  2. I'd prefer the two-pronged approach. EDIT: The multiple bodystyle concept gives me some hope that someone with a brain is actually working on this. Kudos for that!
  3. The fate of the Sky is really a minor detail. I would say that this decision ought to be based on the reality GM finds itself in after the shape of the restructure is known. If Pontiac stays, the Sky should probably disapppear.
  4. PR and advertising. Awareness and reinforcement. A concerted effort to drive the sheep.

  7. It has nothing to do with the car. It's that corporate infighting silliness between Holden and GME that he was part of. It was GME's mission to hurt this car any way they could. Pathetic and absurd. Holden is the last corner of GM to know how to do things right, and the G8 proves it. This makes PCS mad.
  8. "Interesting" would be an understatement, I suspect. With all of the obstacles to step around, I fear a plan born of commitee. All of the constituencies addressed, but none of the real problems...

  12. In the last two days I've seen two very clean 944s. Prior to that I haven't seen one for ages.
  13. The sad truth is that the Caddy actually looks better than this thing.
  14. I just see it as a way for GM to keep something in its back pocket for later. It won't look so gutted that way.
  15. So think of it like this (just a hypothetical), Buick stays and keeps Enclave and the new Lacrosse and Pontiac stays and keeps G8 and Solstice. Both are simply marketed well and incrementally improved over the next few years while GM sorts out the rest of its business. The biggest investment might be adding a model variant to an existing line. At that point, a less rash approach to the future could be taken using improved brand equity. It could solidly place both brands well above Chevrolet. If it doesn't work, so be it - the costs would be tiny. Not something that would have impeded Chevy and Cadillac in any way.

  18. Seems more sensible to keep them around in a niche role than dreaming of a later resurrection. Take out the costs in the restructuring, and focus on building one or two "perfect" Buicks and Pontiacs. Best of both worlds that way
  19. One difference this time though, this time the product was right from the start - not so much the corporation that produced it.

  23. All your quips aside, the reality is that the G8 is more American in intent than anything short of a full-size pickup and more European in execution than any other sport sedan not built there.
  24. It most certainly is an American musclecar, its just screwed together in Australia. And, the most important component of a musclecar (the engine) is built right here. The configuration, proportions, and styling certainly fit that of a European sport sedan - so BS to you on that as well, PCS. You just hate the fact that so many people love this car.
