  1. Maybe studies have shown that people tended to order a group of options like that--order A and B and C together 80% of the time, so it made sense to bundle them. I have seen some odd stuff when going through the online configurators for various models, like certain interior colors requiring specific audio packages, etc.. It would be fun to configure and order a car sometime, I've only ever bought from dealer in-stock selection..usually they've had a big enough selection that I've found one equipped as I want pretty easily.
  2. I assume automakers have changed focus from offering a long list of discrete options to packages to cut costs, simplify, and focus on grouping options that people actually want. For instance, they aren't going to offer stripped down with AM radio, no A/C, manual windows, manual vinyl bench seat to satisfy an infinitesimally small market that would want a car equipped in such a way...
  3. Good to hear...love these ships. I've visited the Queen Mary in Long Beach many times, stayed on it at least 1/2 dozen times (would always stay there when I drove over for the Long Beach Grand Prix).
  4. An Eagle sedan or wagon would be fun to restomod w/ modern Jeep components..
  5. An Escalade w a trunk would outsell all other Cadillac sedans I bet.
  6. I can see having distinct engines on their good stuff like the CT6 or Escalade, but it doesn't really matter on a generic lease appliance like this, IMO...
  7. Woooow...groundbreaking..paradigm shifting...a new niche is being created--the first ever luxury SUV sedan!!!!!!
  8. Turbo 4s are fine for rental cars, wouldn't want to own one. I like NA V6s, quite pleased with the Pentastar V6 in my Jeep..
  9. GM is putting turbo 4s in most everything...
  10. Madness.. keep the Mustang and Camaro as they are. If they want to make sporty SUVs/CUVs, create some new identities.
  11. Stuff like this is a gap filler... sounds like the Lincoln Aviator will have a superior platform, though.
  12. I was behind a rusted out white Chevy minivan this morning--saw a badge on the tailgate I didn't recognize--'Uplander'..completely forgot about that model name, I remembered the 'Venture' that was it's predecessor. I was stuck in traffic yesterday afternoon behind an Impala with the license plate 'STRYCH9'...so maybe the owner was a fan of the band, a fan of the retro jiu-jitsu clothing line, an exterminator or a serial poisoner?
  13. The 8spd is probably a typo...wouldn't make sense to have a 9spd in the Traverse and Enclave but not the Cadillac variation.
  14. Ok, so that would explain why won't see it in the XT*..
  15. I've had mixed results with Goodyears...some of the Wrangler variations I've had were very good and got a long life--IIRC, the OEM Wranglers my '00 GC had went for about 50k miles. The Triple Tread ones were good also. The Forteras, on the other hand, weren't so good...soft and quick wearing. My '14 GC had OEM Forteras that were pretty worn at 32k (I don't think they had been ever rotated--the rears were more worn than the fronts).
  16. I'd assume it will have the same drivetrain as the Traverse/Enclave, 3.6 w/ 9spd auto. Was that 10spd developed for transverse applications?
  17. I think 470 sounds better....I prefer cubic inches on cars up into 70s...until the transition phase when the switchover to liters started. Maybe get some custom period looking '470' badges made? Of course, for every rule there are exceptions--Pontiac, Ford and Mercury started using liters on some models in the 60s. But in tandem with cubic inches. For example, I would say 302 with regards to a '68 Cougar, but with my '87 Mustang, it's a 5.0. Saying 302 when talking about an 80s-90s 5.0 would be a total faux-pas, IMO...or the more modern vehicles I've had...,3.2, 4.0, 4.6, 3.6. I don't even know or want to know the cubic inch equivalents for those--describing them in cubic inches would ring false.
  18. Maybe JdN will land at Genesis...shake up things by moving the HQ from Seoul to Pyongyang and renaming everything to Gen1, Gen2, Gen3 etc... Or land at Jaguar Land Rover, move the HQ from Coventry to Tata's home town of Mumbai, and come up with inane naming schemes...
  19. I still watch F1, but some races are so dull...esp. these new generic tracks and lack of overtaking. .Not as dramatic as it was to watch in the 80s-90s.
  20. I still think M-B should sell the pickup versions of the Sprinter here--in regular and double cab, in work truck, luxury, and AMG variations...would be a cash cow, I think.. make the bed deeper and less homely looking, though.
  21. Yes---smk's 3 points may indeed be: * Sales figures are everything * Mercedes always has something coming that will beat anything current * Mercedes is the standard everyone else is chasing
  22. Yeah, multinational companies doing stuff all over the globe... like my client--established and headquartered in Barbados, offices in Jamaica and several other Caribbean countries, US headquarters in Scottsdale. I took a dull GDPR CBT course yesterday...
  23. Lack of parking discipline drives me crazy... I go out of my way to make sure I'm centered in spots. But some dumbass always seems to park with a tire right on the space boundary line or over it. The long doors of 2drs are part of why I prefer 4drs in general.. especially in parking garages. My favorite parking headache story happened about 15 years ago in Denver. I parked my old Jeep GC in a spot of the 5th floor of my employer's garage. Came out at 5pm, and asshat #1 had parked a Chevy pickup so close to my left side I couldn't have opened the door, and asshat #2 had parked a Aerostar so close on the right I couldn't have opened the passenger door. Had to open the hatch and crawl over the back seat, between the front seats into the driver's seat. Arrggggghhhh
  24. They are still headquartered in France (in Clermont-Ferrand, former home of the French Grand Prix), but have US manufacturing (presumably through the BF Goodrich and Uniroyal acquisitions in '89). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin
  25. Remember, the G is the one that you obsess over the exposed screw heads and other retro exterior trim.
