We are a little more than a month away from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but much like the Christmas music in stores the day after Halloween, companies like to tease us for a month or two ahead of time. One of the earliest teasers (that wasn't a full reveal like the Mercedes GLE) is the next generation Toyota Tacoma. So far, all we get to see is the tailgate of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma that will be revealed in about a month. We're expecting styling to borrow heavily from its big brother, the Toyota Tundra. The Tacoma has been the best selling small truck for a number of years now as the Detroit three ceded the segment to the Japanese. However, Toyota is going to be facing stiff competition in the next couple of years. GM is back with a vengeance with their new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, the former of which won MotorTrend's Truck of the Year award for 2015, Nissan's Frontier will be updated soon, Honda is returning with the Ridgeline, and rumors suggest Ford's Ranger is due to return as well. Toyota sold 159,485 Tacoma Trucks in 2013 and 140,757 Tacomas of November 2014. With such strong competition coming, Toyota is going to have to make sure they leave no tailgate unlatched to keep up the sales pace.

I think part of the reason of the lighter weight cars was due to manufacturers chasing fuel economy. But even then, airbags were first deployed on the 1974 Oldsmobile Toronado and you don't get much bigger and more solid than a '74 Toronado. Mercedes caught up 6 years later with the S-Class in 1980, again, a car known for being big and solid. So the idea that manufacturers put airbags in cars in order to counteract the reductions in weight kinda puts the order of the way things happened the wrong way 'round. Smaller cars didn't start getting airbags until the very late '80s. and the airbag in my Honda doesn't give me a sense of security at all... it hasn't been recalled yet, so there is still a chance of getting shrapnel in the face if I were in an accident.

So wait, the new AMG engine has a 58 horsepower and 51 lb-ft deficit compared to the Cadillac V-Sport engine?

Review: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude and Overland
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
As I said on Facebook: The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of my favorite vehicles on sale today. If you ask me the generic question "What car should I buy?", chances are this is going to be on the "must test drive" list. -

22" LPO rims & tires - 2014 GMC Sierra SLT
Drew Dowdell replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in GMC Trucks
For what GMCTruckguy is going to be doing with a truck like this in suburban NJ, I doubt handling is that much of a concern. -

22" LPO rims & tires - 2014 GMC Sierra SLT
Drew Dowdell replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in GMC Trucks
You must have better roads out your way. The 18s on the Buick are about as big as I'd want to go. Again with the handling though, what does it really matter on a truck like this? -
Cadillac News: Looking Into the Mind Of Cadillac's President

Which means they could have just called the car STS, and what is now the ATS should have been called CTS. It doesn't really matter since they're going to all get renamed anyway. But then the Fusion should have been named Taurus too. At the rate BMWs are putting on weight, price, and size, the 3-series is going to need to be renamed 7-series in a generation or two. -

Remember, Jeep is trying to make big inroads in Europe and China. This move is probably linked to that.- 5 replies

Chrysler News: Rumorpile: Updates Incoming For Pentastar V6s
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Chrysler
The pentastar today is very efficient. Direct injection will make it more so. With turbos, we're probably looking at a base Hemi replacement.- 5 replies

Cadillac News: Looking Into the Mind Of Cadillac's President
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
That isn't a problem. The CTS just took over for the STS and lost the coupe in the process (though I believe we'll see a new one). Just like it's not a problem that the Fusion took over for the Taurus. -

what does wheel size have to do with tire quality? I can get 90k mile warranty 15" tires for my CR-V... in fact, that's what's on there now. -

The Hemi "prefers" mid-grade, but will run just fine on regular. There is just a slight dial back in horsepower and torque when it detects the lower octane fuel.

Better handling on 22s maybe, but better ride? No way. But who buys a Sierra for handling? Here in the pothole state, I always opt for smaller wheels when possible. -

Volvo News: Volvo Coupe Project Is On Hold For the Time Being
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Volvo
sounds like things might be a big more precarious than previously thought when the XC90 is such a make or break vehicle for them. I would think that a new S40 and maybe XC40 and XC60 would be higher priority.- 3 replies

Toyota News: Next-Generation Toyota Tacoma Coming to Detroit
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
a tenant of mine had the frame replaced on his... the truck was never right after (though I'd argue that it wasn't right before the procedure either). He traded it in on a real truck... a 2013 Silverado.- 16 replies
