+1. I never cared for the headlight & grille treatment on the Yukon..always thought it looked funny. As far as the Chevys, I like the Tahoe/Suburban front end more than the Silverado. Though the Silverado front end works well for a truck.

Found on eBay: 1959 Chrylser Imperial Four Door Hardtop
Robert Hall replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Cool...the dark green reminds me of an old diecast toy Imperial I have of that era..one thing I've wondered before about the stainless steel roof on models like this (or the Caddy Eldo in the '80s)--is the outer roof skin SS or is it an SS panel overlaying the regular roof skin (like a vinyl top)? -
Chevrolet Volt Losing Interest With Consumers
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Infrastructure would have to be in place for me to consider one..must be some here, given the Leafs. It would be a big change for me to consider one...the available electric cars are just too small and cramped and limited for me currently... For $45k, I'd rather have something serious w/ RWD and a V8. -
Chevrolet Volt Losing Interest With Consumers
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
2011 Volt was only released in 5 markets and AZ was not one of them. The 2012 rollout is supposed to happen in October all over the country. Contrary to that Leaf was released all over the country. No, it's sold here...there are two on the lot at the local Chevy store now, priced at $45,288. I just haven't seen any on the road other than a wrecked one. -
Chiropractors are the healing fingers of Jesus all over your back. I highly recommend. +1. I've gone to a chiro periodically since my accident in '94 (hard rear-end collision). That and a massage a couple times a month and an ergonomic chair keeps my back and neck in good working order..

Maybe one of the hundreds of very low volume UK cottage industry supercars that appear and dissapear every month?

Chevrolet Volt Losing Interest With Consumers
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Other than a wrecked one on a flatbed, I have yet to see any Volts out in the real world. Yet I see Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) several times a week.. -
Camry or Corolla, for something different.

What's the lamest excuse for buying a crappy car you've ever heard?
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in The Lounge
On the original theme, my Dad used the excuse he needed a tow car for the family motorhomes (like a dinghy) to buy a '77 Vega, then later an '81 Chevette Scooter (most depressing, stripped down car I've ever ridden in), and later an '84 Escort diesel (which was decent and the car I learned to drive in). -

He and his family had gone camping w/ the 'burban and a pop-up trailer, the Eurovan has a pop up roof, a self-contained camper. Last time I talked to him, he was looking at getting a small motorhome and a 4x4 pickup. The 914 was his first Porsche, bought it used in grad school in the 80s, kept it all these years..in really good shape. (Used to be owned by a Brady Bunch cast member also, apparently). -
Saw a pair of bodacious, beautiful topless B-bodies today...both in butterscotch w/ white interiors. A '73 Centurion convertible and a '73 88 convertible. Drool.

i long for the days when "nerds" drove turbo diesel Mercedes Benz wagons, BMW 3-series sedans & the REAL nut-job with a pocket protector would have a Volvo or maybe SAAB 900 "5-door" Heh-heh.. Two of the Prius early adoptor's buddies who I also worked with together at three companies are also some of the most hardcore techies I've had they pleasure of working with (they were mentors to me when I was a young code monkey fresh out of grad school) and are car geeks also---one has 6 vintage GTOs, a '96 Cutlass convertible, an '06 GTO, and an '09 G8 GXP...the other has 3 '70s Porsches (914, '76 911, '78 930 Turbo), a VW Eurovan (which replaced his white '89 Suburban when it eventually died), and recently bought a 1996 911 Carrera 4. -

'It was the geekiest car I could find'. - A buddy of mine (who is a long time software engineer/hardcore UNIX guy) when he bought his 1st gen Prius over 10 years ago. He now has a 3rd gen one. -
I've always liked the '77-79 B- and C- bodies, esp. the Oldses...crisp and clean. Love those red interiors.

