  1. I'd rather have a non-working Bell helicopter along the lines of the one Fly posted than ever own a Honda. At least the S2000 is RWD but haivng to rev. to 9000RPM to get as much torque as I get in my Cadillac @ 750RPM on 7 cylinder gets very annoying VERY quick for me. Every one I've driven has dissapointed me, even comfort aside.

  4. A lot less to worry about with an older car in terms of the state safety/emissios inspection. Here in Massachusetts a car older than 1984 does NOT have to be tested to any degree by the smog sniffer. Yet another reason why I got rid of my 100,450 mile 1984 Datsun & got a 83,700 mile 1977 Cadillac. But really I was just in the mood for a 2dr car with a leather interior & a 400+cu.in. motor. It's kind of cool to go from a "BIG" 2.4L inline-six from Japan to a "downsized" 7.0 liter V8. So my fleet will have the exact combined liters it had before even though I'm selling my 4.6 liter Northstar. 7 - 4.6 = 2.4
  5. Holy Cow Balathazar: I certanly hope he treats the '59 Imperial better than the cars we looked at. It's sad that someone would leave so many neat classics rotting in a wet barn or out in the tall grass year round next to some Ford & Son tractor. Here's a 300F, one of the best examples of tailfins EVER! Here's an AMC hardtop that I have never seen up close and yet there's one that I keep seeing in the area from afar... And how about a '77 Nissan 4-door Hardtop?
  6. I'm not a T-bird fan, in fact I think they're some of the most over rated cars around, and some are in fact butt ugly IMHO. But in the spirit of my G/F watching Thelma & Louise this morning I thought I'd post an exception to the rule: the '70 Thunder-Turd 2dr pillarless Hardtop. This is a 1970 T-Bird in "Green Fire". Ford's idea of green is combustion. And some random stuff: A very rare vista-roof (wrap-around rear window) 1961 Cadillac 4dr ht.
  7. WAL*MART is tied with Toyota as the WORST company in the History of the Universe. They're bad for business, bad for our economy and worst of all BAD FOR THE USA.
  8. Although I do not usually let ayone drive my classics, Ross & Duffy have driven more than their fair share of 1950s & 1960s classics. But you can certainly take the Banana Yacht for a spirited drive!
  9. My Humps is right up there with the Macarena.
  10. About 150 miles so far... only "problem" has been super-saggy headliner and sueaky V-belts. I eliminated problem #2 by tightening the Alternator & Power Steering Pump to make the belts taught. Meantime I got headliner glue from XP and attempted to glue the sagging material to the foamy, droopy mess that is still attached to the roof. It did not work well at all and so in a moment of frustration I ripped all the white pleather off in one piece. I'll figure it out later today.
  11. Yes of course, it IS a "Two Door Sedan deVille" but you know Cadillac, five years later they had "Roadster Edition" 4 door sedan Bustlebacks. Does NOT make any sense except to a guy from Florida who wears white shoes/belt/pants/sport coat/hat. When I got back from the roadtrip where I met up with you in 2005 XP715 was in a position where he HAD to get Big Red out of his grand parent's back yard, he had NO storage. So he offered Big Red up to me pretty cheap. I guess all those years of me preaching to the world about the superiority of RWD, BOF big boats w/ pushrod V8s payed off because of all the @$$holes Ross knew who were into cars he thought I'd be the perfect candidate to buy Big Red. So I took in Big Red like a poor orphaned child. I had seven or so cars already in my driveway with room for another four or five. Just having gotten back from the roadtrip and Christmas approaching I never had a chance to pay him for the car becfore he came up with a crazy plan. It was a win/win scenario. He registered Big Red as an Antique & I stored it at my house. It was HIS car but for the free storage he gave Marcia & me a set of keys to her and free reign to drive the car any time so long as he did not have plans ahead of time to use her. So for a few months Big Red was a semi-daily driver for me. The girlfriend was driving the Datsun while the STS was being a douchebag to us agian and eating money like a trash compactor. Also, even when the STS was not being worked on I drove Big Red quite often cause the car was so addictive. Loved that big old 425. Sure it's a baby compared to the 472/500 motors but it's still a monster compared to the 307 Oldsmobile motor powered 1980s Cadillacs I'm used to owning. You got me... the only thing I'm going to miss is the 5-speed. But as you know, according to a fellow on B-59.com there is a $300 adapter I can buy which will allow a Muncie (4-speed manual) to be fitted into the LeSabre. I've threatened to convert many big old American boats to sticks, but this time I just might pull the trigger and do it. Big old skullhead shifter knob mounted on top of a bent lever sticking out of the floor.
