  1. If any of you think that a non-V8 Corvette has a snowball's chance in hell, you are smoking some very bad stuff and should go directly to the ER.
  2. All of this wasted time and effort is making me so weary... If done when and how it should have been, GM could have ridden the surge in popularity of RWD in recent years. In fact, I believe they could have solidified that popularity in public perception. Opportunity lost - mostly due to lousy decision-making and plodding, half-hearted effort.
  3. I feel I need to clarify something here: My dislike for Pelosi isn't a partisan thing, I simply feel that she is underqualified and dangerous as speaker. Also, a swing back to the Republican side isn't what I hope for. I hope for the realization of the grave nature of our current crisis to settle into the psyche of each and every office holder. They need to see just how deep the hole we are in really is. Extremists like Pelosi are hopeless in that regard.
  4. Note the bolded text in this quote. You'll just have to accept that some of us simply don't buy that thinking - not for a minute. And no, the remaining brands cannot fill Pontiac's shoes.
  5. China doesn't understand the importance of, nor does it respect, the concept of intellectual property. This will bite them in the ass, later if not sooner. No ground can be given on this front. In fact, the rest of the world needs to demand better protection for intellectual property as a counter initiative. They've been stealing it wholesale for years.
  6. The only hope is that they are overstepping their authority and supposed "mandate". A backlash will come - I just hope it is strong enough.
  7. Pelosi needs to be removed - yesterday.
  8. We are "doing it wrong" and have been for decades. I said many years ago that the car as we know it would disappear in my lifetime, I just didn't expect it to happen so soon and suddenly. Can we change all of this? I hope so, but it is a pale hope.
  9. Maybe, the devil would be in the details. My first choice would always be to have it come as a Chevy El Camino - it really is a no-brainer. I also doubt GM's ability to do justice to the Denali XT anytime soon, and a half -assed version (straight badge job) would be a waste of time , money, and effort. If they do the Denali XT, they should do it right. So, expect them to announce it as a GMC badge job.... and then cancel it at the last minute.
  10. That Lark could be a bit later than '62, I'm guessing that the puke green thing is a '74ish Lotus, and the concept looks like something from an Italian design house circa '85 ish... Maybe a Citroen badged styling exercise?
  11. We told these dumb asses how to do this right years ago (before the GTO even got here) with the Chevelle Project, wouldn't it be ironic if they finally get it right after angering and alienating so many of us? Bunch of desk-bound fools!
  12. Pontiac
  13. I don't mess with the pesticides - that's really a specialty in the industry. That said, they are probably ants or termites (kings and queens) in a mating swarm. I'd bet that they will be gone in a day or two.
  14. Thanks for all of the comments, especilly those by Ocn, Balthazar, and BV. Combine the input of those three posts, and you'll better understand where my head is on this. Cars are in my blood, always have been. And I've always loved old cars while keeping an eye on something new worth owning. Both have their advantages and appeal to me equally. Until today, there was always a viable hope that when I was ready, GM would be there with at least one product I'd lay down the cash for. Mind you, more often than not over recent years, it was only one product. But still, they always had something for me. Today changed all of that. Without Pontiac, those future cars I might hope for have all vanished. Someday, maybe, Chevy will build something I'd want- if they survive. I'll consider it then. The other brands hold no interest for me, and rarely have in the past. Today Chevy is an econo-brand and Pontiac is dead, leaving me little reason to care about GM. And, I can't in good conscience continue to help run a site dedicated to GM's future feeling the way I do. Shadow Dog is right, I would color all new model news with negativity that might not be fair. I'm not willing to do that. Not when I no longer believe in GM's ability to right the ship. I just need to step back and be a spectator now. I've fought the good fight, made lots of friends and contacts, learned more than I should have about both GM and the car business in general, and made my voice heard. Now I'd like to take a breath and ignore the latest news for a while. I want to concentrate on other things and enjoy the part of the hobby that I still can. Hopefully this post will explain things a bit better than the hasty one this morning did. And yes, I'll still be around now and then.
  15. Thanks for the confidence, Roger.
  16. Too late for that, guys. There is nothing left at GM that interests me. I admit that I need the break, but afterward nothing will have changed on the GM front. One can only be punched in the face so many times...
  17. Holden doesn't deserve this treatment.
  18. Honestly, I wish I shared your optimism.
  19. I don't believe that they will.
  20. And I'm glad you are - there just isn't anything left for me now. If GM builds something that works for me in the future, I'll give it a fair shake. But I'm done cheering for the company itself now.
  21. If Holden/zeta were here, there would still be something left to care about. Lacking that...
  22. Have one, don't want the other.
  23. What we are looking at here is a slow motion bankruptcy - the agony will be dragged out as long as possible, but nothing will be left at the end.
