If pickups can get away with notchback rooflines because of their oversized open trunks, sedans can also.. Maybe the solution is to put trunk lids on pickups and call them sedans. It is funny if you think about it, the most popular trucks of today essentially are high riding full size V8 4dr sedans with big trunks.

Lincoln News: Lincoln Planning to Add Suicide Doors To Continental
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
Yes, mechanically simple for the most part. I like the blocky 80s Town Cars, 90-97 ones (there was one trim w/ white leather and blue that I like in particular), the final generation 03+, and the 60s-70s biggies...- 67 replies

Lincoln News: Lincoln Planning to Add Suicide Doors To Continental
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
A used German car out of warranty is a gateway to madness and bankruptcy. My sister learned her lesson with not one but two used Mercedes, and I had enough direct/indirect dealings with those money pits never to consider one again. Now an older Lincoln I wouldn't mind as a weekend toy. But for a daily driver, only something modern and under warranty.- 67 replies

I wonder why they would do an all new 2.0. What would be the point.

Lincoln News: Lincoln Planning to Add Suicide Doors To Continental
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
The picture may be bogus, notice how jagged the seam between the doors is right above the handles. Here is a clear photo of a Model X, don't see any of the trim anomalies. Anyway, the Falcon doors on the Model X seem pointlessly complex; 'suicide' doors are less complex, but still pointless, IMO.- 67 replies

GM already has a 2.0 turbo 4. Isn't this the same thing already in many GM models ? Odd that it would be 237hp in the XT4, since it is already 250-275 hp in other models. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Ecotec_engine#LTG

I don't follow college basketball much, but am a fan of the U of M since I went there for grad school. It's weird, my high school, college, and grad school all have the same colors--blue and gold/yellow (or maize as they call it at the U of M).

Speaking of CUVs w/ manuals, my local Jeep dealer has 116 new Compasses listed as in stock. 2 have manuals (both Sport trim). Oddly, some of the automatics are listed as 6-spd and some as 9-spd.

Looks like the newest generations of Volvos have figured out how to hide the radar behind the grille.

Looks like most domestic brands will have between 5 and 7 CUVs and SUVs in the near term. Will we hit peak CUV/SUV in 2020 or thereabouts? Will the US automakers hop on the CUV coupe bandwagon? From the bottom to the top for each brand: Ford: Ecosport, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition SWB and LWB. With the Bronco in there somewhere. Lincoln: MKC, Nautilus, Aviator, Navigator SWB and LWB. (I wonder what the MKC will be renamed to? Capri would be good, was a long ago Lincoln name). Chevy: Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban. With the rumored Blazer in there somewhere. GMC: Terrain, Acacia, Yukon, Yukon XL Buick: Encore, Envision, Enclave Cadillac: XT4, XT5, Escalade SWB and LWB. With maybe an XT3 and XT7 coming? Dodge: Journey and Durango. Will be interesting to see what comes for Dodge in the future...maybe a Ram based full-size? A Journey replacement? Jeep: Renegade, Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee. Plus the Wrangler in it's own niche, and maybe a smaller model for Europe, and the rumored Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer full sizers?

Though it's not as bad as the weird trend of mixing normal front door handles with odd rear door handles, IMO...that I really don't like..the first 4dr Pathfinder in the 80s was the first I recall doing that, several cars and CUVs do it today..just seems like being different for the sake of being different... I love those '70s Continentals...

Reminds of the door handle placement on the '70-71 Continental. Having the rear door handle above the front one always looks awkward from some angles.

Yeah, it's one of my go-to local Italian places. Also went to their clam bake last fall and Thanksgiving brunch. Very tasty food. Their pasta sauces are available in the local groceries also.

Toyota News: 2019 Toyota Yaris Sedan Drops the iA
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
The story for creating Scion IIRC was to have a brand to appeal to 20-somethings...the young buyers weren't really going for Toyotas in the early oughts.- 39 replies

The Forester isn't bad in profile, but the front end is so dull.

I hope we see more Sport Utility Coupes and Sport Utility Convertibles. Perhaps AWD versions of the Mustang and Camaro. Not under the radar like the Challenger GT, but lifted like the Volvo Cross Country, like modern Eagle coupes. An AWD Challenger w/ Jeep-like ground clearance would be cool. Not going to happen, but I'd like to see more bold, out-there ideas come to fruition rather than the same old, same old..

Item: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
One year mark on the Jeep coming up this Saturday. Took it in for an oil + filter change, air filter, cabin air filter, tire rotation. Did a UConnect update at home last week. I've put slightly over 10k miles on it in the first year--working from home it sits a lot, and 2000 miles of that was done in 2 days last June. Very happy with my second Jeep. -
At the dealer for service, saw this Trackhawk in the showroom. Sharp. They also have probably 100 Compasses on the lot, a few of the new Wranglers also. On the used section, saw a black Acura TSX wagon. Haven't seen one of those in ages.
-
That's show vehicle pizzaz...and I'm sure the funky rear door shape/cab/bed join would be normalized for production...it's a neat concept otherwise.

The Navigator has the larger three-row RWD BOF SUV niche covered. This is smaller, replaces the MKT. The Nautilus (MKX rebadge) is the two row CUV. It's like how GM has 3 row CUVs (Traverse, Enclave) and 3 row BOF SUVs (Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Escalade). Ford will have the new Explorer, then two lengths of Expedition. Same with Lincoln.
