  1. Yes, the rest of the world will advance without us. We are no longer special or essential for global progress. On a larger scale, our economy will suffer for it.

  2. Now I just need to sell a 2015 200S. ? If anyone knows someone who is interested, let me know! I picked up a 2018 Cadillac CTS Luxury 2.0T a couple of days ago. Here are my initial impressions: The suspension is not as stiff as I have heard other people say. It absorbs the bumps pretty well with no real harsh impacts but it does squirm around quite a bit on the heavily potholed Michigan roads The 2.0T is a bit unrefined but has plenty of power for the application The stop/start occasionally causes the car to shudder on the stop and almost always causes a shudder on the start. It is pretty quite though. Kind of the opposite of the stop/start on our Pacifica. On the Pacifica it is smooth but loud. The 2018 version of CUE is vastly improved over the version I drove a few years ago. It oddly enough is still slow on the Radio station changes using the steering wheel buttons, though. I've only had it for a couple of days and I still haven't explored all the features yet. I'll post more comments as I get more familiar with the car. If you guys have any questions, let me know!

  3. And right there is the reason you're not CEO. Pontiac, at the time, was not global. It offered little to nothing over a Chevy or Toyota. It was entirely GMs fault for letting it get there, but that was still the reality of the situation at the time. There totally should have been a new Bonneville, Grand Prix, Grand Am, heck even a new Vibe, Torrent, and a real honest to goodness crossover Montana... But there was no money. Buick had sales both here and in China, Pontiac did not and the sales here just weren't profitable. Trust me, I know how you feel. Olds was the most technically advanced division outside of Cadillac at the time of its demise. But if sales and profitability aren't there, gotta be a businessman and make the tough call.

  4. There is actually a bigger reason. Allow me to pull some quotes from Reuters.

  5. That ignores reality. Three out of every four Buicks sold are sold in China. It makes more sense to build all of them there and import them to the US. That's the basic premise of build it where you sell it.

  6. My understanding is that they have been building the same basic vehicle since the end of ww2 by license and this is not certified for hiway use. Now if they have violated the license agreement then FCA has a case if not it's just sour grapes. FCA is in the business of on road passenger vehicles not side by side off road toys. CJ3's are not in FCA's business plan last I've read.

  7. Last time i was in a Sonata it was buzzy and loud and vibrated through the seats

  8. Is it really a rollback though? If the standards were stupid to begin with, isn't it really a breath of fresh air? A return to basic reality and respect for basic laws of physics?

  9. This clearly illuminates my point. Astonishing.

  10. Better to crack down now that wait for massive sales for Mahindra at the expense of the new Wrangler.

  11. Somebody needs to tell @Suaviloquent that without China, Buick is as dead as Olsdmobile since 2004. While imposing a 25% tariff on Chinese goods is bad policy, China is NOT going to defend America's IP with any consistency. An open market for any particular good ensures competition actually improves product, as opposed to protectionism which maximizes mediocrity. Why would China ever change its policies to compete in a global market based of accepted rules rather than pursue the mercantilism that has pulled them from the abject poverty of 40 years ago? The only mistake GM made is to build the Envision and the Encore in or near their largest market. No one anticipated the tariff escalation tit-for-tat that has come from this president. If you wish to buy a midsize (now compact) crossover NOT made in China, buy an Equinox or a Terrain (made in CANADA), or better still a Cadillac XT5 (Spring Hill, TN).

  12. WOW, You make me have to question if you have really ever been in an Envision. They are NOT mediocre to the competition. Way better than most.

  13. It was named after the first large U.S. turboprop airliner, the Lockheed Electra. I just feel its blatantly SIMPLISTIC and OBVIOUS, which makes me cringe until my shoulders drive into my ears. NOT TO MENTION - we'll have to read dozens of quik-notes / armchair mini history lessons and knee-slapping cornball jokes about how the new Buck EV 'Ain't yer grandpop's Electra' and 'it's no longer 41 feet long- yuck yuck!' I can see it coming like an F5 tornado on the high Kansas plains and it's all so utterly EXHAUSTING. Spend a little time/effort, and come up with something else- I know it's hard, I know most of the good ones are taken, but shit- we got 'Volt' & 'Bolt' in only the last few years! If the car was akin to the Electra of yore, I'd be much better with it. But it won't be close and the slop-journalism of today will fall in the same groundhog hole of hyperbole they always do. Pretty sure that's all correct info- skimmed it and saw nothing radically amiss.

