  1. The AR rims are still in the plan - just not in the winter. I'm going to swap the All-Terrain T/As onto the original steelies and get some less agressive tires for the AR rims. Got the caps, they aren't perfect but they'll do nicely for $35.
  2. My first car was a '66 Coronet.
  3. And I am not going to feel sorry for you!
  4. Just arranged to buy a set of original hubcaps for the Mothertruck, should be picking them up tomorrow morning.
  5. Pretty damn cool. I can't think of a better fate for those ugly 4-door Wranglers. I wish GM did stuff like this.
  6. This is a huge point, and the lesson GM should learn from the HHR. Hell, even I like it, a FWD car! Make it interesting, and the buyers will appear.
  7. Well Hyper, I'm not denying the origins of the HHR (I read the same press releases you did). But, we all know how powerful perception is in the car business, and the perception the HHR inspires is not a retro one. And that's not a bad thing. It's just a cool design. I do agree on the name thing.

    Finally!

A nice day. Clear blue sky, low humidity, and a nice breeze. What summer ought to be.
  9. Much more rare. Real EC SS454 cars are quite rare, but a Sprint 454SP is an order of magnitude moreso. According to the ad, there were only 35 built for '72. I can't vouch for that number, but I do know that in '71 only 25 cars were built.
  10. One of the local PDs used those as undercover cars - that could explain it. Certainly, GM never put a "COPO" sticker on anything.
  11. Umm, no. Hyper-rarity trumps condition. And, it comes with the original engine as well as a good rear clip - the price is right on.
  12. I really miss driving it.
  13. HHR barely has passing resemblence to the old Suburban it was allegedly inspired by. I think it has its own unique look - something that I appreciate in any car.
  14. The COPO moniker on the Vega requires some serious explaining. My guess? It's just a bit of creativity on the owner's part. AFAIK, no such animal ever existed.
  15. For GMC, opportunity is knocking... let's hope someone answers the door.
  16. I wondered how long it would take you to find this, Hyper.
  17. I remember my parents having some like that - but I think they were another brand.
  18. Easily. I'd snag it if I could.
  19. Would I take a Ute with GMC badges? Yeah, but that doesn't make the decision to give it to GMC a smart one on GM's part. The whole world would call it an El Camino anyway - no matter what GM's marketing people dream-up to promote it as a GMC. And that's just a stupid battle to fight. Utes aside, it seems that we all agree on the direction GMC should move in. That's pretty amazing for the crowd here at C&G. I think they should start with a GMC version of the Hummer HX - it was one of the most creative concepts to come from GM in the last decade. Had the economy not taken a dump, it may well have been the saviour of the Hummer brand. It deserves a new life as a GMC. And yes, Chevy should keep their grubby hands off of it. It is the sort of vehicle that could sell extremely well and build a true identity and loyal following for GMC. It would be lots of fun to see the Jeep Wrangler get one-upped.

  21. To be fair, GMC did get unique product over the years, and was used to showcase new technology. It just wasn't done consistently enough, or comprehensively enough to create a real GMC trait from it. I could have been, and should become, GMC's brand identity. But they still shouldn't be the brand to get the Ute! Dammit!

    TV

Haven't been on dialup for a long time.
  23. Nice stuff! And I hear you on the unique benefits of unusual cars.
  24. No offense MDM, but wouldn't give you ten bucks for that - let alone 10 grand.

    TV

My dropping TV really isn't all that radical - I've gone over a year without one before (pre-internet). And yeah, used TVs are hard to avoid - I've already had one given to me. I do like the fact that I have never purchased a TV or VCR in my life, and hope I can keep it that way.
