There were big block Chevelle wagons before '73. Yes, you could get a 454 in a Chevelle/El Camino until '75. The SS Chevelle was still available in '73, supplanted by the Laguna after that. But the El Camino SS continued uninterrupted through the rest of its production. In fact, in '73 (and only in '73) you could have purchased a 454 SS Chevelle wagon.

GM's problems all stem from the constant shifting of their game plan and an idiotic focus on single "magic bullet" approaches instead of using their size and brand structure to offer a Variety of approaches to the automobile. Keep this variety in production at all times and shift quantities from one type to another as the market shifts, and you won't keep getting caught flat-footed the way GM always does. You can't just sell half a dozen versions of a full-size truck and 47 versions of FWD sedans and expect anyone to care. It's so flipping basic, and they used to do it better than anyone. What the hell is wrong with these guys?

Bunk! GM blew it with Zeta: too little and a decade too late. Too many delays. Too much indecision. Too many course changes. Too many name changes. And now, to add insult to injury, they toss Zeta aside while completely ignoring the fact that it can meet the goals that it would need to to remain relevant in the market. Nothing but bold new product will ever save GM, and yet they toss this wonderful potentail aside in favor of the same old bland crap no one has wanted for decades. And yes, I'm pissed about it.

Very cool to see these pics. A bright spot in dark times. Cars like that embody freedom - something we should all celebrate. Same for the Camaro and the Mustang. May there always be at least a few of the like on the market.

I came very close to buying one of these that was a factory 396 car back when I was a kid. This auction makes me wish I had. I'd love to find a factory Big-block Chevelle wagon.

The most important post in this thread. It's time to end oil's control over our economy, by bringing forward competition for it in the marketplace as fast as humanly possible.

I'm really glad to see so many taking this situation seriously, and I'll have much more to say on the matter when I'm not dead tired. I really do believe that it is essential that we begin to examine the fundamental things within our society - what it is supposed to be as well as what the current reality actually is. We've strayed... badly.
