  1. You all know that the Cruze isn't exactly my thing, but I'm seeing plenty in traffic and the car stands out from the crowd of plain vanilla. So, good for GM! Now show me something new.
  2. I find it interesting, and see potential in it.
  3. Noted that.
  4. Found out that my uncle has a tire machine (and two half-decent 15" tires that needed a mission) over the holiday, so I now have two better rollers for the Vette. And some old tires to get rid of.
  5. Well, using the general description of "70s cars" really is a bit misleading. There is a huge gulf between early 70s and late 70s. That said, even the cars of the butt-end of the decade could be easily made into something that performed. They also had better brakes and handling than the legends that they displaced. The 70s were a time of great upheaval in the car world.
  6. Both Monza and Vega were darlings of NHRA Pro Stock in their time. Always liked the Monza, and wanted to build a drag car from one during high school (well, that and a "box" Nova).
  7. '68 C10 with a 230cid six was my primary experience with three-on-the-tree. I always parked it in reverse in its spot in the driveway. One day, as I put it into reverse and shut it down, the shifter came off in my hand. It was a real WTF? moment. Our '65 Chevelle wagon also started life as a column-shifted 3spd - but with overdrive! I never drove it that way though, as my dad converted it to a floor shift before putting it on the road. The overdrive made that car alot of fun to drive.
  8. Meh, we've all felt rage and acted under its influence. Or, more likely, reacted. Like it or not, it's part of being human.
  9. Rage happens. Justified, or not.
  10. Good info, thanks.
  11. Thanks guys, it was a good day.
  12. Thanks! Got to go put some tires on some rims... Back later.
  13. My nephew finished the video for me today as a birthday present - Thanks, Dylan! <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OhQQ7ZVy3KM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. Were the early Nova six-bangers? The SS badge never tells the whole story as the details vary from model to model, and year to year. That said, the 283 was a great little V8! ...and the PG a drag racing staple.
  15. This gorgeous Studebaker was there, stunning in every way - the pic doesn't do it justice: http://www.bangshift.com/gallery/Geezers-at-the-grove-2010-gallery.html A gallery of pics from last year's event is here: http://www.bangshift.com/gallery/Geezers-at-the-grove-2010-gallery.html I see a few other cars that were there today, I hope they do the same for this year on that site as there were a ton of other amazing cars there. There is sure to be a pic of the crazy rat rod.
  16. A pic of one of the Tempest wagons is here: http://www.bangshift.com/assets/images/news/2009/Sep/27-30/moody%20blue.png The Ford in the background was there too.
  17. Should really have brought my camera. 409 Chevys? check Pintos? check Vegas? check AMXs? check Pontiac Catalina? check Vettes of all vintages? check A 1950 Chevy sedan Delivery? check A Falcon sedan Delivery? check Ford Anglias? check A Willys pickup? check Tempest wagon racecars doing sub-9 second runs? check Front engine dragsters, fuel altereds, and funny cars? Check, check, and check A radical, low to the ground, patina-laden, Chrysler Firepower Hemi-driven, hellhound of a genuine rat rod? check
  18. Had a good time. Lotsa fun, lotsa sun, and lotsa cool rides. A '71 454SS Camino ran three times and got faster every time (low 12s the last run).
  19. Vintage drag racing at Maple Grove. I tried to do this last year, but it didn't work out. So, it was very cool to get the invite in my voicemail as soon as I got off the tractor for the day. Should be big fun.
  20. This is one of the race cars I used to wrench on. I always liked this one - it has some of its race history engraved in stealthy places. Someone scrawled the names of race tracks and dates along the way on panels you only see from the inside, or when opening a door etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Austin-Healey-1956-Austin-Healey-100-4-Race-Car-SCCA-Race-Ready-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem231209c4e4QQitemZ150626485476QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks%23v4-37
  21. Well, one thing's for sure, GM had better start serving every niche it can think of.
  22. An even better post.
