  1. What? How are they even relatable? Since when are sales reflective or critical to the award? And the 2015 F-150 did win TOTY. Google is an ally. In what publication? At MotorTrend, the 2015 Truck of the year was the Chevrolet Colorado. The last time the F-150 won MT Truck of the Year was 2012. 2015 - Chevy Colorado 2014 - Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 2013 - Ram 1500 2012 - Ford F-150 2011 - Chevrolet Silverado HD 2010 - Ram HD 2009 - Ford F-150 Truck Trend. Motor Trends TRUCK publication. Not the publication we're talking about.
  2. That sounds like it is most likely an engine limitation rather than a frame limitation..... the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel is rated for about 7,500.

  4. Since when do you dictate the topic of the thread? This thread is about the Camaro being a COTY finalist and debating the possibility that it takes the award. Yes there are other cars involved, but this thread is about the Camaro... it's right there in the title. Mustang II Ford Probe Ford tried to at least twice. GM killed off the F-body because it wasn't shared with any other cars while the Ford Fox Body was shared with multiple cars. In 2015, the situation is reversed. Camaro shares with some very premium brethren, while Mustang shares with nothing even though the automotive press has been practically begging For a mustang based Lincoln for years. There was a hint of it coming with the DEW98 platform, but alas it was not the case. Once the Camaro is fully online and selling, it is likely to have a higher profit margin per unit than Mustang for that reason alone. If it steals sales away from Mustang... then the concern should really be for Mustang with its lower per-unit profit margins.. .... but then there is always the Florida/California rental fleet market for Ford to turn to.
  5. A friend of mine who works for a different publication has driven it already. He said that the fuel economy was atrocious for the diesel even when it wasn't towing.
  6. I don't think they need to choose between Dodge and Chrysler. Fiat - niche small fun hatchbacks and crossovers at a cheap price. Price of Scion + Cuteness of Mini Dodge - FCA's answer to Ford and Chevy in cars and some crossovers Chrysler - FCA's answer to Buick, the Avalon/ES, Acura, and Lincoln in cars and maybe a crossover or three, plus the Minivan. 300 would need to move up in status by a good chunk. Maserati - The BMW/Benz/Cadillac competition - too sporty to go up against Lexus. They would need to come down in their segments, probably take over the Guilia... but not go as far south as Mercedes and BMW have gone. Ram and Jeep stay right where they are. edit: And yes, I think this could work globally even if they just rebranded the Dodge/Chrysler vehicles as Fiats or Lancia's (only one or the other) overseas, but Chrysler could probably be used with success.
  7. I have reasons to believe the Civic is the winner, but nothing firmer than what has already been stated. Just a hunch based on circumstantial evidence. However, there is equal circumstantial evidence in favor of the Camaro. It's just a matter of the timing of the evidence that makes me lean towards Civic.
  8. Now does this rule apply to all cars? The reason why I ask is that you were singing a completely different tune a few months ago in regards to the Expedition vs. Tahoe. Why do sales only matter when Ford is winning but they don't matter when they losing badly? It's a simple question. And again with you focusing only on the negative when it suits you. Per the same article: "We Like: Lightweight new platform, screaming engines." sales always matter. how do you not know this? especially in a segment that lives or dies by those sales. I am concerned that poor sales could take away what is Mustangs only real competition. Sales numbers are not a criteria for the MT award. And, I'm afraid I have to "concern troll" your concern trolling. Camaro is not going out of production. In the unlikely event that sales do not increase with the new model, even keeping it at 86k a year would be more than enough to keep it in production since it actually has other cars on the platform to share with. An advantage that the Mustang currently does not enjoy... nor does it seem it will enjoy that benefit anytime soon. topic please, which is camaro not quite winning an award....not F-150 winning pretty much everything.
