Hmmm...I'm 6'0, 240lbs, found the CTS easy to get in and out of...what are you, 6'8" and 500lbs? (j/k).... Huh?? An '82 de Ville is more like 4500-4800 pounds, isn't it? That's a huge car...

Note the past tense...that world is long gone.

Opel/Vauxhall Working On A Insignia Crossover
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
Hmmmm.....could this become the NG Enclave? -
Ahh...missed that.

Maybe it's a 265..those were only built less than 2 years and were rated at a whopping 135hp!

2012 Chevrolet Impala 9C1 version announced

I assume the NG Impala will have a police package also.. (it will be Epsilon II (FWD/V6). -
2012 Chevrolet Corvette Lineup See Their Prices Go Up
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Hmmm...prices rise, but the interior is still from 2005 and the seats still suck? -
Looks like a candidate for the trendy matte black or gray w/ red wheels w/ Mexican blanket over the front seat style...I saw a '60 Coupe de Ville on the freeway done that way last week..always interesting to see a 50+ yr old car in modern traffic. That 4dr flattop greenhouse is so cool..virtually no blindspots. I wonder what a flattop 2dr ht could look like...

Mercedes-Benz Close To A Decision With Maybach
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Maybe they can share platforms, and Aston Martin could build a 6000lb DB10XXL coupe... -
You can turn that off and or program the lock and unlock points (key out, park, etc..) in the settings section of the DIC. There's actually lots of stuff to program in there- even the volume of the turn signal clicking. I figured that was possible...just didn't look into it. My Jeep is like that.

Over the last couple weeks, I've had two Impalas from Alamo for rent..over Memorial Day weekend, 3 days with a white w/ neutral interior one in the Indianapolis area and this past weekend a black w/ black interior one in the Denver area. I had driven an '07 Impala a few years ago as a rental, these were pretty similar. Pros--spacious inside, big trunk, reasonably quiet and smooth. Overall, the ergonomics and seat adjustment were fine for me, the steering feel, brakes, etc seemed ok. Outward visibility was better than the Malibu I drove last year. Cons--a few quirks..the turn signal/wiper stalk combo was odd to me, I found myself turning on the signals when trying to wipe... I guess I'm used to Chrysler's two stalk setup (lights on left, wipey things on right). Power supply aka lighter was a little hard to find, hidden in the dark at the front of the console. I kept forgetting to release the parking brake, not used to a pedal brake w/o a hand release. I have driven a few cars w/ the GM black tie radio, but for some reason keep reaching to the top corner knob for volume instead of the center knob. But the steering wheel controls worked fine. The door locks kept locking when I shifted into reverse and unlocking when I shifted to park...loud and annoying. Don't like that feature. All in all, a perfectly adequate car..

I'm curious what % of Corvette buyers are under 50..it probably has demographics similar to the Lucerne and DTS, maybe slightly younger.

Hire someone to clean up the mess and invoice her. It's not the mess itself that bothers me - that takes a minute or two to clean up, a couple times a year - it's the fact that her house is falling apart and she doesn't care. Pride in your house does a lot for a neighbourhood. Oh. Well, in that case I don't have any sympathy for you. Your neighbors' house maintenance is their business, not yours. Maybe they're poor or something, who knows. But your complaint is akin to insisting they need to paint their house a different color because you think their shade of red will lower your property value. It won't, really--not until the point where you can call your equivalent of the Dept. of Public Health & Safety. Au contraire..it sounds like they are creating a blight in the neighborhood (which reduces property values) and should be cited by the neighborhood community association (if it is a covenant controlled community). There are people like that in my neighborhood..

My neighbors on the left don't keep their cats in their house or in their yard..they are all over the place, very annoying as they agitate my dogs. The neighbor on the right has an annoying habit of mowing his lawn before 7am on Saturdays. Another neighbor has a clunker '76-77 Cutlass w/ a bad muffler that they pull in their drive at 2am sometimes on the weekend...can hear them from 3 houses down. My neighbors diagonally across the street (my house is in a corner of a U-shaped street) don't do a good job of maintaining their lawn (always looks like crap and has weeds and dirt), and their teenage kids are blasting Justin Bieber or something from their Kia Soul in the evenings occasionally. As far as A/C, this time of the year it runs pretty much all the time..I like to keep the house at about 75F in the summer.

