Volvo's brand identity in the US is safety? Coming at a time when folk like Ralph Nader are making headlines? Would that be an accurate statement? I would think so. Volvo was a pioneer in safety. Volvo made a huge name for itself because of safety. Yes, their cars were dull also at a time when Detroit was selling style at a time when folk like Nader was voicing a loud...voice. At a time when the automobile was just starting to be seen as an evil entity...at a time when world politics was at fever pitch. This is when VW also started to become popular with a subset of Americans opposing world stage politics... Is THAT a fair assessment? Anyway... I would never buy a Volvo...but there are a couple of models in their history that I think are cool that do an excellent job of being...Swedish.2 points

NAH - mercedes can't decide what their mission / definition is. They're arguably the most lost : super high end lux vehicles that sell in a trickle, mass mainstream production of FWD shitboxes, and unbearably utilitarian cargo boxes / a rebadged pickup truck, none of which are separated by badging, or dealerships or advertising. Yeah- they make money, but so did the Pet Rock.2 points

OMG- this has been a constant trumpet solo with you- "just build a really high priced version, there are people with money that'll buy it!" When it's an hi-zoot package on a german car, it's all fuzzy baby peaches & sunshine. When a similar hi-zoot package is presented for a Cadillac, it's always 'sales sales sales', (meanwhile no body buys the german hi-zoot pack).2 points

It will be... Not the base C8....the top of the line C8... The Aventador is an old car now...besides...Lambos are not track cars...especially that lineage of Lambo which is Countach, El Diablo, Murcielago and now Aventador... But yeah...keep drinking that Kool-Aid buddy!1 point

What obsession are you talking about? What is it you are talking about when you say is this going to continue? Then you bring in Trudeau from a whole different country and you accuse people from another country and your own countrymen of the "tolerant left", if that was an insult and a bad thing...yet YOU are the one to insult, accuse of ruining the country for not being united? Like WTF dude??!!! Take a look in the mirror, man...intolerance is what is killing your country...and see who truly is the one NOT to want to get along...1 point

Polynesian culture I believe, right? Not for me either. But I do find it interesting. But Ill be honest and tell you that Im shallow! If ugly human beings have tattoos, male or female, I HATE them. If attractive humans have tattoos, or if the tattoos fit their physique and personality...I find that to be HOT! Quite contradictory, right? But yeah! Forgetting that this dude IS Polynesian, I think he is hot and badass for his tattoos. If George Clooney was a criminal and had this type of tattoo, Id think he would be hot hot hot for having this tattoo. It works for me! Here...a regular dude with a similar motif. I would NEVER cheat on my wife...but Ill tell you one thing though, if I was in my 20s or 30s...man-o-man I would soooooo try to be her one night stand and hers And hers... She has a certain look that she wants to portray and her hair colour and colour and style of tats, just works for her...and I have great lust... But this...NO PHOQUING WAY. Like hit the gym dude, like shave your face, do something...because...it aint working. And that tattoo.. DUDE???!!! WTF???!!!1 point

I just love how you expect a Vette to basically stay the same price while literally everything else has gone up. There were Mercedes models that were “cheap” back then that aren’t now. Where’s their criticism? Oh that’s right. For the record, the Vette starts at $55,900 which still makes a value in the sports car world. Stop exaggerating with this $60K nonsense. It should be considered shameful that the Vette shames much more expensive sport cars from Germany in terms of performance but we will just ignore that so that you can criticize something else about GM.1 point

they BOTH suck and they BOTH raise taxes. All the time. Look at this mental defective I've got to live under : https://nypost.com/2019/02/09/new-jersey-wants-to-tax-the-rain/ 'Revenue streams' - that's the Prime Directive of Gov't in recent times. Look at the proposal to raise EV registrations to $1000 in one state. "How do we make up the lost revenue??" the lawmakers whine. YOU DON'T GET TO! ; there's zero guarantee you're going to get X-amount of dollars; there's no constitutional amendment that guarantees a fiscal influx. YOU'RE OUT OF FUCKING LUCK- MAKE IT WORK! Conditions fluctuate all the time and strong-arming your way to trillions of dollars because you can is legalized racketeering. And by the by- BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET! Clinton lucked out because the economy was very good, internationally it was quiet, and he kept out of trouble chasing cheeseburgers & tail. He sucked, Bush sucked, Obama sucked, Trump sucks. I've listened to my mother rant about Trump, but when I asked her seriously who the last president she could say she really liked, she stopped, thought a long moment, and said 'Kennedy'. That's a lo-oooong assed dry spell.1 point