  9. Can we keep that bickering to a single thread please?
  10. I could see the Miata getting it, though it should be dinged for the same styling reason the Camaro did. No to the TT - Audi is in timeout with VW at the moment. No to the MB GTS - way too far out of the mainstream Civic possibly, it probably will be the new best in class, but it doesn't blow me away. No to the Mirai - it doesn't get sold anywhere 7-series - I guess it is possible, but again it doesn't change the equation from the last 3 decades of 7-series in styling. So I think in reality it is down to Camaro, Miata, and Civic.... with the 7-series being a distant 4th.
  11. Thanks Hyper, that was the gist of what I was getting at but with more detail.
  12. Because it would mean closing Serg's pet brands. Serg is bleeding Chrysler to keep Fiat, Alfa, Maserati and for some reason Lancia (Italy Only) alive.
  13. Chinese labor isn't as cheap anymore and there is the huge uncertainty of energy costs involved in shipping cars. If I had to guess.... Buick needed this car in the US three years ago, but with all of the other stuff coming, there isn't a place to build it, so they're just going to build it in China until they can find a place.
  14. yes, that would be troubling if that were the case, but it's not. Since the BK, and even before the latest round of UAW agreements, all three of the big three have re-expanded production in the US. The UAW agreements recently reached ensure that trend will continue. GM is doubling the size of Arlington and they made huge investments in their Michigan facilities. Hyundai/Kia have been expanding their manufacturing in the US. Subaru is increasing the capacity of the Indiana plant by something like 30% (don't quote me, but it's a good chunk) to build the Impreza and the new 3-row crossover. Mercedes just contracted with AM General to use the former Humvee plant to build R-Classes to sell in China. The R-Class isn't even sold in the U.S. The Volvo built in China will be a one-and-done. When the new platform arrives, production will swing to the new plant they are building in South Carolina where most US sold Volvos will thenceforth be built. American Auto Manufacturing is very much alive and growing again. Back when energy prices soared at the end of the last administration, all manufacturers got caught with their pants down... but auto manufacturers especially. Seemingly overnight, their shipping costs jumped 100% or more. After that, there formed an understood but unspoken policy of "If you have the capacity, build it on the continent where you're going to sell the most of them... if you don't have the capacity, build the capacity." And like the Volvo, if this Envision takes off in the US, I can see GM moving production to North America for North American bound units.
  15. We're exporting Enclaves from the US to China and have been for a few years now... so it's an even swap. And it makes sense... Buick will sell more Envisions in China than in the US and they sell more Enclaves in the US than they do in China. Build 'em where you're going to sell the most of them.
  16. Camaro In Name Only It has the name, but little of the prior characteristics.
  17. great way to look at it!
  18. Hyundai is a company on the move. Hyundai announced they were spinning off Genesis into a dedicated luxury brand just over a week ago. Then a couple of days ago, Genesis showed renderings of the Genesis G90, the brand's first car and the replacement for the Hyundai Equus. The G90 will have it's world debut next month in South Korea, so we'll likely see the car in the States in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. With all of that activity, it should be no surprise that a spy photographer already picked up the Genesis G90 undergoing testing. From the pictures of the interior, the G90 has a decidedly S-Class look to it, with a large embedded center screen and rows of horizontal metallic buttons. There is also indications of some powertrain changes coming with a new 3.3 liter turbo V6 in both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive formats while the 5.0 liter V8 gets all-wheel drive. The Hyundai 3.3T specs leaked out last winter and indicated around 365hp with 379 lb-ft of torque along a very flat torque curve that runs at peak from 1500 rpm to 4500 rpm. The 5.0 V8 is rumored to get an upgrade in power as well. Source: Left Lane News, AutoGuide.com Photo: Hyundai Media View full article

  20. Exactly! It's rare enough that there are only a handful listed on Autotrader across the entire U.S. Besides the tacky wheels, this one is incredibly clean, too. My only problem is that I told myself I wouldn't buy another unreasonable car after I sold the Firebird. The price, though, is pretty hard to resist at $3500... Oh, Firebird money, I'm not sure how long you'll be safe. Heck... and that price....
  21. In my experience, the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel does beat it the highway EPA, but not by the drastic numbers the VWs do. JGC ED is good for about 33 - 34 highway.... but that is still a fantastic number when you think about what that vehicle is.
