Electric vehicle infrastructure news has been booming in the last few weeks and months. Last week, Choice Hotels announced they would be rolling out EV charging at most of their properties following similar announcements by Marriott and Hilton back in September, in December Pilot / Flying J and General Motors Partnership opened their first 17 High-Speed Charging Locations, and IONNA, a charging network founded by seven auto manufacturers, commenced operations earlier this month. In a recent press release about store remodels, Walmart announced they would be building a charging network of their own, beginning with 650 stores slated for remodeling in 2024 and another …

G. David Felt Alternative Fuels & Propulsion writer www.CheersandGears.com In looking at my other love , BIG RIGS, I came across this video online and found more info from Walmart about their new WAVE Semi. http://blog.walmart.com/the-future-of-fleet-efficiency Walmart has teamed up with Peterbilt, Great Dane Trailers and Capstone Turbine to create a modern 21st century Semi. The new Carbon Fiber truck is 20% more aerodynamic than a standard semi and with 6000 trucks on the road daily, this alone reduces fuel use by a large factor. The great thing about the Turbine motor is that it can run on Diesel, LNG, CNG or Bio-Diesel. The all in one vehicle syste…

In a vague press release today, automobile supplier Magna announced they have signed a contract with a North American based vehicle manufacturer to produce a high-power, electrified, rear-drive unit for a high-end vehicle at an unnamed brand, with production commencing "in the next couple of years". While details of the vehicle are cagey, there are some clues as to where the drive unit might end up. Based on Magna's eDS Duo, the unit will utilize 800v architecture and be capable of roughly 974 horsepower and a mind-blowing 5,900 lb-ft of torque. Comprised of 2 motors, 2 gearboxes, and 2 inverters, the drive unit is built to be placed at the rear axle, but unlike Mag…

G. David FeltAlternative Fuels & Propulsion writerwww.CheersandGears.com What could the Tesla Truck look like? Stories are flying all over the internet, many folks are just loving the Hyper chatter that Musk brings when he talks about something very cryptic. I went in search of what this truck was, could be and found nothing firm but plenty of pictures. Clearly some are photoshops of old concepts especially the GMC truck, that I have always loved. Review them below including what Chris Doane has done and then sound off on what your thoughts are about an EV truck, style, etc.

If you subscribe to the "Global Warming" Hypothesis and will like to purchase a low CO2 emitting vehicle because you believe that the current but of global climate change is abnormal and androgynous, and want to do your part to change, that skip this post. This is about the economics of Hybrids, not their affinity to the aforementioned environmental activism rally cry. Mild Hybrids -- 11.2 years to break even on investment The Mild Hybrid uses a overpowered alternator motor or a similar arrangement to create an ~2mpg (based on Chevy Mailbu numbers) advantage over a conventional engine by shutting down the engine while idling, and for a small amount of power assist and…

bp-stats-review-2018-full-report.pdf https://www.bp.com/en/global/corporate/energy-economics/statistical-review-of-world-energy.html Here are the highlights from the BP Stats review of World Energy: Global energy demand accelerated in 2017 by 2.2 percent. A 17 percent gain in clean power such as solar and wind did little to offset the dominance of fossil fuels in the rapidly expanding global economy. Demand for hydrocarbons rose across the board, led by a 3 percent increase in natural gas consumption, the fastest since 2010. Demand for oil rose 1.8 percent, far more than in the previous 10 years. Use of coal increased for the firs…

XFC Reality - Xtreme Fast Charging Tesla is the current GOLD standard of EV auto charging. Their roughly 400 North American Charging stations handle 120-140 kWh charging that allows Tesla to brag about their 90 kWh battery packs recharging in 1hr compared to 10 hrs for a Nissan Leaf, 8hr for a Chevrolet Bolt if you home charge. Tesla's customers have had this perk and until now been able to brag about it. Tesla made sure they had this by using a proprietary plug that kept other EV auto's from using the Tesla Network. In comes IONITY, the European group consisting of Porsche, VW, BMW, Daimler and Ford. This is a 400 plus Xtreme Fast Charger network being bu…

One of the world leading DC High Voltage EV Relays companies out of South Korea showed off their latest products at the battery fair in China last week. But this is just a small piece in comparison to what they have already delivered to the world. The 400 and 600 amp along with the 1000V 100 amp relays will enhance high speed charging of cars and solar panel installations worldwide. Yet so much more is also available. The EVH1000 is focused on the Solar industry where the EVH400A and 600A is focused on rapid charging of the electric auto industry. They also have the EVH1000A that one has to make the assumption Porsche is using for their car as it would support …

G. David Felt Alternative Fuels & Propulsion writer www.CheersandGears.com Zero Emission Auto's, are they truly Greener than Gas? Many people here know me as a CNG person. Some will say electric is greener than CNG and Gas. We know CNG is cleaner than GAS, but is pure electric truly greener than CNG or gas? I have talked about how much CO2 is produced during the battery building stage for these pure electric cars. I have also pointed out that in places where Coal is used for creating energy, electric is dirty compared to CNG or Gas. Yes living in the Pacific Northwest, Washington has an abundance of Hydro and wind power, so Electric cars are very …
