:::::::: Scavenger Hunt ::::::::

Recommended Posts

WHO: The Charter Members of T.W.s (68panther, XP715 & SpeedingPenguin) & anyone else from T.W./C&G

WHERE: New England Area, start & end points will be T.W. H.Q. in 01824

WHEN: Saturday, February 3rd 2007. The plan is a six hour window: 8:00am to 2:00pm

WHY: Why not? Grab a digital camera, top off your gas tank & let's hit the road!

THE CHALLENGE: Be the one to score the most points & win the game by photographing as many things on

the Scavenger Hunt list as possible. The original list was written up in July of 2006 and has been updated &

expanded several times since then. An official, final version will be posted here just before the contest begins

probably next Friday night.

Here's a few examples of things that MIGHT be on the list:

1. Any Cadillac with a mismatched body panel (i.e. Blue Bustleback w/ white door)

2. Water tower shaped like a UFO

3. Toyota Prius with a missing hubcap, broken off side mirror or smashed windshield.

4. Colapsed Bridge

5. Japanese car with a C.B. anteana .

So basically at 8:00am we all depart with our individual digital camera's empty memory cards. There is NO

limitation to where you can travel or what means of transportation you use. If you want to head straight out

west via Rt.2 then that's fine, or if you want to drive all over Boston Proper or Maine or R.I. that's fine so long

as you get back in time. In other words, theoretically you can only drive out about 175 miles away assuming

2.5 hours in one direction averaging 70 miles an hour, and then you have to double back.

We reconvene at 1:00pm with our (full?) digital cameras of as many photos as we could find. Different items

will be worth varying points. For instance, a Cordoba T-top with a Rusty Jones sticker might be worth 100

points whereas a photo of a Camry w/ a parking ticket will only be worth 5 points. Then again a 1980s Diesel

Oldsmobile with white walls, curb feelers & a vanity plate might be worth 1,000,000 points.

There will be several CR4ZY "instant winner" items on the list. The last one is not a real example but it's close.

Also: some HUGE event caught on camera, like a Prius on fire or the aftermath of a plane crash will be worth

about 100,000 points as to be determined by the Validation commitee, which consists of the Charter Members.

More details to follow :spin:

Darn, sorry. It's hard enough tryting to coordinate with XP & SP. :(

I think we're going to hold these Scavenger Hunts every 1/4 or so.

Pretty Much every season, this is the Winter one, then we'll have

one in the spring (April?) one in the summer (July) and so on...

Anyone else in the N.E. interested?

....& BTW, somethime this summer I want to do a T.W./C&G "BBBQ"

the extra B is for BYOBB

and the other extra B is for Bustleback! the official FWD car of T!@ht Wh1p$!

Reminds me of geocaching. Anyone ever try it? my bro does it and i think its more fun just being led to the general area and going from there (he usually follows his little gps around)

Geocaching? Never heard of it... fill us in C4U.

its where you go to this website, Geo Caching, and look for your area (youd be suprised how many people do this and also plant geo caches) and it ll tell you what caches are on your set radius and the hints and cooardinates to it. I myself prefer to just be lead to the area (usually by my brother) and then use the hints (much like waht youre doing) its much more fun this way. When we went to Yellowstone this was a fun break as were cruising. Be aware some pople get really addicted, i myself prefer to just go whenever .

Edit: i forgot to metnion the important part,

Each cache is usually camoufloged to its surroundings and soemtimes very hard to find. Its always funny to find the hard ones cause often times you glance over 'em a 100 times. The caches usually contain soemthing you can trade soemthing else for (ive gotten knives, collector coins, etc.).

Geocaches are usually set in a area with a scenic view or any other area of importance.

Some examples of caches ive found,

a key holder (these are called micros that just contain where you put your username down) that was tied to the inside top of a top to like a fence, like those little ball things that can pop off.

A birdhouse that was full of bird feed that had a cache hid in it.

A eletrical box mounted to a pole that had a fake wire running into the ground, inside the eltrical box was a micro.

Heres wikipedias explanation, Wiki- Geo Caching

That's so much more official & elaborate than looking for random $hit on the

side of the road & in people's front yerds like we're doing. Cool concept

though, first time I'm hearing about it. Thanks.

Hey...you're in Chelmsford. We stopped there for a bite to eat on our way up to Bar Harbor, ME a few years ago. My mom went funny over how "quaint" she thought it was.

