    No idea about the frames, but here in salty Cleveland I've seen plenty of 10-15yr old GM pickups with serious cab and bed rust rolling around...

    The current A hatchback is like 169 inch length..I assume the new A regular length sedan is 2.4 inches shorter than the L, so 178.6 inches or thereabouts..

    I wonder what Toyota calls their current grille theme...'angry fish' would be appropriate. They use it on several models now.

    A bit pricey, but there is nothing 'luxury' about a compact FWD transverse 4cyl econobox w/ 134 or 161 hp--that's low, common, generic and fecal IMO.

    Not sure if I'd call it floating, but it's not an integrated design, just a flat tablet-like screen stuck against the dash. Boring I'd assume it's roomier w the longer wheelbase, that's the point of a longer wheelbase. China likes bigger rear seat areas since they often have drivers.

    Well, it's just a FWD 4cyl compact lease appliance...think Cruze/Jetta/Focus/etc w/ a fancier badge. Yeah, the 'coupe' roofline and decklid of the CLA makes the body longer...

    Where are you getting that it's the same length as the CLA? The article says the wheelbase is 2.4 inches longer than the regular A class (current CLA has the same wheelbase as the A class hatchback). The new A class hatchback has a wheelbase 1.1 inches longer than the current A class. No idea how the next CLA will be sized. 2.4 inches longer wheelbase. To clarify the realities--the new A-class hatchback and sedan have a 107.4 inch wheelbase, the China-only L has a 109.8 inch wheelbase. The current gen CLA has a 106.3 inch wheelbase. Presumably, there will be a 2nd gen CLA coming, and NA will get one of the A-class sedans.

    So it's M-Bs answer to the Corolla, Civic, Cruze, Fusion, Jetta, etc. 4cyl FWD appliance. So will NA get the regular wheelbase or the long wheelbase? Note the article said this is the long wheelbase 'L' model, so more rear leg room.

    Yes, but those people are imbeciles and should be ignored. The living in the past crowd will always bring up Chrysler's past issues, though.

    Yeah, some people are never able see beyond past issues.. it's like I know Chrysler made some absolutely dreadful cars in the late 70s and 80s, but that's long in the past and literally a different company than it is today.

    I'm sure if they do build this it will be toned down...normal rear window probably. I realized looking at the pics that in profile it kind of resembles the roof of one of the Bentley sedans set further back on a thicker body with larger wheels and ride height..

    Maybe they could move production to North Korea..probably a lot cheaper than the South.

    Well, I was talking in terms of reality. Old Suburbans are very basic trucks, not luxury vehicles. Albeit the Maybach is just a concept at this point, but I'm sure they will produce something pretty ritzy..

    The Maybach would be way more comfortable to ride in, though..those old Burbans were very, very plain inside.

    Those Suburbans were very basic and functional, though. Now imagine though a '50s Cadillac Escalade based off of them...that would be a cool custom to build. '50s Cadillac styling and amenities applied to a Suburban of that era.

    True, but that was an anomaly..I was thinking of the mass of CUVs and SUVs we have today, esp. the luxury ones. Yeah, those 40s DeSotos and Chrysler were hideous lumps, IMO..it wasn't until the 1955 Forward Look era that Chrysler Corp. had good looking cars, IMO...

    Well, there weren't SUVs as we know them today back then--American cars were tall, narrow lumpy blobs that all looked the same generally back then (think of the 42-48 GMs, the Chrysler products of that era, Fords). It's funny, but I do think (as we've talked about in other threads) a future niche will be the SUV-sedan or CUV-sedan...

    Was $2.65 for regular unleaded up off I-90 near the OH-PA line on Saturday when I filled up.

    Saw a rough gold 67 LeMans 4dr ht from a distance on Saturday.

    Almost saw 2 collisions at the same intersection within an hour. On my way out to get some pho, sitting in the left turn lane--light is green but no arrow..the Mustang in front of me is being cautious...as the light is changing to red, the asshat in a white Yukon behind me (3rd in line), pulls into the through lane beside me, goes around both vehicles and makes a left....an hour later, going through the same intersection in the opposite direction, I see a rusty Trailblazer out in the middle of the intersection trying to go left, with a Equinox behind them honking at them to go (green w/o arrow, I think)...they both finally go, as the left turn on my side of the intersection gets the green arrow...minivan pulls out, slams on the brakes and horn as it barely clears the Equinox... Other than that, enjoying a sunny 75 degree day..driving around w/ the windows open, sunroof open, enjoying the smell of fresh cut grass. Saw a '72-73 Dodge D-series pickup in traffic this afternoon, longbed, orange w/ a cap and white Dodge script on the tailgate. Solid shape, paint faded.. also saw a very clean dark red '77-79 Continental 4dr.

    I didn't realize the new Defender was going to be unibody..the classic Defender was body on frame, and had previously been offered in single and double cab versions in certain markets like the UK. The Defender was always one of the most serious and hard core of 4x4s, sounds like they are trying to make it another luxury CUV, which seems pointless as they have all the Range Rover models..

    Yeah, Rover did also from the 60s into the 80s...2000, 2200, 3500, etc

    Trying to think of examples were the engine size was expressed in CCs in the model name or badging..weren't the early Vegas badged as Vega 2300? And the Cadillac 4.1 was badged as HT 4100. Seems like the truck makers would latch onto CC badging....6200 sounds bigger and more macho than 6.2.