  12. My two year love affair with Datsun... . . . . . . . ...is very much over. I'd like to introduce to you the newest member of Tight Whip$: The "Bannana Milkshake" 1977 Cadillac Coupe deVille 425 cubic inches of raw torque, 7 miles of white leater & that special Cadillac feel. This afternoon at 3:00pm I sold my Datsun and then travelled down with Sofia in the B-59 to visit my College Friends in the south-east part of the state. Sofia had a blast with Jim's daugher Chloe & I showed off my '59 Buick to the crazy nut who got me hooked on them to begin with, first time seeing him in two years. He is visiting from Arizona. So then at 10:30pm XP drove me up to Milford, NH to buy my Bannana Cream Pie Caddy. The ride down was uneventfull, except for a few mini-burnouts at red lights. These photos are from last Saturday when I test drove the car.
  13. SO at 5:00pm today I'm on Rt.495 doing about 75mph in the B-59. It had been 2035 miles since I bought the car and so far it was behaving beautifully. I'm just before the Rt. 20 exits when I notice that my power steering has stopped working.... I'm having to put out just a TINY bit of effort with my two fingers to keep the car between the dashed lines. About 45 seconds later I'm still contemplating where to pull over, I'm not sure I have PS fluid in my emergency box. All of a sudden a big gush of red liquid comes flying out of my hood/fender seam & it makes the windsield into less of a window & more of a Piccaso painting. I pull over at the Rt.20 exit and open the hood.... sure enough both my accessory belts are off. Lucky for me only the one that runs off the PS pump/HB/H20 pump is torn up, the other one, which runs the H20 pump & Generator off the HB is intact. $7.99 for a jug of coolant, a juice box for Sofia to keep her busy and I get to work. I have no power steering but I still got down to the see Duffy and all my other friends. Rouind trip it's about 160 miles so I think considering that it was MY fault to begin with for not changing the belts IMMEDIATELY after buying the car I can't complain. XP715 already hooked me up with a discount on a new set of belts. They'll go in tomorrow morning. Duffy is coming up here to visit ME tomorrow & I promissed him he could take the B-59 for a spin.
  14. Yes, I agree... Bring it on!
  15. We're meeting at a friends' house in E. Taunton, MA. So yeah... one month and 2000 miles later this will the the B-59s first real ROADTRIP of since I drove it home in a Blizzard the night I bought it. Weather's beautiful, wish me luck.
  16. For what it is, it's a sharp looking car. I too would recomend it to a friend if they were shopping FWD $h!boxes, esp. Japanese Cookie Cutter sedans. It's the lesser of two evils.
  17. Go figure, that pic came up on a Google search for 1968 Sedan deVille... My bad. Also... Balthazar: is it just me or isn't the 1961 DeSoto flattering the '59 Buick by immitation? I think more so than any other one single car it borrowed many styling features & themes, although I much prefer the B-59 in terms of styling... Mopar fans might disagree though...
  18. Frankly I'm tired of these arguments where atoms are spliced. This thread was just supposed to be a light-hearted distraction...

  20. Ignorance means the lack of knowledge at a particular point in time. Stupidity is a more permanent problem.
  21. My parents still have the NEC Television my dad bought in 1983 when he came to the USA. It works 100% and I swear, call me crazy the colors on it are better than many new TVs.
  22. I'm guessing GTX... Anyway hard to think of smashed up cars when 8 people are dead and hundreds of lives shattered.
