The G3 isn't going to sell in big enough numbers to effect CAFE in any meanigful way, it will probably sell worse than the G5. Plus, the production capacity for the eleventy-million G8s that people on this board think Pontiac can sell doesn't exist. The G3 and G5 are just GM giving into pressure from BPG dealers to get something cheap onto lots during a downturn in the economy, and the products reflect that.

You said the GOP was going to become more moderate. A block of voters doesn't make a party. A party makes a party. Unless by "future" you mean 30 years from now, which you may have meant, but didn't specify.

John McCain is now head of the GOP. John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. Sarah Palin is right of Pat Buchanan. Therefore, the GOP is not headed in a more moderate direction, since the head of the party has selected the person he hopes will succeed him (be it in 6 months, 2 years, 4 years or 8 years) and that person is nowhere close to moderate.

Ummm....am I the only one that doesn't want McCain at the helm of any boat? Sure, he's a Navy guy, but he wasn't a boat guy, he was a plane guy. And he crashed 5 planes. (Ok, maybe one of them wasn't his fault)

Now McCain wants to have the first debate October 2nd and postpone the VP debate. Yeah, its not obvious that he doesn't think Palin is ready. And why is he so certain that a bailout bill will be passed by next Thursday? If it isn't, is he going to skip that as well? And why is he so determined to pass something that GOP platform adopted last month says is unacceptable? Obama wants the debate to go on, the Commission on Presidential Debates wants the debate to go on, McCain is the only one who doesn't, and I dont think he'll win. If he skips, Obama gets two hours in a hall in Oxford, MS with no opponent and a national tv audience.

History books will only need 6 letters to describe his presidency: Teh Suk. That is assuming schools aren't using history books published in 2000 in 2028.

And my thoughts on the political threads are that they're fine as long as we act like grown ups and dont take them into other threads. How is using a delay tactic leadership? The debate is supposed to be on foreign policy (supposedly McCain's strong suit) and takes place on Friday night. If McCain is so well versed in foreign policy, he shouldn't need to spend the next 3 days studying like its a freaking Micro Biology exam. Besides, I'm pretty sure the president usually has more than one thing on his plate, so is McCain saying that he cannot multi-task? I'm sure the specifics of the bill can be emailed (oops, carrier pigeoned) to him so he can look them over while Palin is speaking and ducking the press and he can brush up on foreign policy between the Early-Bird special and Murder She Wrote.
