Costco has killer deal on new Dell 16" touchscreen laptop with 32gb ram and 1tB SSD coming up for the holidays.

So my sister needs a new laptop and asked if I could use my employee discount to get her a good deal. I was more than happy to help, but after looking at the Dell Web Site and what Costco has coming up, it is clearly better to buy via Costco for the actual laptop.

So here is the cost via dell.com

Here is the same laptop currently at Costco or via their website.

Here is the upcoming November 28th Holiday Sale by Costco.

I did notice that Costco has raised the Warehouse Price, but the discount still saves an additional $150 dollars.

I do really need a new laptop (or somebody to clear it and start fresh), but I don't use it enough to justify anything close to this price.

I understand what you are saying, yet so many people pay 300 to 500 for a laptop that has bare minimal hardware and then a couple years later they are having to look for another laptop. This is one that should last a good 10 years for people.

My dad always told me that saving up to buy a quality product over the instant gratification of something new that can last a good long time is important and I have lived by that. It pays off in the long run.

If you can find your installation media, always good to export bookmarks and data files you want to save onto a USB drive and then do a clean install. It is amazing how well the computer will run even after going through all the updates again if windows based.

Other thing is save your data and bookmarks and install Rocky Linux or FreeBSD and learn a bit about the Linux side and have a lean running computer.

😂😂😂

Not with the way Microsoft updates security hardware requirements with every new OS. There are so many systems less than 10 years old today that can't run Windows 11 for those very reasons. That is a trend that is not likely to improve in the next 10 years, especially with Intel running on Trump bucks these days.

Fro the record, my wife's $1100 (at the time of purchase) HP touchscreen laptop was less than five years old when 11 came old and it lacking the newer security chipset killed that update. You can, in now way, assume ten years of use just because of that price and relatively mid-range CPU/GPU specs. The storage is average these days (capacity wise), and only the 32GB RAM extends its overall use. 16GB RAM is bare minimum these days.

That is my plan w/ my current Mac Book Pro...still plenty of space and running great at 8 years old...my work Mac Book Pro is over 5 years old.

All depends on how you take care of a laptop, you might not get security updates, but my Lenovo W520 with 32GB ram, 512GB SSD drive on Windows 10 has been solid since new, that is from 2011 and here it is 2025. 14 years. I see no reason to replace it at this time since it is working so solid.

Yes, I am probably more attune to computers being an engineer and as such far more aware of what can go wrong if you accept or install stuff than most. Yet still no reason a solid laptop cannot last 10 years.

Oh i completely agree with buying quality once and "be done" with it, but I have to be able to justify buying a $1200 laptop for using Microsoft Office Suite and the internet. Neither of those things really necessitate much hardware requirements.

How do I go about wiping it clean and starting from scratch? I know how to save things externally so I don't lose certain documents. I just don't want to lose the Office Suite if I don't have the right stuff to reinstall it.

I don't know how or when, but there is so much BS running in the background and it's only ever been used for college classes things and Office Suite items.
