Buick News: Rumorpile: Buick Envision Coming To U.S. In 2015
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
The Enclave sells really well in its segment and at very high average transaction prices... rarely do they sell as base models. When you consider that the Enclave has a base price of $38,890, that means that most of them are moving for around close to $50k or better. It's main competition is the Lexus RX and the Acura MDX. The Germans do overlap a bit at the higher end of the price scale. Buick uses the offer of being a 3-row to a sales advantage. YTD the Enclave has sold 46k, the RX has sold 76k, the MDX (which is the newest vehicle in the class) has sold 48k. The M-Class has sold 32k. The X5 has sold 33k. It's not getting lost anywhere. -
Spark Sales Surpass 1 Million Globally
Drew Dowdell replied to G. David Felt's topic in General Motors
For what it is, they aren't penalty boxes. I would only ask for an option for a bit more power and another gear in the gearbox.... literally my only change requests. Everything else is fine as is. If Chevy could do a 1.0T like the Ford Fiesta, that would be bomb. -
it literally does take days sometimes to get around it. Lots going on, kids interrupt, all sorts of things. Its too bad but thats the way it goes. Believe me, I understand that... but I mean, why not wait until you write it to create the thread?

Acura News: Acura Looks Towards All-Wheel Drive As A Differing Factor
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Acura
How is AWD a differing factor? 4 out of 5 (soon to be 5 out of 6) Buicks have AWD available. All of the (relevant) Audis have AWD available or standard.* All of the relevant BMWs have AWD available.* All of the relevant Mercedes have AWD available.* All Cadillacs have AWD available. All Lincolns have AWD/4WD available. All Infinitis have AWD available. All relevant Jaguars have AWD available.* *I'm ignoring cars in the lineup like the Z4 and SLK since Acura doesn't make anything close to that.- 12 replies

Buick News: Rumorpile: Buick Envision Coming To U.S. In 2015
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Very different buyers. I agree that the Terrain needs to butch up more, but at the same time, Buick needs something between the Encore and Enclave. A little bit bigger than the Lincoln MKC would be just about perfect and would drive a gigantic nail into the sidewalls of the Lexus RX. It would also serve to continue Buick's march upwards in status. -
Chrysler News: Sergio Marchionne To Step Down As FCA CEO In 2018

Wow, that's a long retirement party. There are vehicles that haven't even been released yet that will likely go through a refresh before he steps down. -

There's no way those two vehicles aren't directly related. -

I suppose it depends on if we get the same version China gets or not. If we get the Chinese version shown above, it is indeed a restyled Captiva. If we get something entirely new, then. The current eastern markets Captiva Sport: The coming eastern market Envision: -
Age Demographics: Car Brands with the oldest buyers

One in every 5 GMCs sold is a Denali model. Close to 50% of GMC Yukons sold is a Denali 35% of Sierras sold are Denalis. GMC alone outsells VW, Audi, Chrysler, BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes. Denali trims alone outsell all of Land Rover. GMC and Denali are huge profit centers for GM. -

Age Demographics: Car Brands with the oldest buyers
Drew Dowdell replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Industry News
most of the Verano drivers and probably all of the Regal drivers are much younger, so I guessing the bulk of the age comes from Lacrosse and Enclave. Also, 2013 was a partial year for Encore, so I bet their overall ABA will continue to drop -

I agree on the apprenticeship. As is so often the case, I refer back to Germany where they still do such a thing. I was talking about the age thing because it was brought up that GenXers and GenYers are accused by the older generations of not wanting to work.... well we do.... don't blame us for the lack of opportunities when the older generations are staying in their jobs 10-15 years longer than before. -

Like that was the GenXer's or GenYer's decision to move production to China? That's all on the boomers. -
Nope... it's just the 2.5 4-cylinder. I feel this these trucks are the most appropriate application of this engine so far.

Wow.... maybe if some of the older folks would shuffle off sooner and get out of the way instead of holding on to jobs into their 70s, the younger generations might have a chance? Maybe if the younger generations weren't sold a bill of goods about how important it is to go into debt to get a good education, only to find that jobs once you got out of college (even good engineering jobs or software jobs) wouldn't pay the debt down. Working through school and finishing in 4 years isn't an option anymore either because cost of living is so high while minimum wage is so low. I have a good job and no school debt and I'm incredibly incredibly lucky for that.... but I still feel the absolute lack of opportunity out there to move up in any meaningful way in a "typical" career path. -
Sorry guys, other things have come up. I will get these driving impressions out to you soon. Long story short - don't count out the 4-cylinder truck at all. I was far more impressed with it than I was with the V6.

One year recently, I don't remember which but probably 2013 or 2012, Buick was the only brand to lower it's ABA, everyone else moved up. -
Ford Earnings and Sales - New CEO issues or true wait and see?
Drew Dowdell replied to G. David Felt's topic in Opinion
I think he left lincoln on life support with no real road to recovery. He let the F-150 and related SUVs grow stale on the vine. He lead the infotainment war by having one of the best early entries into the field only to leave it to rot on the vine with no real updates.... He made sure the small/mid car areas were taken care of with new platforms.... One Ford is a laudable goal. Overall I give him a mix grade -

September 2014: General Motors Co.
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in 2014 Sales Archive
The Lambas on sale today are barely 2 years old. They were extensively refreshed for MY2013, basically all new inside and out with only the second/third row seating being largely carry over. The engines were tweaked and the transmission innards were completely replaced. The continue to be strong sellers because they are pretty much the biggest in their class without going to a BOF SUV and you don't take a MPG hit. 98% of a Tahoe inside without the cost or fuel economy penalty is a pretty good reason. -
Good morning from the Pittsburgh international race complex. I'm visiting with Lingenfelter performance today and will be taking a couple laps in their Camaro with driver Danny Popp.

No.. it's just an abundance of caution. A lot of the recalls could have been TSBs but GM is recalling them anyway. I recall one of the recalls is a "The key is still in the ignition you dummy" chime that doesn't sound if the silverado/sierra is equipped with a certain radio. On my Buick, the recall is to check how tight the bolts that hold the seat to the floor are torqued down..... not exactly life threatening stuff.
