  1. I hope that's how it works out.
  2. Sort of pathetic, no matter how you look at it.
  3. Something of a microcosm of our society today, wouldn't you say? Hardlines and hard feelings all around.
  4. I guess I've seen too many CSI re-runs, but this could have been a murder-suicide. If a "trained CHP officer" couldn't figure out putting the car into nuetral... Well, sad no matter how it happened.
  5. The fill plug is threaded into the side of the housing and can (usually) be unscrewed using a 3/8" extension stuck into the square recess in the center and a rachet. Tried the best penetrant I know of (a GM item BTW), to no avail. I guess I'll have a shop use a torch to get it out eventually. As for flipping it, I really don't have much choice. If I did...
  6. It just occurred to me that this could have been intentional...
  7. The pics aren't really worth the effort to host and post.
  8. It's been a problem (on occassion), but as long as there is a leash on it - NBD.
  9. If There is a "nuetral lockout", then I'd have to blame Toyota. Lacking that, the driver just panicked and kept his foot on the brakes until they were gone instead of doing something that works. Sad and tragic, but this one is all on the driver.
  10. Driver failure/error, and that's all there is to it. I'd love to lay this one at Toyota's door, but the driver panicked and did not handle the situation in what is an obvious way by putting the car into nuetral. Just a few months ago, I experienced a stuck throttle in my wagon due to a broken throttle return spring. I had just punched the gas for some rapid accelleration and it stuck when I lifted my foot. I had the car in nuetral without a concious thought in a split second. I then managed to kick the RPMs down by tapping at the pedal. I put the car in gear and lightly tapped the Rs back up a bit and used it as cruise control to get home. At no time was the car out of my control.
  11. I've missed your writing, Longtooth... all that it says, and doesn't say. You paint a fine picture with simple words, and I enjoy that.
  12. Awesome.
  13. I am reminded of an old Asimov story in which no one knows how to perform simple math anymore without the help of hand-held computers. One guy figures it out and becomes famous for his "talent". When people let knowlege and skills become extinct, it diminishes us all collectively. I seem to be a rarity these days, I remember phone numbers, give effective directions and write in cursive... I guess that is just one more way that I clash with current sensibilities.
  14. Possible, I guess. Anyway, I can't imagine a Lotus 7 with an LS3! They weigh nothing and are soooo small. The one I've been working on this year is so tight that I can barely wedge myself into it, and I'm not a big guy. Thie thing is fast with a tiny 4cyl Ford engine, it would be downright scary with an LS powerplant.
  15. Most definitely, full-time 4wd was never a good idea. It wore parts terribly and killed fuel economy, only a dedicated AWD system works well enough in those categories to be viable. The domestics toyed with full-time 4WD in the 70s, and it was a real loser - many of those vehicles were converted to part-time.
  16. That thought has crossed my mind. Even so, the front diff has only seen a tiny percentage of the use the rear has.
  17. Nothing wrong with S-10s, but a real Blazer would be much better. I bought one. :AH-HA_wink:
  18. You've done an exceptional job with this car! Very, very, nice.
  19. If I'm actually writing (lyrics, poetry, prose, etc.) I always write in cursive. It is the fastest way from my brain to the page. Lists and short notes I sometimes print, but any real writing I do in cursive. If my typing skills were any good, I would probably write with my keyboard but I'm way too slow.
  20. Yeah, what a PITA! I ended up doing it the very hard way - through the breather tube. It was like trying to force honey through the world's slowest funnel, it took hours to get 2.5 quarts into the damned thing. But it's done, and a quck test drive says everything works. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
  21. Disaster! New rear is installed, but the fill plug will not come out of the housing so I can't fill it with gear oil! I'm so pissed!
  22. Hope its been a great one, Cort!
  23. Knee-deep in this project now, the old rear is out and the new one should be in in a few hours. Taking a dinner break. Pics later.
  24. Well, I'm upgrading from a broken rear to one that isn't. But no, I'm sticking with the Dino oil since the replacement rear is a '97. As for the front, why fix what isn't broken?
  25. Today was an American car day. I drove west and north away from suburbia and Philly, and you could watch the mix of cars shift from import to domestic with each mile. Saw 4 new Camaros (three on a lot one of which was being shown to a customer) and one on the road. The Dodge store I passed had 2 Challengers right up front and the road was filled with domestic pickups. It was a good day.
