I still remember seeing my first 1978 Monte Carlo, a light blue Landau, at the Chevy dealership in Chestertown, MD. They were so small and different and shocking after the giant '77s. Looking at the single rectangular headlights (legal in Europe long before here) I remember thinking "Opel", and it was cool seeing a kinship with Euro GM cars. It was a Brave New World. Looking back now... how quaint. I was 13 years old.

I'd leave it a V6 just to keep it origional. Why chop a perfectly good car.

IMHO, the '78-80 were probably the ugliest of Montes, followed by the '00-05. Those side creases that looked good on the '73-77 just looked very awkward on the hunched up downsized model. The '78-80 Grand Prix, Cutlass, and Regal were much better looking midsize personal luxury coupes.
