During the hustle and bustle of the LA Auto Show this week, Chrysler made announcement at their Toledo North Assembly Plant on Wednesday. The company announced they would invest 1.7 billion dollars into the plant to build the replacement for the Jeep Liberty.

The investment will have $500 million going towards the renovation of the plant which will include 260,000 square feet added to the body shop, upgrade the facility, and add a Metrology Center which will make sure fit-and-finish standards are being met for vehicles. The investment also covers a new second shift for the plant which will create 1,100-plus positions.

The renovations will take place before the close of 2011 and the second shift will come online sometime in 2013.

The next Jeep Liberty... it had better not be a transverse engine, FWD biased crossover, or that will be the end of it. Jeep ® needs to remain simple, honest, rugged, and Trail Rated. *bites nails*

Looks like I need to put up or shut up SOON, because the future's looking cloudy.

Good to hear about the investment at Toledo. I haven't read anything about the plans for the Liberty's platform. I have read that a Fiat platform will be used for the next Compass/Patriot. Maybe they will develop a scaled-down version of the GC platform for the Liberty...

Glad you have owned two Jeep product since this, and glad they are still building Jeeps in Toledo. Looked at a few Jeeps at the dealership yesterday... Jeep makes me proud to be from Ohio.

    • I am not aware of travel cases for internal drives. Usually you have the drive and once you have made sure you own static electricity is discharged on your body, open the computer and unplug the power cable and data cable to the HD. Then you unscrew the screws holding the drive in. Put the drive into an Anti-Static bag and then usually into a box that has foam padding on all sides to protect the drive and then tape it up to close it.  With both drives in their proper storage bags, you can then have both drives in between foam insulation for handling any dropping of the box, etc. Pack them in a box and tape shut, should then easily handle going through your carry on or checked in luggage. To ship a hard drive, you need to: Secure the hard drive in its original packaging or anti-static bag. If you don't have an anti-static bag, place the drive into a zipped freezer bag to prevent any moisture getting into the drive during transit. Sandwich the drive between foam or wrap it in bubble wrap to absorb any minor shocks. Put the hard drive in a padded shipping box. Close and seal the box. Label your package.