So basically you’re saying only Mercedes can be all things to all people because that’s pretty much what you’re saying here and perfectly illustrates the fallacy in debating with a one brand fan. No matter what, you give excuses to Mercedes that are not allowed for others.1 point

Corvettes were sold before there even was Lambos for sale...two decades before, almost... Corvettes, the high end Corvettes, were always priced as high as Cadillacs... Cadillacs, were always the highest priced vehicles on the road...of the mass produced variety...and not hand made...like Rolls Royces...and not limited produced...like I said...mass produced...up until the early 1970s... Yeah...I know...you said exotics. But that is what Rolls and Ferraris and Lambos are... A Corvette was never an exotic....its DOMESTIC... It dont matter, this was at a time when Ferraris sold 50 cars a year...or so... Corvettes were always about being mass produced. Corvettes sold by the thousands... Corvettes were never about exclusivity. THAT is what makes an exotic car, an exotic car. And it being a foreign car...you know...not American Domestic Market... But...Corvettes were just about as expensive as expensive could be for a DOMESTIC product... Corvettes were American exotics as like if a European or Middle Eastern buyer wanted to buy a Corvette, he would most definitely pay like he was buying a Ferrari to have his Corvette in his European or Middle Eastern country back in the day... Like I said...learn your automotive history and stop trying to weasel your nonsense with me...1 point

“Should be, could be”. Only you are so concerned about it. Clearly GM isn’t and it hasn’t been a problem. You’d just find a way to slam a $100K Cadillac sportscar anyway.1 point

Again...who says that Cadillac cannot be both? Mercedes is doing that exactly... Problem for Cadillac is that when they should have had an Evoq in their line-up, they fudged it up big time with the ELR. They then could have had the Cien in their line-up eventually had they NOT fudged up the ELR. They could had done the Ciel at the same time as the ELR, and if they'd done the Ciel right, then the El Miraj would have been with us too. But chances are they'd flub the Ciel as well... But now...that ship has sailed. The BMW wannabe aspirations have long since passed with folk buying cars. As of NOW...people want old skool Cadillacs. Proof? The Escalade just keeps on steam rolling the competition.... But...if Cadillac embraces their past and they do old skool the right way...then who says Cadillac cant do sports cars? Listen...you do have an honest opinion about why Cadillac flubs it, but you also go overboard with it... Tone it done...stop being so hypocritical...1 point
-
Nope. That is NOT what Cadillac is all about. I guess Cadillac could have a super sport car above the Corvette... but before they do that... they need this Where did you ever get this zany idea that Corvettes are attainable? Top of the line Vettes were ALWAYS expensive... Top of the line Vettes were ALWAYS about being the fastest machines they could be... Top of the line Vettes have always been about state of the art engineering... Stop with this BS you keep on ragging about Corvette, man! You KNOW its not true what you say...so why you say it?1 point

WRONG, You really need to crack a history book to learn how much taxes the Republicans have raised on Americans. Taxes and approval of borrowing against pensions / SSA have been a two way street with both parties guilty of destroying the retirement plan of America. Reagan actually did some of the worst damage against the SSA of all presidents. Clinton actually paid down more debt than any president. History page here if your interested in learning: https://www.ssa.gov/history/index.html PDF file for you to read the details of this history. SSA-History.pdf Throwing stones in a glass house when blame is equal on both sides of the coin and modus operandi you want to go over? How about the abuse and loss of rights to the LGBTQA. This is the Modus Operandi of the Republican party! Our country has shown it's best in the last 40 years when both parties reached across the isle and worked on a balanced budget, paying down debt and living within the means of existing taxation. That was the Clinton Administration. Live within a budget, open competition for all and job growth.1 point

Everyone is building more crossovers because that’s what people are buying. Also, if building a mid-engine Vette is “GM playing it safe”, then I guess that’s a good thing. I also see that they are not “playing it safe” here. They clearly have plans for Cadillac performance models that go beyond this new V series designation. That’s just more speculation without proof from you.1 point

Not a chance. You think it's funny that he's raised taxes on most Americans? Just because it comes out of a different pocket doesn't mean it isn't still a tax. He's at his highest approval rating in his term and still has yet to break 50%.1 point