I'd like to take part in the scavenger hunt, but...428 miles is a bit of a hurdle to jump even with a car. I can say that I've seen #s 1,3, and 5 before, though.

You probably ate at Skip's Diner, right off of Exit 34 off 495.

It looks quite a bit like an old school diner from the 1950s.

Too bad they don't hold car shows or anything. Although we

did see a MINT '67? Toyota 2000GT there recently.

It had Maine plates and god damn it looked better than any

other Toyota ever made. I would have traded my Super 88

for this little Jaguar E-type rippoff. Today's Toyota sucks

so much just compared to what they used to make in the

1960s and 1970s... the 2000GT is a much cooler car than

any Lexus ever made.

Something is better than nothing. At least get one with three boobs.

I'd say to throw Satty's grandma on the list, but everybody's seen her a time or two.. :AH-HA_wink:

Experience counts the most. She sure will be a show-stopper.

Sixty8Panther account is once again under control of its rightful owner.

(note to self: hijack S.P.'s account sometime soon)

I can NOT beleive S.P. posted that retarded photo of my acting like a

complete Deuchebag on that POS Honda bike. And he did it on MY laptop

signed in as myself. Not to mention the other photo with me in that 1/3

scale red 1930s car. How will anyone ever take me seriously!?:P

Anyway this works out quite well since your camera's "date stamp" is

yellow while mine has an orange one. Here's some of my highlights.

Posted Image

Antique Sleds. :)

Posted Image

That's why I was running down the breakdown lane of Rt.93!

Cause there was fresh meat: a bumper cover, left after the

previous day's seemingly inevidable snow related accidents.

Posted Image

"Z-Lock" or O'Shea, or as you know him "SpeedingPenguin".

I'd trust this crazy @$$hole with my life. He's a true friend.

Although I had my camera with me and took backup shots

& what not, 70% of our photos he's responsible for... he

was the camera man on this mission, I was the driver.

Posted Image

Posted Image

To get a good shot of that cell phone/radio tower I had to

do some rock climbing. I do NOT suggest you ever trying

this when the rocks, grass & asphalt is covered with solid

ice and 6" of snow.

Posted Image

Those retarded photos of me walking on the ice are not

that funny if you were not there to see this sign right by

where I stepped onto the ice.

Posted Image

And here I am on the ice taking a pic of S.P. as he is

taking a pic of myself. classic T.W.C.C. moment.

Posted Image

Last time I was at this observation tower it was like my

junior year of H.S. so it's been over a decade. I just

happened to think of it as we were making evasive

manouvers on the highway in an attempt to photograph

those nutcases who were ice fishing. Total spur of the

moment, threw on my blinker, took that exit & found

it on the first try.

Posted Image

The view was well worth it, IMHO.

I'll post many more tomorrow, or later this morning as it may be. 8)

I keep forgetting what model this is, but it's in good shape. More importantly, the owner drives this baby every day.

Posted Image

How's this for a collapsed bridge? This thing has been there for years..they just built a new one next to it. It's down the street from Tom Manzi Dodge in Lawrence

Posted Image

This clock tower and it's building were restored by and are now the corporate headquarters of New Balance.

Posted Image

Near North Andover is this fuuny sight. It's a NASCAR (replica maybe) on top of some building...I forget what the building is.

Posted Image

No idea what kinda car this is, but it looks neat and was next to the NASCAR building behind a fence. Anyone care to name it?

Posted Image

A 50's style Diner...it's been there that long anyway...the food is pretty good too. Also in Lawrence, towards the Andover line.

Posted Image

An old ass truck from the 50's I would guess....Chevy maybe? It has a plow on it for the winter...though I don't think it moves around much.

Posted Image

The word says it all :P

Posted Image

One of many cars in Lawrence with mismatched fenders...parked the wrong way too.

Posted Image

...yet I got pretty close to the door to take a picture :P

Posted Image

Another common sight in Lawrence. The woman who lives in teh house on the left actually bought this...I wonder what they will do to it.

Posted Image

How's that for a water tower? :AH-HA_wink:

Yep...that "peace" sign is made with electrical tape.

Posted Image

Creative...there was a dog mailbox too.

Posted Image

Top this stone bridge...it's over 100 years old.

