  1. Johan De Nysschen has landed on his feet after being abruptly fired as President of Cadillac in April of 2018. JDN will take over as Chief Operating Officer of Volkswagen of America starting October 1st. This is not JDN's first experience with Volkswagen Automotive Grou (VAG), he was once a star executive in the Audi organization. He later moved on to Infiniti where he moved the headquarters to Hong Kong and renamed all the vehicles to the Q or QX designation. Infiniti has since moved back to Japan. Once his time at Infiniti was up, he moved on to become President of Cadillac. There, he moved Cadillac's headquarters to New York City for a time before being abruptly fired in April 2018. Cadillac has since moved their headquarters back to Detroit. During his first full year as Cadillac boss, 2015, Cadillac sales fell over 11%. "Johan will help make us faster, better and smarter. We reported last May that Cadillac was working on a new four and six-cylinder diesel engines that were being built with Europe in mind, but there was a chance of them being offered in the U.S. A few months later, the Volkswagen diesel emission crisis broke out. “We pulled that trigger before the current dilemma,” said de Nysschen about the future of Cadillac's diesel plans. “If you have gone that far in a program, you might as well carry it through.” de Nysschen's comments echo commitments made by other automakers. But Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen says autonomous vehicles shouldn't take away the act of driving to those who enjoy it. “Autonomous driving and driving passion must co-exist,” de Nysschen said to a group at the 10th annual J.D Power Automotive Marketing Roundtable in Las Vegas last week. “We’re after balance.” Standing in front of a picture of Google's autonomous prototype, de Nysschen said, “Many autonomous car (prototypes) emphasize sheer functionality. It would be a mind-numbing experience going from point A to B. My goodness, you might as well take the bus.” GM's plan with autonomous vehicles is to develop ones “enhance the joy of driving, but eliminate the tedious parts," such as the hassle of stop-and-go rush hour explain de Nysschen.   7. Cadillac's boss Johan de Nysschen has a plan to rehabilitate Cadillac's image. Part of this plan deals with the dealers with tightening inventory and end the sell-at-any-cost mentality. But as Automotive News reports, there is a slight problem as Cadillac's dealer incentive programs promote the opposite. One incentive attaches $700 in dealer bonus money to every Cadillac vehicle they order from the factory, while another has cash payouts for growing sales. “The business model has been structured more for the bigger brands inside General Motors, rather than the small Cadillac brand,” said de Nysschen. “The luxury business is different.” de Nysschen instead wants to give incentives to dealers “in terms of the overall support to the brand.” This could mean meeting certain marks in customer satisfaction scores or new requirements to have an adequate recruiting process.   9. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is known for slipping out little bits of information. Case in point was earlier today when an analyst in a Facebook group said Cadillac would axing the V8 from most of their models aside from Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade. Johan joined the discussion and went on to correct this by stating that there will be a new V8 engine that will be purpose built for Cadillac. In Johan's words, "There absolutely will be another state -of - the -art mega powerful highly efficient new 8- cylinder from Cadillac, besides the CTS- V engine. Purpose designed for Cadillac....the V8 Cadillac is alive and well today, and will be in even better shape tomorrow." Now, news of a forthcoming Cadillac V8 isn't breaking news. Johan has previously hinted at a twin-turbo V8 coming for the Cadillac CT6, but it was interesting to see Cadillac's President join in a Facebook discussion and give us more description of the engine. Speaking with Reuters, Johan de Nysschen spoke about what the future holds for the luxury brand. A key part of de Nysschen's plan for Cadillac is to expand the lineup with the introduction of five to ten models by 2020. One of those models is a range-topping luxury sedan that will go on sale at the end of the decade and likely will be called CT8 or CT9. This model will compete with the likes of long-wheelbase models and has been signed off by him. de Nysschen also talked and hinted at some of the other models in pipeline. These models include, Plug-In Hybrid version of the CT6 Successor to the ELR, but it might not be a two-door coupe Smaller crossover to sit underneath the SRX, along with a larger model Smaller sedan to sit underneath the ATS Industry sources tell Reuters that Cadillac has been quietly talking with them about the small and large crossover, along with the small sedan.   13. After spending two years at Infiniti, Johan de Nysschen has stepped down from his position as President and become the president of Cadillac. The news was announced yesterday in a press release by General Motors. In his new role, the 54-year-old will be responsible "for all aspects of Cadillac globally." “Johan brings to our company vast experience in the development and proper execution of luxury automotive brands. With over 20 years in this exact space, especially in the development of the Audi brand, his track record proves he is the perfect executive to lead Cadillac for the long term,” said GM President Dan Ammann. “I have for some time now been impressed by how the new General Motors has been transformed into a formidable force in the industry. The combination of strong corporate leadership and exceptional engineering resources presents the perfect combination to restore Cadillac to its place among global premium brands." said de Nysschen. “The recognition of the brand is immense, and the progress on the fundamental product front is widely acclaimed. Ferguson, 54, joined GM in 2010 as Vice President for Global Public Policy and served in that position through October 2012. He is credited with helping GM strengthen its position on Capitol Hill, and with its many regulatory agencies, on a wide range of business challenges related to energy, tax, labor, and finance policy. Ferguson was tapped by then-GM CEO Dan Akerson to head Cadillac's global marketing team. During that time, Cadillac saw nearly 30 percent global growth, highest among all full-line luxury brands, and U.S. growth of 22 percent. Cadillac's 66 percent growth in the white-hot China luxury market resulted in record sales of 50,000 units, putting the brand on a path to double sales there in two years. Prior to joining GM, Ferguson was at the business advisory and strategic communications firm Public Strategies, where he worked with a diverse and international group of clients as a senior strategist. Before joining Public Strategies, Ferguson spent more than 10 years as an executive at AT&T, where he served as the president of state legislative and regulatory affairs and also as group president and CEO of SBC's Enterprise Business Services. Ferguson, who succeeds Selim Bingol, also will serve as Chairman of the GM Foundation and oversee the philanthropic organization's contribution to the communities where GM employees live and work. Ferguson's replacement at Cadillac will be named later.
