I'm sure the gauge clusters have been posted as a technology showcase, and like a concept car they're bound to have some overkill factor to them.

I think the CTS is awesome, inside and out! Unfortunately, GM still has to conquer the perception barrier.The criticism that usually applies to Chrysler interiors can be transported to the C-Class interior: it just doesn't look/feel right.

Too bad you don't want V8s. I was going to suggest a Suburban with military-syle paint, a huge pair of horns in the grille or front bumper and a machine gun on top: that would be scary! CTS seems to be a good choice, as would the 300 and Charger.
