GM1: That's priceless. What a rude little Sonofabitch.

Thanks Enzora. I'm going to get one of those hats, skinny ties, starched shirts & a old school suit so I can freak people out while driving along in my Sitty-Fo' Supah Eighty-Eight.

Yeah... peple who own FWD Toyotas & Saturns usually don't like to burn rubber. This may be lame but that kid's an animal.

Photo: Two C&Gers W-bodies in same pic

Pretty cool. I can't beleive I did nto think to get a shot of my brick shaped Maxima next to any fellow C&Gers ride when I took my roadtrip to Penn & NJ last fall. I'd love to have a photo of the Datsun next to Camino's GTO or Balthy's scary looking COE. I parked almost right next to O.B.s' Rado. -
FWD cars that would have the biggest sales
Sixty8panther replied to regfootball's topic in The Lounge
Agreed Enzora... plus Fly is missing the sarcasm & implied sillyness of the examples of cars I posted. I was TRYING to make a point that you missed. RWD in compact cars was done for decades with bias-ply tires, no traction control and dinosaur-era suspension design. So why not now? -

I'd love to see a 21st century Toronado in FRONT or REAR wheel drive, but in any case make the engine mounted in a north-south configuration! As far as those cars on the list: most of them DON'T exist but that's not the point. They DID exist at one point and they sold well and were driven through the snow and sleet & slush and ice just like all the otehr RWD cars form the 60s & 70s. We're starving for RWD compacts these days, only Toyota & BMW seem willing to give us some. And I'd rather not buy a Lexus IS so that leaves me with BMW, BMW or BMW. -
Damn. forgot to use my sig.... Go little Corvette go... Oh-oh-OH-oh-oh!

My relationship with my girlfriend is kind of sketchy as of the past few days but between my wonderful little daughter who is a really great little person & my recent acquisition of a classic GM car means I can't complain too much.

Toronado was the only one of the three that was birthed with FWD. The Eldorado name was around for a decade & a half before the car was switched to FWD, Riviera was the one hold out of the three, it sucumbed to FWD in 1979. That aside the Toronado was cool FWD vehicle because it was developed in a time when FWD was a novelty... it was a very revolutionary setup that shared more with the Cord 810& Cord L-29 with their reverse mounted motors than with today's FWD transverse mounted cars. A RWD Eldorado would absolutely work today, so would a Riviera, the Toronado would seem a little weird with RWD but it wouild be less weird and "wrong" than a FWD Impala SS with a supercharged V6 or a FWD Grand Prix. Spoken like a true Californian. I never realised the BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-class, Lexus IS300, Datsun 510, pre-mid 80s Celicas, early 60s Pontiac Tempest, Chevy II, early 60s Buick Skylark, Olds F-85, Ford Falcon, Mercury Comet, BMW 2002, Datsun 210/610/810/Maxima, Hyundai Pony, Nash Metropolitan & about a million other compact cars with RWD were never driven through the snow or used in the poor winters of the northeast. [/sarcasm] Ever seen a movie that takes place in NYC in the winter from the 1970s? There's 14 inches of snow on the streets and there's an MGB-GT and a bunch of RWD Japanese cars sandwiched between a '62 Tempest & '73 BMW 2002 all with salt & snow up to their door handles. -
90% of the time I love them, but if I'm feeling vulnerable... like running outside in the pouring rain, it can be a little freaky. Last time we had a massive thunderstorm with lightning & thunder it was pretty cool and lasted only about 7 minutes but I was pissed because I was on route to Autozone with the Super 88 that one afternoon when I got it running. I thought to myself that at least if I get hit by lightning I'll be good since the Super's got more metal than five new Camrys.

Wow... on the one hand you're lucky to live in such a gorgeous home, I'm jelaous. On the other hand I never experienced a divorce and I'm sorry to hear you have to go through that. Difficult for sure, just keep your head up. -

OCNBLU: Great minds think alike. If either the Celica or the tC were to go RWD the rear wheel would have to be pushed forward about a foot, no rear overhang is never productive for RWD. Agreed... I think a RWD Cobalt would be awsome but if there was one Chevy except the Aveo that I would keep FWD (if I couldn't have an all RWD lineup) then it would be the Cobalt. But still, a 21st century Datsun 510 of some sort would be deeee-luxe. -
In 2001 when I visited Slovakia to see my relatives we had a rental Opel Astra 1.6 5-dr. What a great car. Worlds better build quality and fit & finish over the J-bodys we still had in the USA.

Smithsonian removes GM's EV1 electric car
Sixty8panther replied to douglask's topic in General Motors
The EV1 was a slap in the face of GM from everyone including the government. All the other manufacturer's dropped the ball while GM wokred their ass off and reinvented the wheel, just to have california say... "eh". -
Wow... I wish I had $5000 burning a hole through my pocket right now.

This thread cracks me up. So I was video taping myself doing slap shots in the backyard today and I realised it would be super cool if I put the Super 88 on 13s and dropped it like a bad habit. Then I could do it up in sparkle flake metallic candy apple penta-coat magenta chameleon 3M, and paint a mural of John Wayne on the hood. All joking aside the years I wish I could have lived through would be 1946 - 1972. That way I could drive awesome new cars like 1959 Buick Invicta Flat tops & it wopuld have been a comendable purchase in terms of practical, safe family transportation. at the same time have I could have had a few classics like a 1932 Cadillac V16 dual cowl phaeton. I could have special ordered a 1969 COPO Camaro in Glacier blue with a white interior and been a GOD at the local dragstrip with my inline-six powered base coupe lookalike with dog dish hubcaps. Now excuse me while I get dressed like this: and go for a nice slow ride in the Super 88 while listening to Jass on the "bass" settign of the AM.

When me and Marcia started dating I was still skeptical, then a voice out of her fireplace at her old rental house yelled at us clear as a bell after we... ummm, well you know. I was so sure I heard a voice I looked for a tape recorder or some other "non-supernatrual" explanataion. Then I find out the house was residence for Nuns back in the 16-hundreds. Creepy way of lettig you know pre- marital relations are not okay in their book.

What's this abotu a 69 G/P? Where? How much?
-
Yeah.... just like with my Super 88 you could not stop talking about it and therefore I KNEW the only thing to do was to convince you to but it. And you thought twice about calling the guy about taking a deposit. This car is tarp as a shack, so very elegant. Now it's official... THIGHT WHIPS IS IN FULL EFFECT!!! One more congrats is on order for the reorganization of the Lowell Chapter of Tight Whips. '96 Cobra ---> '81 Malibu '68 Camaro ---> '64 Super 88 '79 Coupe deVille ---> '71 Coupe deVille

Jezus these special edition 2nd gen. Pontiac F-bodys are plentyful. The Yellow Bird, Sky Bird & Red Bird are new to me as of last week when XP showed me one online.

Yeah that COLD button is boss. So is the red light on the P-brake that tells you not to roast your rear drums. Wow, 440 @2800 is pretty damn good. Thanks for the info again Balthazar. It may have been a hokey tag line but "ultra high compression" beats "Oh what a feeling" or "Zoom zoom , zoom" anyday.

Thanks. I did make that connection except for the fact that there was a question mark at the end....

Have fun... stay away from ticks & poison oak.

Exactly. It's a model year 1964 which means this car & its siblings came out around Sept. of 1963. Two months before Kennedy was shot. Dave: It's definitely not too late to switch to the High-Mileage oil. The 75,000 is just to give you an idea of when to start using it.
