  1. The problem with that idea Hyper is that the Astra is basically the same car as the Verano is here... it's updated, sure, but it's just your standard slightly more premium compact. Though, they have done a really nice job on the interior....
  2. I'm leaning more toward the rental right now because there will be 4 of us in an Encore and that feels pretty tight for such a long drive. Albert wants to take the Encore because its a car he's familiar with. (I don't have to pay the extra driver fee due to my contract with national)
  3. I know what the CTS was... I had an '04 for 4 years. That looks like an '03, but also could be optioned with a lot more wood trim. The Lexus was also about $15k more.
  4. It just baffles me that that was considered luxury..... a giant heap of gray plastic for a dashboard. My '04 Honda has that.

And 1978 from Oldsmobile Good point on the Saturn coupe, always liked those suicide doors. The Mazda RX-8 had a similar set up. The CLS was still the trend setter that the rest followed. But if you ask Google who invented the car, the response is Karl Benz. If it's on the internet, it must be true.

  8. To borrow from Jaguar... to me Cadillac is Class, Fast, Bad-Ass.. In the past, I would have used Jaguar's "Grace, Pace, Space", but the words no longer really describe today's Cadillac. Grace implies a sense of delicacy.... I would call the 80s Cadillacs of Fleetwood, Seville, and Eldorado graceful. Today's CTS and ATS are not... but they are classy looking. Space no longer really applies to any luxury brand except for the large SUVs, so only the Escalade qualifies there. Pace still applies, but I couldn't think of a rhyme. I picked bad-ass because of the V-Sport and V-Series lines.

  12. I'm sure he'll be along soon enough... but it doesn't really matter. He wanted what he wanted as long as it had a pointy star and a V8. The same way I want something with a peace symbol and a V8. lol I think we all WANT a V8... Even if it is for 90% the sound and 10% performance. For me, it's the low end torque. Even my wheezy 35 year old carbed V8 has great off the line torque that I love.
  13. Seriouslly... until you can actually build a new Celia and Supra... just stop with the extra performance brand... And you ALREADY HAVE a performance brand, it's called TRD!!!
  14. Wrangler or not, this Turbo-4 is badly needed by FCA across the lineup. With those kind of power numbers, I bet we'll see it in a host of products including the Charger, and Cherokee, and possibly even the Pacifica.
  15. As I phase into my new job, my sleep will improve. At the moment, I'd have to answer "no". Having seen pictures of Arnold in just a normal speedo.... I can assure you there is a substantial amount of padding going on there.

  17. He's got the V8 E-class which was the big selling point for him. I can understand the desire for a V8 instead of a NAV6, so I can't knock him on that. I'd prefer a 300c Hemi over a 300c Pentastar every day of the week.
  18. It just has to be a comfort cruiser... I'll have the in-laws in the back seat the whole time, so not like I can have any fun with the car.
  19. The Regal and the Verano both need to move up in price and content. Let them start doing plastic seats like Benz and BMW and make those standard, give the Verano AWD and drop the 2.4 use the 1.6T instead, The Regal Turbo needs a bit of a power bump to at least GS levels while the GS should go higher. Regal needs a visual refresh and bring over the wagon, sprucing up the Regal interior materials couldn't hurt either.
  20. Why would U compare the LaX with the ATS anyway? The LaX should be viewed as a step down from the CTS. The ATS more in line with the Regal or even Verano in terms of steps. Because he seems to think that anyone with $40k to spend is going to go the same direction he is... that RWD trumps everything else including size, or that someone looking for the size and comfort of a Lacrosse is going to downsize in to a really small CLA because glowing-pointy-star. Do people not read? I would prefer an ATS over a LaCrosee, but I prefer performance over length and interior dimensions. I said you can argue one over the other. If your view of luxury is leg room and a soft ride and some tech gadgets, you may want a Kia Cadenza or similar. Different strokes for different folks. You have argued consistently over the years that the Lacrosse is not a luxury car in your view simply because you value other factors more. Are you changing your argument to say that the Lacrosse IS a luxury car, but just not your style?

Because reviewing cars is different than giving advice as to which car a certain person should buy..... and as I also pointed out above, often those people already made a decision on what they are buying or have bought, and just hoping you'll justify their choice. My favorite question I get </s> is "What's the best car to buy?"..... that's it... no qualifying criteria, no budget, nothing. I like to answer "The Bugatti Veyron, it'll run you a million dollars".... to which they answer "Oh, I have an Accord LX... is that a good car?".... to which I reply... "Sure, but it's not a Veyron". I'll direct you this comment It isn't I don't like giving advice, but it seems most people have their made up. Basically, I try to guide the process along with said vehicle along with a few other choices. I'm willing to help out someone, but I can't be sure if it's because they need justification or actual help. I do the same thing.... I find out what they are most interested in and then also suggest viable alternatives they might not have thought about.

  23. Most people asking for car buying advice don't actually want advice... they just want you to justify the decision they already made so they can say "Well a car guy told me this was the best choice"
  24. Buick's compact car, the Verano may not see an encore after the model run is up at the end of the 2017 model year according to a report on AutoNews.com. With the addition of the Buick Envision going on sale in a few weeks, Buick see crossovers making up 70% of its sales going forward. It's not hard to see why Buick would come to that conclusion. GM sales figures for December 2015 show the Verano moving 31,886 copies for the year while the similarly priced Buick Encore sold 67,549 units. Buick's strategy lately has been to fill "white space" in the market. Offer models that don't quite have an exact match to offerings from any other brand. When the Verano debuted in 2011, it filled such a white space being a small car with premium features like heated steering wheel, large for the time entertainment screen, and a powerful turbo option. Since that time, redesigned versions of the Chevy Cruze and Honda Civic have started offering those features and more. Canceling the Verano makes it a one-and-done model. The writing apparently has been on the wall for the Verano for a while. In December we noticed that the Turbo model was apparently being dropped for 2017 as it no longer appears on the Verano's VIN card. The biggest impact will be to Buick dealerships who will now have to convince 30,000 customers a year that they don't want a sedan and what they really want is a shiny new Encore or Envision.
