Chrysler News: Spying: Chrysler 100 Hatchback

Back in January, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed to USA Today that the company was considering a small premium hatchback for Chrysler to possibly be called the 100. Well, Inside Line has gotten their hands on some spy shots of what could be the 100.

Hidden underneath a mishmash of Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Chrysler parts lies the same platform that underpins the Giulietta and upcoming Dodge Dart. The mule wears a Chrysler grill, different exhaust, and different rear bumper which reveals the 100 will likely be longer than the Dart.

This writing was on the wall since the 200 was designated. Just hope Chrysler does this right... this is a slippery slope to turning the Chrysler brand into DeStoto or Plymouth...

A good strategy. It's basically what GM is doing with Buick, which has been working pretty well. Plus, if its using a different body style than the Dart so it'll help further differentiate it.

A good strategy, as Chrysler really needs more product, but GM's Buick plan is starting to trend downward... Buick has had 4 months of consecutive months of year-over-year sales losses and has failed to clear the 200K yearly sales point for about a decade. I'm amazed that Chrysler is outselling Buick in NA by about 50K units a year with 2~3 fewer products.

But... what about Fiat and Alfa...? Fiat is going to need some vehicles above the 500 and Alfa's lineup is just the Mito, Giulietta, and dead-man-walking 159.

From what I see, it is still an ugly rebadge of the ugly Fiat's.

Fiat I think will not make it in the US. They can try all they want, but their auto offering is still way to European for the US and way to small.

This on top of the fact that I have not seen one that I thouht was quality built and the few sold in the seattle market seem to spend plenty of time in the shop for repairs. Their owners are looking to see what they can trade them in for.

Do we even know for sure it will be a hatchback? This looks almost exactly the same as the mule for the Dart, which of course looked turned out to be a sedan, and looked completely different.
