Well $hit as long as we're beating a ... why not just talk in terms of subjectivity? This became silly at page 3 so why not just go back and re-read what most of us have already said.
  2. Thanks so much GM1, yes she's a great kid, cute and somehow even with my feeble parenting skills she has turned out polite & patient. We drag this kid all over New England to go look at '63 Plymouths, '84 Cadillacs, '71 Rolls Royces & '97 Q45s of all things. She's got some funny one liners already... like if we're at a red light for a while and it turns green she starts yelling: go, go, GO, GO! Other times she'll say "cool car" and the Super 88 has become the "niiiiiice car" according to Sofia, although she bestowed that honor on a teal-green '58 Buick at a carshow today. Anything taller/longer/higher up than a Ford F350 is a "BIG truck" sPenguin & XP keep trying to get her to say TIGHT WHIPS.
  3. Yeah... it was posted on newengland-motorsports.com and I thought I'd share, that intercooler is very cool, but it does make the car useless even if just a shopping cart bumps it.
  4. Fly: I WAS being sarcastic although I was unaware the Super 88 name dates all the way back to '51. I recently saw a flat black early '50s Buick Super sporting moon eyes. It was pretty cool. I guess I should have used a smiley.
  5. Well, as much as the kid inside wants to blast down rt.495 down to PA & N.J. it's not going to happen for a while. If nothing else I need to do a coolant flush, oil change, carb. rebuild, two new headlights, four new tires, brake shoes & brake bleed, vaccum hoses, new fan belts and most important of all the timing is probably about 179* off. But assuming the radiator & rear end and all the other weak points are good afterwards and all the aforementioned fixes go well I will take this Rocket on a few monumental road trips.
  6. Looks very close to concept... very good GM.
  7. I hate to be a prick but... *cough cough* I told you so!
  8. Check out the inter-cooler setup on this 04 GTO. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pontiac-GTO...648598206QQrdZ1
  9. Lethargic
  10. Super was an Olds not a Buick... but hell make a zeta-based Roadmaster Super already! The Velite was nice but a HT Riviera along the lines of the 71-72 Boat Tails would be even cooler and more revitalizing for the brand.
  11. Jezus... this is sad... depressing.
  12. That's right my high compression 1964 Olds takes gas that is not even sold to the consumer anymore. LEADED premium that was by far better than the crap they give us today. Some of those Sunoco super-blends from back in the 60s were probably the equivelant of 102 octane. I'm happy to report that by driving the Super 88 for 13 miles yesterday I managed to offset three years of Toyota Prius production. I hate cold, YAY GLOBAL WARMING!

At one point I had a fleet of FOUR vehicles, each with a V8. (STS, Camaro, F.Brougham & Suburban) My 240Z powered Maxima is the only NON V8 in my fleet right now, if I ever get rid of that car I just might never own a NON-V8 car again. Or then again I just might follow through with my plans of stuffing an LS1 or LS6 into the Datsun. FU$% four bangers, screw V6s and to hell with hybrids. The only way someone is going to get me out of an I6/V8 powered car will be a flat-four turbo or a rotary.
  14. If it was possible for me to sqeeze it into my schedule you would need not bribe me with gas money. Next year, it's very possible I could make it down, just give us all advance notice. I'd love to do a roadtrip like that in the Super 88.
  15. Since your choices are all FWD and "safe" choices I voted Impala because it's the least borig IMO. It's grown on me quite a bit but I'd still take a Charger or 300C over one in a heartbeat. Shoot I'd take a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis over it any day.
  16. 'nough said. Most of these wussys will be people who just shouldn't drive in bad weatehr PERIOD.
  17. I'd rather be Mopar than FoMoCo or GM right now.
  18. Ahhh... great point.
  19. Stay away for this one.... transmissions suck!
  20. Holy cow O.B. That's just... depressing. It takes so "little" to loose your life sometimes if you get stupid behind the wheel, I wear my seatbelt about 97% of the time... after that story I'll try to make it closer to 100.
  21. Yeah, sorry... It's shaky as all hell. I need to use a steady cam I guess.
  22. JUST KIDDING! Actually yesterday I witnessed a miracle. I went out in the morning and got some "Marvell's Mystery Oil" and two sets of spare keys made for the Super 88. When I came home there were some sun showers and then it got overcast. I was on the fence about weather or not to work on the car finally. After about 25 minutes I have the 2-4-6-8 valve cover off and I pour some of the Mystery Oil on #2 & 8 cylinders. Those two supposedly have no compression. I call my friend Kevin outside. (he was talking to Marcia inside) I had him crank the car with the valve cover off so I can see what's what. The #2/4/6/8 spark plugs have no wires, and as he cranks the motor so I can see the valve springs & pushrods in motion I hear a few cylinders fire. When this happened I was stunned. The gas in the car is 23 years old. Theoretically it's not even combustible any more... it's crap. I have him crank it again & this time I'm sure that the opposite 4 cylinders that are actually getting ignition (1,3,5,7) were firing. After pouring a capfull of Marvell's on the valve stems/springs the car's right cylinder bank gets reassembled and I pour the remainder of the 2 quarts or Marvell's down the oil fill. The plan is to crank it for a while and just get some of the Marvell's down the cylinder heads. Then we'll go syphon the $hit gas out of it and refill it with super 93, octane booster & lead additive. I crank the motor without touching the gas, choke or anything, just sit inside the car & turn the ignition key like 3 sec. What happens next stuns me. The car starts up and revs to about 2000 rpm then just seconds later starts settling to idle. I get out of the car in utter amazement, stare at Kevin & high-five him as I start yelling & laughing. I just hit the Lottery. This car was bought cheap because it was supposed to require a valve-job and now after $12 of Marvell's it starts up cold without even so much as a pump of the gas pedal. So I shut her down, grabbed 6 gallons of Mobil 93 & octane booster from the gas station down the street and poured it in. I figured if it runs on the crap in the tank then I'll just water it down with the good stuff and burn off all of it. I yard drove the car for a while & then did some safety checks, right as I slam the hood down SP pulls up with a buddy. I start the car for him but swore him to secrecy so that XP would not find out. Half an hour later we hit the road... me in the Super 88 leading the way and SP in my Datsun (along with his buddy and Sofia in the baby seat) 6 miles later we pull up to the Autozone parking lot and I call up XP on my cell. I tell him this crazy story about how the pushrods, valve stems, valve springs & rockers have surface rust on them and how the car's motor is FUBAR. Right as I ask him who could rebuild my motor on a budget I pull up to the picture window of AutoZone with the Super 88's high beams on and I honk the air horn. XP stares out the window at the sight of the car and his jaw just drops like a sack of potatoes. He drops the phone like a soldier in Normandy with Shell Shock and walks outside to see & hear the car at idle. For those of you fellow nerds who even care here's a couple videos, one of the car running for the first time in 23 years and the other of me driving it back to ther house from AutoZone. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Six...DSCN3920MOV.flv ------------- http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Six...DSCN3921MOV.flv ------------- So there you have it... I must have a Four Leaf Clover in my wallet or something. I started up a 42 year old car last night that has not run in almost a quarter century. Then drove it 13.0 miles just for the shock & awe factor, picked up lead addative, did a tune up & tinkered with the carb etc. It's getting better all the time!
  23. Yes indeed that was very depressing. The only reason I was not feeling sorry for myself was because 7 hours later this was happening: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v219/Six...DSCN3795MOV.flv What a machine.
