    Rumorpile/Spying: 400 HP S60 Anyone?

    Volvo's marketing campaign for the new S60 is going down a dark route. Instead of talking about how safe it is, Volvo is talking about how sporty and "Naughty" the S60 is. And it appears Volvo is upping the naughty a bit, if a report and some spy shots come to fruition.

    Sweden’s Tekniken Svarld reports that Volvo and performance partner, Polestar are working together to build high performance S60. Rumor points to a Yamaha sourced V8 that Volvo uses in the XC90 SUV and S80 flagship. The V8 has been tuned to somewhere in the range of 400 HP.

    Tekniken Svarld goes onto say that the S60 could get a sequential transmission, light-weight materials, and a new body kit.

    Which leads us to some spy shots that Tekniken Svarld nabbed of an S60 wearing some handsome camouflage. The pictures show this S60 sitting much wider than a normal model and equipped with bigger fenders and wider wheels.

    Is this the high-performance S60 undergoing some tests? No one is sure at the moment.

    Nice! Must be kinda nose-heavy though...

    I'm thinking so. I think Autoblog speculated that the T6 engine that is used in the S60 R-Design could also be used. Maybe that would help alleviate some of that nose weight

    That's the engine I was expecting to be used. Hopefully the AWD will be strongly rear-biased.

      That reminds me of the 80's and 90's GM V8 motors, sucky for HP but Low end torque to move the autos along smoothly.

      Auto folks need to realize that not everyone wants an auto and would rather live in the city and use bike paths to get around and let their kids play. To achieve that, Cities are going to have to invest in safe private bike / pedestrian roads.  IMHO, the day of Bikes using the same road as autos has long been over.

      The 2.8 liter V6. Very complex 30 valve engines. Not the most powerful at a modest 190 hp, but buuuutter smooth and surprising low end torque.

      Had a manager back then w/ a '98 or '99 Passat wagon w/ AWD and V6...was a nice car.

      Urban hiking in Montreal is awesome. Lots of locals bitch about our bike paths. And to a certain degree, they would be correct as bike paths have taken over. And as an automobilist in Montreal...yeah.   BUT...what most automobilists in Montreal have failed to realize that the people, the young families that CHOSE to  ACTUALLY LIVE in the city centers ENJOY those bike paths. The safety and the ease of biking anywheres in the city centers with their KIDS enjoying the OUTDOORS.  Montreal was ALWAYS a walkable city until the cars invaded. The walkable and bike-able paths fought back to re-acquire what was rightfully theirs before the automobile made its appearance.    And this is not even on the mountain. The mountain has its own natural preserved beauty.  This is in Anjou. A  burrough to the north east of the island.
