I think that is exactly what they are planning. This is "One GM" just like Ford's "One Ford" without the marketing ploy behind it. The Focus platform is getting something like 14 different body styles. We may not get them all, but we'll get most.

I've seen them show up at the various shows I've attended over the years.

The badge doesn't matter. A $300k S-Class won't sell no matter what name is on the dealership door. It shares a platform with a $45k taxi cab after all....

but.... why? The pedestrian version of the GS doesn't sell well at all. There were a couple of months this year so far where the STS actually outsold it. And what is it with Infinitis and Lexuses looking like they are sucking on lemons?

Putting a "classic" grill on an S-Class doesn't make it a Maybach. And in spite of any mechanical differences under the skin, that is exactly what it looked like. In other news: This isn't an Imperial.

losing marketshare to the Corolla is an insult beyond words.

There are typically waiting lists for diesel models of anything at VW.

Not to discount how good the Cruze really is, but it has also really benefited by the Civic, Corolla, Focus, and Sentra stumbles.

I think the Cruze Diesel will be the test GM is looking for.

It's not at the expense of anything. There is still a RWD flagship coming. There is still a RWD 3-series fighter coming.

YES!!!! I wish that 2.9 they were looking to put into the CTS before the "b-word", happened. It had I think 450 lb-ft of torque (too lazy to go look it up)

This needs to have some more options "base" to make give it more value than the other hybrids. It's ok to have a weaker hybrid performance as long as the value is made up elsewhere.

They ARE. It's just not this car. Cadillac can not offer more than one vehicle type at a time?! The RWD flagship wasn't even given the go ahead till Whitacre became CEO. It is also going to be on an entirely new platform. You don't get a new platform like you download apps on your phone. They take time to build and develop. In the meantime, Cadillac dealers need more than CTS, SRX, Escalade to sell. There is no need for hi-per strut on a RWD vehicle. There will be an ATS-V using Magaride, but probably not air springs. But why should Cadillac give away one of their signature technologies on a base ATS? They can already go BMW hunting in a Cobalt SS... no need for Magnaride.