I have looked at the video and studied these two cars. These are my thoughts only... GM clearly has not fixed Cadillac. There is a huge problem. I thought about the changes in the lineup. All they did was drop XTS and replace it with XT6 crossover because this is what sells. XT6 just like XTS appeals to the same segment of buyers. They replaced CTS and ATS. They said that was not happening. They did. They go by different names( CT4 and CT5). They have three sedans instead of four. XTS was too close to CT6 and put the squeeze on CTS. At least XTS had a bigger trunk unlike the small trunk on CT6. They still have not fixed the fundamental problems of the CTS and ATS. I checked out the dimensions on the CT4. It is as big as a downsized 1986 Buick Riviera. They at least got the c pillar right on CT4. They still clearly have not let this Euro aspiration thing go. They need to stop being ashamed who they they are, and use the heritage and history to rebuild Cadillac. GM has the strong heritage and does not use it to rebuild the entire company. It is like John Mc Elroy from Autoline said: GM is shrinking its foot print globally for the next down turn. They want to act like a smaller company, but they do not realize they are still a large company. They are smaller globally: No presence in Europe, and have left countries they were not selling. That is a good move, but you have got to invest in your brands. GM is scared to take chances and it shows. They cannot depend on China. They need a: Ed Welburn, a Harley Earl, or a Bill Mitchell, a Wayne Cherry, or Chuck Jordan to lead design. Looking Back on GM’s Six Past Design Chiefs https://www.automobilemag.com/news/looking-back-gms-six-design-chiefs/ The Cadillac crest needs revision. I at first thought with the guy that was working for Cadillac whose first name starts with a U who left recently was changing it, that maybe it was a good idea. I do not think so now. It does not say luxury or stand out any longer. It is no different than a Chevrolet emblem. You could put Chevrolet emblems on these two cars and they could pass for Chevrolets. That Cadillac emblem/ crest is missing something. Even the one from the 1950's said "luxury" They need to bring the wreath back or the V or make them emblem more detailed. Right now it does not say luxury. It says "cheap or mass market" It is sad when a company favors Chevrolet for everything and it shows. Too many brands have suffered because of Chevrolet. People thought oh, kill brands and it will solve the problem. It has not and GM still is doing the same thing and making the same mistakes. This is getting old. They did not give Oldsmobile this much time to turn around. That was unfair. GM should engineer top down and not bottom up. What is good enough for Chevrolet is not good enough for the rest of GM. They should invest and change how they think. The people who post here know what Cadillac is. GM does not know. Cadillac is majestic. It is stately. It is luxury. It stands apart. It has features you should not find on Chevrolet. It has styling to stay you have arrived. CT6 is a good start, but it is not complete. That c pillar on that car does not say Cadillac. It says Toyota, Audi or other six window design c- pillar cars. You look at CT5, you do not immediately think Cadillac. You think Saturn or Chevrolet. It should not be that way. Cadillac needs to lay off all that black trim. Again.. it says cheap. They have taken the Escala concept styling and put it on the CT4( small) the CT5( medium) and the CT6( large). That philosophy does not work. That is what BMW does. BMW is in trouble right now too. If Pontiac was here and they said these two cars were Pontiac, no one would have an issue because that is what they would expect from Pontiac. If they said they were Holden, no one would have an issue. When you look at Cadillac, you should want to own it or drive it. It should be nice to look at. The only vehicle that has stayed true to Cadillac's mission is Escalade. They need to look at that vehicle and build on that. They need to learn who they are again. They need to start using real names. The letter and number thing is not working. Just stop. I am just expressing how I feel. I do not work at GM, but it is clear to the outside what needs to happen to fix Cadillac. I want GM and Cadillac to be great again. What will it take? What must happen?1 point

Me thinks that GM thinks Chevrolet is the performance brand at GM. I don't expect much from these higher performance V cars, because GM plays everything really safe and how many high performance Cadillacs would they sell? I think they just want to build more crossovers like Trailblazer and Encore GX instead because that is what people buy.-1 points

First off the Corvette in the 60s was a $4,000 car which is like a $32k car now, in the 70s Corvettes were around $6,000 which is about $30k in today's money. A 1974 Cadillac Eldorado was double the price of a 1974 Corvette. Because the Corvette was an attainable car. In the late 80s a Corvette was about $30k, A Cadillac Seville was $28k a Mercedes SL was $61k, and a Ferrari Testarossa was $134k. The Corvette was always about a lot of performance per dollar, that is what the fans love. Even in the late 90s a Corvette was about $39k, and Cadillac Seville was $42k. Today's Seville equivalent is probably like a CTS, which is why I think Corvette should be in that $50-80k range. And that is the mission, a sports car that is within reach, not $100,000+ car like an Audi R8 that they sell 200 of a year. Mercedes has one brand. If GM was to kill Cadillac and sell $100k Chevy luxury sedans and $200k Chevy super cars, I don't care. But the whole reason of a Chevy-Buick/GMC-Cadillac 3 tier set up is to have 3 tiers. If Chevy's cost more than Cadillacs you don't need 3 tiers, just sell everything out of 1 dealership channel. I would say the same thing about VW or Toyota, a $80-100k VW or Toyota sports car would make zero sense because they have Audi and Lexus for that.-1 points
