Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado To Be Exported to China

General Motors will begin importing the Colorado and Silverado pickups into China next year, but you'll only be able to buy them in select markets.

Automotive News explains that many Chinese cities have bans on pickups for the fear of aggravating air pollution and causing more traffic issues. But earlier this year, the Chinese Government lifted the ban in four provinces - Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, and Yunnan - in an effort to jumpstart sales of domestic pickups. GM sees an opportunity with this and wants to explore it. But there is a major downside to this. Since GM will be importing the trucks, they'll be hit with 25 percent tariff by the Chinese Government.

Chevrolet to Offer Iconic Silverado, Colorado Trucks for Chinese Consumers

  • Brand’s best-selling nameplate and its midsize sibling to go on sale in 2017

GUANGZHOU – Chevrolet announced this evening at an event in Guangzhou that it will make available two classic American trucks – the Silverado and Colorado – in China through parallel import in 2017.

The Silverado is the best-selling Chevrolet truck in the world. Since its launch in 1987, three generations have been introduced, with cumulative sales of more than 17 million units.

Powered by an EcoTec3 6.2L V-8 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Silverado delivers peak torque of 624 Nm. It is also equipped with a wide range of smart technologies such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA), as well as power seats and a Bose® audio system. With its wheelbase of 3,645 mm and length of 5,843 mm, it can handle the toughest jobs expected of a pickup.

The Colorado was the industry’s hottest-selling product in the U.S. market. It was named the 2015 and 2016 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.

The midsize pickup offers a combination of refinement, maneuverability and efficiency. Powered by a 3.6L EcoTec V-6 engine, it delivers peak torque of 365 Nm and has a towing capability of 3.1 tons.

Chevrolet has long been famous for offering the most durable trucks on the market, which embody the charm of freedom while providing an off-road capability.

Pretty much the local makes already have black market imported, they have the design specs, and are already geared up for production of copy cats.

Expect to see a Denali copycat dealer near you.

Probably what will happen, is that even the manufacture and assembly of the pickup's will got to China.

Yup, buy your big rig F-350 from China. Your Duramax Diesel from China. Your guts and glory RAM from China. Don't we all just love CHINA?

Time to hit China back, 25% tariff on our stuff, 25% tariff on your Chinese made stuff.

Equal fair fees on the product.

A price war with China would have disastrous short term effects, but in the long-run, like a decade or more would probably make America more like it's former self where it was a manufacturing powerhouse.

I live in Toronto, Ontario, and there's a bloody rustbelt in all the working class neighborhoods, you see the degradation with your own eyes, FOR LEASE signs everywhere. The wealth of the former America has allowed so much of the world to become developed.

I digress no more, I think GM will ultimately fail in this endeavor, or if they succeed, then, well China will ultimately steal once more another place where the domestics are very strong.

Chinese makes will then have a leg up selling their badge engineered wares here, whereas makes like Nissan who try to still be original with their trucks shake their heads as to how stupid American trade deals are for Americans.

Lots of interesting stuff happening as GM by divisions starts to release more info on their EV programs.
First is a interesting video on their Ultium batteries. This clearly shows how versatile they can build the battery packs.

They have released a video of a side profile of the new Chevrolet Bolt morphing into the Bolt EUV. I was able to download the video and as such, way more visual detail than on the posted web sites below are showing.

Have to say the upcoming update to the Chevrolet Bolt and the EUV is nice looking and should sell even better than the old Bolt. Truly a much more CUV look.

This week, Hagerty obtained a document from General Motors' executive director in charge of program management, Michelle Braun that says development on future car and truck programs has been paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But the document also mentions some intriguing information on upcoming powertrains for the C8 Corvette. Here are the details,
Corvette Z06: 5.5L DOHC V8 known as the LT6 that will produce 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. No mention of any type of forced-induction. Corvette Gran Sport: 6.2L OHC V8 with a hybrid system that's expected to produce 600 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Corvette ZR1: Twin-Turbo 5.5L DOHC V8, dubbed LT7. Output is expected to be 850 horsepower and 800 pound-feet. Corvette Zora: The powerhouse of the C8, it will take the Twin-Turbo LT7 and augment with a hybrid system. This is expected to produce 1,000 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Hagerty's report says the rollout of the new engines will begin in 2022 with the LT6, but the COVID-19 outbreak may push the plans back.

According to MotorTrend, fords Mach e while pissing off the mustang faithful has already sold out all production for America and Europe for the first year. As such with GM having a flexible EV platform and considerable new EVs coming over the next 3 years, this begs the question of Could GM produce a Camaro EV CUV and call it the Z28? With the first nine auto's off the EV platform to be a Cadillac, one has to wonder how GM might fit the sporty performance into their product line and having a performance CUV Camaro could be the magic ticket.
To quote the MotorTrend story: we'd expect a Chevy Camaro electric SUV to at least match the 255 horsepower Ford is targeting for the base Mustang Mach-E. For higher-trim variants, Chevy would likely have to adopt a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup to stay competitive with the 332-hp, 417-lb-ft Mach-E 4 and 459-hp, 612-lb-ft Mach-E GT.