Cadillac is a big tease on their New Small Car - ATS teaser shot
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
Like most cars partial photoas are not always smart to pass final judgment on. It always best to see them in person as they take on a whole different look in 3D. The CTS coupe looks odd in photos but in person it pops. cts coupe always looks drop dead gorgeous to me in person when i see one. saw a white one the other day, i was just oogling for a long time. my only CTS coupe complaint is how fat the proportioning of the lower body is......hard to fix without dropping the bottom of the glazing or picking up the bottom of the body a couple inches....... I spent a 1/2 hr or so wandering around the local Caddy store lot last night, checking out and sitting in a dark gray CTS coupe, CTS sedan, wagon, DTS sedan..they had a goregous dark red CTS-v coupe rotating on an outside dias, a silver CTS-v sedan in the showroom, and a black CTS-v wagon in the showroom... -
The Jeep and Merc have been repaired, so the Caddy goes back to Enterprise tommorow..back to normal. I hate overtime, esp. when it's due to management incompetence and poor project planning...don't remember much of July. At least I got paid for every hour and I'm back to normal 40 hr work weeks this coming week..

This kind of situation happened to me once in my life when I was in grad school, but it resolved itself w/ no thought on my part. If it were to happen today, I'd have to go test drive several different cars. The easiest choice for me would be another Grand Cherokee, but there are many cars in the same price range that I find appealing.

Thinking about it.. I want to drive the CTS and Chrysler 300C also. And I'm still fond of the Town Car.
-
Wonder if they will sell it here. Ford should sell the 3dr Fiesta here.

Happy Birthday.

For the last week because of not having a single drivable car in the driveway, I've had a white diamond '11 STS as a rental. Taking it back to Enterprise tommorow. First impressions: Smooth. Quiet. Comfortable. Good exhaust roar when I put my foot down. Like the color combination--white diamond w/ two-tone tan interior. I've always liked the exterior design of the STS, crisp and clean..not as aggro as the CTS, but definitely a Cadillac. This is the first current Caddy I've driven, have driven an '00-02 vintage DTS and a few mid-late '90s era deVilles. Seats are adjustable and comfortable, not sport seats, but wide enough for fat American behinds (my size 40 fit fine). Like the ventilation fans. Easy to adjust seat, wheel, mirrors for comfort and visibility. Thick pillars, but still easy enough to see out of. Multifunction stalks worked well--like how they have the lights on the left, wipeys on teh right, just like my Jeep. Like the struts for trunk hinges instead of the cheap c-hinges so many sedans have. Seemingly small opening, big trunk. A few minor nits to pick: No inside trunk release--odd (Edit: found it, hidden in the map pocket, same color as teh door trim..hard to see) Foot pedal pb took some getting used to, I guess i'm too used to center console pbs..I grabbed the hood release a couple times thinking it was the pb release Some interior plastics are hard...door panels and center console I noticed. Tolerable, though. noticed the emergency flasher button was on console. Odd Stereo seems from 2005...6 disk changer is slow to change between disks. Eject and load is very slow. Sound is great, though. No ipod jack, but white/red/yellow A/V jacks in the armrest..odd..never seen one of those in a car. Some quirks w/ the locks. Example: parked, unlocked all the doors, got out, took my dry cleaning drop-off out of the back, came back 5 min later, front doors were still unlocked, but the rear doors had locked themselves. Maybe it's a setting or something. Positives: Soaks up the miles very well on road trips..very comfortable for hours on the road--freeways, twisties. More than enough power to move around, whether passing slow trucks going uphill at 7000ft elevation, or 90-100mph on the freeway passing a line of trucks. Spent time on freeways, in towns, big cities, suburbia, rural back roads, twisty mountain roads, all over Phoenix/Scottsdale and northern AZ. In rain, sunshine, triple digit heat (great cold A/C), day, night... Did notice a fair amount of tire noise and harshness on rough roads. Sad to see the STS go out of production...the Seville and STS names have a long history with Cadillac. All in all, it's been a thoroughly enjoyable experience...after a week of living w/ it day in day out, this is definitely a car I could use as a daily driver for 5 years or more.

Found on eBay: Because Crumple Zones are for Sissies.
Robert Hall replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Horrific. I could see driving it on my Mom's driveway in Ohio (3/4 of mile long) but not on public roads or streets. -
You liked your Fiesta, why not another of the same?