Posted Image

Recently knocked down and rebuilt...they have good veggies at this farm stand in Salem, NH.

Posted Image

Anyone interested?

Posted Image

I'm so bummed I couldn't get a better photo of this car. To much traffic to go slow. It's for sale and in excellent shape and it looks beautiful...anyone know what it is?

Posted Image

This just looks cool...still under construction.

Posted Image

Retired Caprice cop car that's still got the cop paint job...I snagged this at McDonald's just as the guy was leaving :P

Posted Image

Check this cool wagon out.

Posted Image

I took a photo of this because I think it may be a T-top...not sure though.

Posted Image

I took this because it is the very first refreshed Durango I have seen on the road so far!

Posted Image

$500 For this beauty (the tiny van). Any takers? BV? :P It's been there forever (surprise it has no takers)

Posted Image

Sadly this is a crappy photo...tough to take going 40 mph. It's 3 of teh same cars...GM's but I'm not sure what kind.

Posted Image

Windmills :P

Posted Image

A sweet find, it's a Barracuda! This one has a hood scoop unlike mine.

Posted Image

It's a BIG hood scoop

Posted Image

In good shape too.

Posted Image

In the same lot was a Porsche Carrera

Posted Image

A badge many of us would like to grace the cars we owned.

Jessica took those for pics, they're pretty sweet...she's the one who noticed the Porsche too!

Posted Image

While leaving from that lot back to R110, I snagged a pic of this lovely truck :P

Posted Image

This is the car that asshole mechanic told me that "it wasn't for me". f@#ker <_< Anyway, it's a Volvo...dunno what kind though. Any guesses?

Posted Image

El Camino! Dunno if it's an SS or not though.

Posted Image

This is a real treasure...to bad these things are just rotting away. The Tow truck (I think a Dodge) must run though, I've seen it moved around...the guy tried to sell it once.

Posted Image

Another picture of the vehicles. Next to the tow truck is the remnants of a Charger. DUnno what the other cars are. There was also another Charger that must have been put away for teh winter...same body style but in much better shape with new paint and stuff.

How old school is that tractor?

And finally....the piece de resistance! I dare anyone to find something better than what we did.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

We drove right into the dealership to snag photos of this. It's a 1928 Dodge Brothers. According to teh window, it runs ands drives (and I have seen it moved around). They want $5,500 for it. I think we should all pitch and make it the official car of Tight Whips! How often will you come across something like this...at a used car dealership?!

--

It was a fun day overall. Jessica drove while I road shotgun as the camera man. She pointed out some cool stuff like the tractor, the HORNE sign, and the Porsche, and snagged some pics herself. She also did an good job at going slow enough for me to take (or retake) the photos, which sometimes involved double-backing. I gotta say that for an old digital camera these photos came out surprisingly well, and not blurry either. The Intrepid did a good job itself. Although now it's dirty as hell and needs gas :P Here's to the next scavenger hunt!

That Volvo appears to be a P1800, which are beautiful cars, especially in shooting brake form. A few years ago there was s tory about a P1800 coupe that a dude had been driving pretty much forever and the car had over 2 million miles on it.

Ebay has one in the same color you posted.

I have no idea why I thought "Skinner Moore" sounded so funny.

Maybe cause it sounds like a nickname for a big schlong.

The copper mailbox is ubber-cool too. Mean time I just decided

to make an executive decision and throw up three other photos

instead like three sec. after I talked to you. Hope you do not

mind Buddy.

The Honda Minivan Rice with Anti-Honda propaganda, tow truck

pulling an Excursion by the REAR axle & GMC Suburban Diesel

seemed like they were just as worthy of inclusion.

Also I realized how much of a dumbass I am. Last night you told

me that all your photos were downloaded on MY laptop, didn't

So why didn't you participate dude...?

Keep in mind we took all these photos in the course of 5 hours. 9am-2pm on Sat.

I know where to find one of almost everything on the list, but we did not have

time to drive 380 miles to getr it all.

Hey there, we noticed you're using an ad-blocker. We're a small site that is supported by ads or subscriptions. We rely on these to pay for server costs and vehicle reviews.  Please consider whitelisting us in your ad-blocker, or if you really like what you see, you can pick up one of our subscriptions for just $1.75 a month or $15 a year. It may not seem like a lot, but it goes a long way to help support real, honest content, that isn't generated by an AI bot.

See you out there.