  14. Not having ever been in a Buick Electra or any real knowledge of why it was called an Electra, I honestly see nothing wrong with using that name on a Buick Sedan that has an Electric power train. Might as well get some more miles out of using the proper name on a proper Buick EV. I have to honestly say I think this is a really messed up wiki page as they say Buick had an Electra model from 1959 to 1990. Yet what they show as Electra station wagons, sedans, coupes etc. I never heard them called that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buick_Electra electra park avenue electra estate wagon ?

  15. @balthazar WOW, first down vote from you ever. So why would using the Electra be wrong on a Buick Electra EV? I truly am interested to hear your point of view on this.

  16. I am into state's rights, but California has shaped FE and emissions standards too much. It will be interesting to see what sticks here. Federal standards that are predictable and achievable are good. The 54mpg was totally virtue signalling and forcing something that was not going to happen. At the same time, this industry is global and standards for these things need to 'consider' the global arena.

  17. ..and Henry is back from the groomers...he doesn't like to show his face for the camera. Looks great w/ a short haircut. Nah, I couldn't eat Bambi...they stroll through my front and backyard, eat the bird seed in the bird feeders and the critter crunch I put out for the squirrels and chipmunks..

  18. Saw a couple unusual cars parked at the bank today...a black Audi R8 convertible, top down, and a very clean triple-beige late 70s Pontiac Phoenix 2dr w/ color keyed Rally II wheels.

  19. Except for '03-04, "Mach 1" hasn't been used since 1978, but didn't you call using that name on a future SUV a "dreadful idea"?

  23. The T&C was purchased for me to drive because the wife refused to drive a minivan. We only had that for a week or so before she took it over and it became hers. She sadly is still stuck on the minivan stigma so she seriously considered an SUV instead this time around. We were looking at GMC Acadias and Chevy Traverses but at the end of the day, we just got way more for our money with the Pacifica. And she does love the convenience of the minivan. All that being said, I would say there is a 99% chance that when we replace it in a few years the kids will be old enough she will switch to an SUV. Our shot at the hybrid has come and gone. The S package is nice! It looks pretty good on all colors I have seen with it too. I saw a dark blue S-package yesterday and it probably looked better than our red one. I also saw an orange S-package and even that looked good! I personally think the Pacifica looks great in pretty much any color or trim save for maybe the base no chrome models. Weirdly enough I am very drawn to that Cordovan brown color. If we had not found this S-package, that is probably what we would have bought.

  27. @regfootball @riviera74 I like both of your posts, I think that now is the perfect time for the Auto Industry along with California to come together and propose a new standard that they agree on protecting state rights and leading the fed gov to simplify with a new standard that California and the Auto industry can live with. I truly believe that what is best for both clean air, people and business is a single standard to build to that can be done world wide. China and the EU have learned the hard way due to acid rain and the environmental damage caused by our love of ICE auto's. Time to retire the 100+ year auto and move into the next phase of Auto engineering that will bring new and innovative products. We all know it will take probably 50 years to remove ICE auto's from the roads but that should not stop us from moving forward. Having a ton of relatives in the greater LA area, I know only too well what it was like visiting them every summer and just shaking my head at the smog, and they wondered why my parents moved in the mid 60's to Washington state getting away from the concrete jungle of LA. Time for a better way to move around. Hybrids, EV's, and high speed electric trains, tubes, etc. We have got to do things better, smarter and move society forward.

  28. The Obama standards are pie-in-the-sky for so many reasons. You cannot FORCE people to buy something they DO.NOT.WANT. When has it ever worked? It never has. Something's got to give and it is past due for government to LISTEN and TUNE INTO the real world. California needs to be dealt with. It is that simple. They are so backward from the mainstream and they are out of touch with reality. CLEARLY. On so many issues extending far beyond just this important, vast thing. Brown and Becerra's comments quoted in the article speak volumes about their insolence and only serve to reinforce my stance... they need to STFU and SIT DOWN. Bunch of spoiled babies.

  29. GM is getting what it deserves. Build it here, you morons. The only thing "idiotic" is the idea that a Buick should be built anywhere else but the USA. Or at least North America... at the VERY LEAST. Yes, the Buick Envision is a completely invisible product with no design flair, nothing at all special to distinguish it as a Buick... it is a cheap Chinese knock-off of a "Buick" and I said that from the moment I saw it. Also I GUARANTEE you that between its forgettable design and execution, PLUS the fact it is widely known to be an "All-American" Buick made in CHINA are YUGE reasons why it is not selling well. Duh.
