  1. Hey is your instrument cluster lens dulled out? Try polishing it with toothpaste, I hear it does a good job. That is one cool find, sir. It reminds me perfectly of the basic wagons my paternal grandfather used to buy. He had a '69 Nomad (A-body) in light blue with inline six and three on the tree. He kept it from new until '81 (it finally rusted out too much to pass state inspection), when he bought a jade green Malibu wagon, 229 V6/3 speed manual on the floor. He then had a Celebrity wagon, but it was a V6/auto, I believe. He's still driving once in a while at 93, he has a '92 Lumina Euro sedan.
  2. Took mummy out for lunch yesterday, stopped by the Chevy dealer to show her the Cruze. She says it's a cute little thing. She likes it better than the Fiesta. And she thinks it's smaller than the Cobalt. She's gotta be off her meds.
  3. Shoot, the '59 was the first year for what we now call a traditional, split Pontiac grille. It went away for one year since, 1960, and even then, the split is incorporated into the grille, with its V-shaped standout center section. I've always preferred the '60 Pontiac to the '59 because it's so cleeeean, a rarity that early in the 60's.
  4. Oh if only I could afford it, 66, I'd do it. Local dealer has 3 new Jettas as of today. I have to agree with those that say it is handsome in person, with interesting details. I do not see a problem with the interior. It is still VW buttoned-down. Love the heated, perforated leatherette seats. You can tell the rear passenger area is stretched looking at the body. The apparent legroom when you look inside proves it. And a VW Jetta has traditionally had a nice size trunk.
  5. Odd and kinda funny to see the deployed airbags under the hood of the green '59 Pontiac. I guess the technology was there before they found a useful reason for it.

Five hundred seventy-two cubic inches of Chevrolet Big Block power... wouldn't fit under the stock hood.
  9. Well, I don't think that trim piece for the quarter window with landau top that was on before the transformation would look right on the metal top. I do agree about the lack of trim, though. A roll of 1/4" "chrome" trim on a roll would work in this case.
  10. Is it possible there's a ground issue causing at least some of your electrical problems? Maybe there's a ground for your cluster that is loose or corroded? It may not be an internal fault in the cluster. Is there any place you can find a wiring schematic for your car online? If so, I'd check all the grounds. I'd take the dome light bulb(s) out if it causes issues driving at night. And carry a can of gas in your car until you can get your fuel gauge diagnosed.
  11. Good reporting, Viper. I might go lot cruising today and see if the local dealer has one. I can't wait for the Jetta Coupe to arrive. That's the one I am most interested in.

No, Bozo The Clown. It was apparently built by an older gentleman who had the time and money to accomplish something classically American. It's what's known as a "sleeper", for the uninitiated. It's real, and it's spectacular.