Was in Denver for the weekend, went to the annual Concours de Elegance car show...the biggest I've seen it (been going off and on since 1998). Beyond the usual assortment of Porsches, Mercedes, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Jaguars, there were Shelbys (an unrestored '65 racing Cobra and a GT350 R were amongst the 20 or so there),2 Bitter SCs--the '80s German coupe based on Opel mechanicals, never seen one in person, let along 2, and a late model CTS that was full UK spec--right hand drive, clear taillights, GB number plates.

GM Says Selling Opel Report Is Speculation
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Opel/Vauxhall
It seems the direction that GM is moving is: Chevy-global broad-spectrum mainstream brand Buick, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall- multi-region middle brands w/ some shared platforms and models Cadillac-global premium brand -
If you mean GM's Dan Ackerson, he's a right winger.... Anyway, anything that goes on w/ GM in China is just business...

Maybe..I'm not into the hot rodder stuff, I prefer a stock car w/ maybe some tweaks and enhancements.

Nonsense. E36 (and even e30) guys do it all the time. An LS is a far better engine in a lot of ways than the S50/S52, and it can quite easily be swapped into an e36. Hearing elitists complain about Chevy engines in BMWs gets tiring. (Not calling you out for being an elitist...just saying.) Nah, I'm a purist..I had an E36 M3...BMW's straight 6s are great...I'd never consider putting a Chevy V8 in one. It's just wrong... now an E36 w/ a later BMW V8, that would be cool. The 6-cylinders are ok...nothing special, in my opinion. If you are in it for cruising around in your pristine BMW, then fine, stick with your 6. If you are in it to get some actual performance out of your car, then you are best off swapping it out, unless you want to dump a lot of money into the engine to make it perform marginally better than what a stock LS swap would yield. Also, you probably just made your car more reliable and increased your gas mileage with the swap. The BMW V8s are unreliable garbage, and other than strapping a blower to them, there isn't much you can do as far as upgrades. I love my M62 and I love the S62, but at the end of the day I would swap it out for an LS in a heartbeat if I could. The E46 M3 performance was great w/ the 6... if I wanted more power out of a BMW, I'd buy a newer one..non-standard.engine swaps are a guarantee of building an unreliable POS...

Agreed...unfortunately, GM is hung up on pushrod V8s..cheap to build, what they know, whatever...meanwhile, the rest of the world's automakers (except for Chrysler) long ago moved on to OHC V8s for their cars and trucks...

LS-1 Horsepower in a lightweight 318i body for a lot less than a M3 motor would cost... and he probably also lowered his maintenance costs. I see nothing wrong here. Such cross breeding is fundamentally wrong and beneath contempt. You wouldn't put a Toyota engine in your Oldsmobile, would you? Why should I when GM makes engines that perform better and cost less? Even if there was one that performed better, it's unlikely to cost less. If it costs less, then it wouldn't perform better. Are you trying to say that the LS isn't a step up from a 1.8 BMW engine? I have no problem putting a Chevy LT-1 into my Oldsmobile... I'm really not that married to the 307. Find me a Toyota engine that performs better than the LT-1 and costs equal or less than one. That's how low the bar is set. $1595 gets me a rebuilt LT-1 (260hp, 340 lb-ft) from the '96 Roadmaster. Or I can spend $400 more and move up the the LS1. The least expensive Toyota V6 engine at $1795 is 2.5 liter 156hp V6 from the 1991 ES250..... where do I sign up? You obviously missed the point...a 318i upgraded w/ a later BMW 6 cyl or V8 would be cool and brand-appropriate, but using a Chevy V8 is a stupid as putting a Chevy V8 in a Ford or a Ford engine in a GM product. Putting a Chevy V8 in a BMW or an RX-7 is just Hot Rod magazine silliness.
