  1. No one's buying the MKS because the Taurus is almost as good for a much lower price. And Ford sells plenty of SHO models.
  2. Actually, with >400 HP and >400 lb-ft, this new engine is aimed squarely at the 550i (400, 450, 15/22-23 mpg), the E550 (402, 443, 16/26 mpg), and the S6 (420, 406, 17/27). Biggest difference is that the Germans have forced-induction V8s, and the CTS will have a V6TT that pretty much matches everyone in power and FE. The LLT is still the 535i/E350/A6 3.0T competitor. I suppose you could look at it that way...and GM went w/ the TT V6 because they don't have a DOHC V8 available. Well, that's how it's gonna be. It wouldn't make much sense comparing a 300/300 engine (535i) with a 420/430 engine (CTS). True about the DOHC V8... but then we get into the debate about whether to use the LTx instead.

  4. To Camino's point, you know what would be great to see? Some numbers with the LT1 mated with the 8AT. Then we could see which configuration was superior, performance- and economy-wise. Unfortunately, we won't see that until the next Camaro comes out, so we have to wait.
  5. http://www.truecar.com/prices-new/mercedes-benz/s-class-pricing/ Looks like V12s and AMGs are the only models whose ATPs are above invoice.
  6. Let's not forget that MB fleets rather heavily in the home continent. But even still, I agree that Lexus won't be taking any sales crowns there anytime soon.
  7. 1972-ish Chevy Nova SS. Unfortunately, it was riding on wheels too big for its body.

    How Come...

That will buff right out. Wait, what?
  9. Granted, Moltie, but because of the odd numbers they've been behind Lexus since the last LS. Meanwhile, Lexus, Audi, and BMW are on par with one another. For what it's worth, anyway. I have a feeling that anything past 8 will be overkill, both in the Dart and in the S-Class.
  10. Well a fridge is an option, maybe in model year two there will be a hamburger press and grill option. I am actually disappointed on one thing though, it looks like the 7-speed transmission will carry over, I thought the 9-speed would be ready at launch. I guess time will tell. I also wish the convertible was a 4-door, that would be epic, but a 2-door is better than none at all. I think I'll wait until the MCE. Holding out for either a hibachi or a smoker. RE: the transmissions, I read that they finally paired the 7-speed to the V12, so they may want to get some mileage out of that. Question though... ever wonder why Mercedes and Infiniti have skipped the even number of gears though? They've both used 5, and then when everyone went to 6, those two companies went to 7.
  11. Driving to campus today, saw a car (maybe 300 feet away) that reminded me of a Maserati from the front and a Jaguar from the back. Turns out it was a Tesla Model S. Property of a professor or an administrator, I'm certain.
  12. 6 fragrances and hot stone massage? Reminds me of what they do in Japan to produce Kobe beef.
  13. Non-manual 4cyl Accord = CVT. Instant deal-breaker. (Same with all trims of the Altima, which is a shame.) If you want a Fusion that "wouldn't catch fire," there's always the 2.0T which was unaffected by the recall.
  14. Good news: you finally offloaded that piece of trash. (The Cimarron or the ex-wife, you wonder? The answer's yes. )
  15. I always chuckle when some months bring out the buyers of the new cars that have been discontinued for 2 model years.
  16. The KL is CUSW (read: Dart) based, so base models will be front-wheel drive and probably feature some variation of the Tigershark four-cylinder, I believe. Upmarket versions will feature the 3.2 liter version of the Pentastar six, and will be all-wheel drive. I've heard from one source the all-wheel drive models may feature some form of an actual transfer case. Wow, that's just awful news. Makes this thing one big pile of suck. As I recall, the last gen small CUVs from Jeep (Patriot and Compass) coexisted because of results from focus groups. Women preferred the styling of the Compass, while men preferred the Patriot. Also, at launch, only the Patriot was "Trail Rated." So Jeep decided to make both to please everybody. The Cherokee appears to be a fusion of the two... that went terribly, horribly wrong.
  17. Seems to me that got lost with the Compass... What he said.
  18. I'm driving one this week as a rental. Gonna post a review of it?
  19. Saw an Infiniti JX downtown today. Wasn't all that thrilled about it.
  20. Way to pour cold water on Ocn's moment, Moltie...
  21. spend how much to certify, advertise, and distribute a car that only 300 people would buy (without an automatic)? They would have to price it at 50k to make up for the 20k in marketing costs each car would bear just to get the word out. Utter nonsense! If offered, the manual would account for nearly half of sales. This is a limited production performance car, and the intended market wants the manual. GM did learn (through G8 and Camaro sales) that it doesn't make sense to import a v6 version, but they seem to have missed the memo on the manual transmission. While opinion is divided on the styling, the desire for a manual is overwhelming - just scan around enthusiast sites (the target market). This car is meant to be an enthusiast's car, so the normal dumbing-down to an automatic is exactly the wrong way to sell it. As for marketing, those who want the car already know about it.. And with expected volumes of 3-5000 per year acceptable to Mark Reuss, how much advertising do you need for a car that makes its own news? You have to understand performance cars and performance car buyers - the usual sheeple coddling doesn't apply. Of course, in order to support your statements, you have to make the assumption that enthusiasts and performance car buyers ONLY drive manuals. That's far from true.
  22. Why are we now talking about Cadillac and freakin' Mercedes in a Chevrolet thread??? Focus, people.
