place of the Toyota 86 this week at the Cheers & Gears' Detroit bureau is the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Limited. A car which I have been wanting to drive since it made its North American debut last spring at the New York Auto Show. The new model solves one of the biggest criticisms I had with the last-generation model, a very boring and plain design. Taking it out last night, I was noticing people glancing at this midsize sedan. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder producing 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This is paired with an eight-speed automatic. T

  3. The Hyundai Sonata is likely to make a big splash with its good looks when it hits dealers in a few weeks. One thing that was missing from the original release of the Sonata was an up-level engine option. To review, the Sonata can be optioned with a 191 horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or a 180 horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with a wide peak torque band and 195 lb.-ft. Gone is the 245 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo. Back in April, Hyundai confirmed that it would produce an N-Line version of the car with 275 horsepower. That car is likely to be debuting at the LA Auto Show late

  5. Hyundai has released released details of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. While visually it remains close to the non-hybrid version, it does get a different grille, rear spoilers, and special alloy wheels to fine tune aerodynamics. Hyundai has two technologies debuting on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. First is a solar roof system that recharges the battery to increase travel distance and unnecessary battery discharge. When the system gets an average of 6 hours a day of charging, it is expect to increase travel distance by about 800 miles annually. The second is a new 6-speed hyb

  7. The Hyundai Sonata broke cover a couple of weeks before the New York Auto Show, but I finally got to see it on Thursday. While there are frequent reports that the midsize sedan segment is dying, it still is able to move about 153,000 units just in the month of March. Hyundai sees an opportunity here as some of its competition, namely the Ford Fusion, will be going to the great used-car lot in the sky in the near future. Still, the Sonata has only sold around 21,000 units year to date while Nissan can move that many Altimas in a month and Accord and Camry do even better. So what is Hyundai

  11. Hyundai has released pictures of the next generation 2020 Hyundai Sonata about a month ahead of the cars formal debut at the New York International Auto Show. This eighth generation Sonata is an all-new design that is much bolder than the rather conservative model currently on sale. The new design theme is called Sensuous Sportiness. The new car is larger than the outgoing model by 1 inch in width, 1.4 inches in wheelbase, and 1.8 inches in length. Hyundai has made efforts to improve the premium feel of the cabin. The dash has a minimalist feel to it while the dash cluster and infotai
  12. Last week, Hyundai released images of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata sedan, but was scant with the technical details. Today, Hyundai revealed that the 2020 Sonata will ride on a new Third-Generation platform designed to enhance safety, efficiency, and driving performance. The platform underpinning the 2020 Sonata will eventually find its way into other products. On the safety front, the platform uses super high tensile steel, hot stamping, and a multi-load path structure. The Multi-load path helps in a collision by increasing the amount of energy absorbed by the structure and reduces intrusion

  15. Hyundai had set itself a high bar when it launched the sixth-generation Sonata for the 2010 model year. It stood out from a crowded field of midsize sedans with an exterior shape that resembled a Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class. The Sonata also boasted a comfortable interior, loads of technology features, a good selection of engines, and a nice balance between comfort and sport. Replacing this model would be a tough task and one Hyundai wasn’t able to meet. When the seventh-generation model rolled out at 2014 New York Auto Show, you could hear the cry of a sad trombone. The new Sonata had gone conserv

  17. Following a few months after the debut of the refreshed Sonata, Hyundai used the Chicago Auto Show to debut the 2018 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid. Like the gas counterpart, the hybrid models feature new front and rear end styling, revised wheel designs (16 and 17-inches), and LED headlights. The interior is mostly the same as the standard model aside from a different instrument cluster and additional screens pertaining to hybrid system for the infotainment system. Qi wireless charging for smartphones is available as an option. Under the hoods of the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybri

  19. Quick Drive: 2016 Hyundai Sonata Limited, 2.4L 6A While my parents were away, I took a little time to use their second car to offset some of the mileage on my lease. The Sonata they leased was their first lease ever, and honestly they got it for a steal. The car is nicer than their last Sonata, a 2006 with the 3.3L V6 and a 5-speed automatic. Having spent a couple of hundred miles on both highway and city driving, over the course of 2 weeks, they’ve made dramatic improvements in a decade. They styling I’m not at all crazy about. Frankly, I think it’s ugly and a ste
  20. Hyundai has been trying hard with the Sonata in the crowded mid-size segment for at least 2 decades. When the 2015 Sonata debuted at the 2014 New York Auto Show, it was largely received with a yawn. Despite being a competent vehicle (read our review of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0T), it just wasn’t enough to fully challenge the Accord, Camry, and Fusion for love from the automotive press. As early as the following year, Hyundai had already announced a redesign for Sonata. Here we are back at the 2017 New York Auto Show with the redesigned 2018 Sonata. A quick shake of the magic 8-b

  22. When Hyundai unveiled the current Sonata at 2014 New York Auto Show, it landed with a bit of thud. Compared to the previous-generation model that stood out from the crowd with a sharp design, the new model was a bit dull. Hyundai is addressing this with a heavily refreshed Sonata that made its debut today in New York. The 2018 Sonata has a bit more personality thanks to new pentagonal grille (Sport and 2.0T models get a mesh insert), reshaped hood, smaller headlights, new trunk lid, and LED taillights. For the interior, Hyundai has redesigned the center stack, updated the instrument cluste

  24. FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today reported its best February in company history, selling 53,009 units for the month, up one percent versus the same period last year. "The strong demand for the all-new Tucson continued through the month with sales up 90 percent over last February," said Derrick Hatami, vice president of national sales for Hyundai Motor America. "Our refreshed Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models have begun hitting showrooms. Combined with the success of Tucson, we expect our CUV lineup to lead the charge as we close o
