    Mitsubishi is Ramping Up Their U.S. Lineup

      What's in the cards for Mitsubishi?

    Mitsubishi is starting to find its footing thanks to the alliance it formed with Nissan towards the end of 2016. The company last year that it plans on "launching 11 new and redesigned models" for the U.S. Two of the models have go on sale this year, the Eclipse Cross and Outlander Plug-In Hybrid. But what about the other nine? Motor Trend has learned some details on a fair number of vehicles in the cards.

    • Outlander: Redesign coming in 2021 and will use the underpinnings of the Nissan Rogue,
    • Outlander Sport: To be redesigned in 2022. Will be based on the platform that is used on the Nissan Rogue Sport and upcoming Kicks.
    • Hybrid/Electric Models: Mitsubishi is planning to offer a plug-in hybrid or pure electric powertrain for all of their models. 
    • Possible Midsize Truck: The number one request of Mitsubishi's U.S. dealers is a midsize truck. Mitsubishi is reportedly studying a truck for the U.S. But for the truck to get approval, it needs to make sense for the alliance to move forward. If approved, the truck would likely be built in the U.S. to avoid the chicken tax.

    Sounds like they have had an agreement w/ Renault and Nissan since 2017.   Nissan acquired a controlling interest in Mitsubishi Motors in 2016.

    The impression I got from speaking with Nissan was they were specifically holding off on releasing the redesigned Frontier because it still sells well and pretty close to sticker price.  There are rarely any incentives on that truck.  So, Nissan is amortizing the costs of the existing truck as long as possible. It is currently built in Canton Mississippi.

    It would make some decent sense to make a Mitsubishi version of the truck and also build it at Canton.  Give it a mildly unique interior and a front face transplant and it would likely be sufficient for Mitsu at this point.

    Even if they just let Mitsu have the current truck with some updated engines (Really Nissan... it's time) while Nissan goes with an all new design built in the same plant. That could work too.  

    The Frontier is a solid little hauler and I'd consider one if they'd offer some decent incentives on it.

      Canadians are pissed with this and this is breaking news... Jeep will sell all the Jeeps they can in Canada as Canadians love their Jeeps. Just like other folk in the world. But...this makes for an interesting negotiation between Trump and Carney. Carney prefers negotiations over retaliations.   There is an offer on the table for nixing Canadian tariffs on Chinese EVs.   Why did I say negotiations to be interesting with Trump? Because Jeep leaving Canada, that does not leave too much enthusiasm for us Canadians to start thinking about our Canadian auto industry...saving it...as if GM and Ford do the same, there is no Canadian auto industry to be saved...so...there would ONLY BE ONE OPTION...to save the Canadian auto industry. And that would be to go to China... And if we go to China and let Chinese EVs not only to be sold here, but to be built here as well...Trump will need to comprehend that Detroit's...the US' auto industry... will be no more.   Canada has always pivoted AWAY from the US since March when Trump started threatening Canada. This is just another area where Canada just pivots away from the US.   There is something that I had to read in school... no man is an island? I cant remember the details but yeah...

      Not even for a million $ american.  Thank you very much.  But no thanx.  But...come visit Montreal and I will treat you to any meal you want.   You like Montreal famous smoked meat?   You like pizza?  There is NY style pizza, Chicago style pizza but there is also Montreal style pizza that nobody talks about. But if you know, you know.  Bagles? NY bagels...but also Montreal bagel. Heck, stay for a bit and I ill treat you to everything. Take you sight seeing.  I proposed this to ccap but Im retreating that proposal.  He could stay where he is at.

Trump slashes $100M from Kentucky battery project, reportedly weighing further cuts This will not help Stellantis, so many people are unhappy over the plastic junk quality of RAM, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler that moving all production to the U.S. is a lost cause on top of hurting Canada and jobs lost, this is going to get ugly. Ontario premier criticizes Trump after Stellantis says it will move production from Canada to the US
